throughout my short lifespan of riding from bandit to a CBR400-FOUR to a ST to a vfr800 then back to ST, i never know that my mechanic got sell hp holder wan leh??

 

that uncle also a bit funny wan lah.... first time i saw him at my mechanic's shop, he rode his super4, stopped outside the shop, came down, start "patrolling" his shop, looked at his (gopa's) ST, ask where to get this, where to get that, then say he gettin a white ST, then went back to his bike and zoom off .... and all this while i thought gopa and this uncle know each other wan.... chey...

 

2nd time, after a week or so, gopa was changing the front tire of a customer's GS, so the three of us was talking.... same thing, in came this same uncle, rode his brand new ST, again park outside the shop, came down, walk to us and stand just beside us, not uttering a word. so i was guessing he want to do servicing or something lor, came by and see us talking, so wait for his chance to talk... but barely two to three minutes, he walk off, start his bike and zoom off again. duh?!

 

just my point of view lah.... coz i nothing to do, so observe other people's behaviour lor... keke.

 

okie next topic....

 

like all, my RPM is 3000 standard at 100km/h.

 

in case u need gopa's address, er... actually i cant remember. but hope i can guide you.... go AMK ave 5, look for industrial park 2, then hunt for autopoint (it's behind seagate building), then go to 5th floor, unit no. 11.... most of the time outside got park his beloved pearl white ST, plate no.... like his name, "500".

there r plenty of reasons for higher fuel consumption, ur's only part of the factor caused it.

As Simon had said there are many reason behind for High Fuel consumption,

most common reason will be drag in the first few gears.

As for me seldom rev over 3k btw each gear change.

The higher the rev the higher the fuel consumption.

it maybe some leaking air from the clamps between engine & carbs... or it could be inappropriate valve setting or it.........etc...

 

check & set correct valve clearance will need experienced mechanic to set it to perfect.

 

do u got any plm when cool starting..?

Hi Simon...

 

the bike got no plm with cool start... and also got Ken to tune up the carburator...

 

the consumption seen to improve abit compare to previously... hit reserve at ard 370km...

so follow on amen23's advice not to rev over rpm 3k for picking up speed, i dont see there's any need in Sgp roads.

i seldom go above 3k for acceleration... but on expressway i travel at 90-100km

and my 100km will be slight above 3k...

 

and also hopefully tomorrow i'm able to meet up with you... got some suggestions on how to get other ST riders aware on this forum in sbf...

good suggestion, but i'm more interested in growing a group of ST1100 bikers with more outings than to roaming in Sgp roads.

My 2 cents worth on consumption

Factors

- Tyre not inflated enuf

- Idling speed too high - my is at 650-700 RPM

- Over reving

- High Speed riding - best is abt 100km/hr

- Carb dirty or leaking thru needle leaking or wear and tear

- Low Speed high gear riding.....e.g. 5th gear at 40km/hr but then engine can die

- Dirty engine oil (better change or else the heart die)

- start stop often enuf......e.g. Singapore roads.

- Long warm up speed.

- Excessive heat build up which causes poor performance.....

- Spark plugs dirty and inefficient..

So i guess might need to check those which cost less first before moviing to do major opening up of engine block......however, the most times, it is the tyre pressure and the combination of the above....
