There are 2 screws under the cushion of the seat. You just have to unscrew and it will open. Could be the coolant leaking since its under the seat.

That's your cdi gum leaking. No big issues. Just use plastic bag and wrap it.

The ytz5s is the so called the sleeping battery and its only 3.5Ah capacity s i remember some pple use it in a suzuki raider...and im using the ytz7s in a suzuki raider....and positive is on the right

you should use ytx7A-BS which have a capacity of 6Ah which is stock for ur bike....

http://chongaik.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=811_946&product_id=2281

surprisingly chong aik selling $60....also the positive will be on the left which you may fit to ur terminals correctly...remember put the positive or

+ side on first before the negative ....if not you'll have sparks will fly...cheers..

you may also use YTX9-BS which is the same exact size as above but taller by 14mm but stronger at 8Ah....not

too sure if will fit in ur rvf battery compartment but this is used in a lot of bikes like cb400 ..cheers

http://chongaik.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=811_946&product_id=2283

also same price.....at $60....

Can anyone tell for sure what version my RVF is?

According to the so called date of manufacture on the cert, its 1999?

I saw a website that seems to indicate my chassis and engine number is the last version which is the R-II?

Am i correct to assume im riding an RVF400R-II?

it is my understanding that with the legendary 2A sportsbikes of yesteryear, the stated 'date of manufacture' is not accurate.

taken from wikipedia:

"The Honda RVF400R (NC35) is a motorcycle introduced by Honda Motor Company in 1994, powered by a V4 16 valve double overhead geardriven cam 400 cc engine and known for its handling capabilities. There were two models, the R and the T, which differed only in their paint schemes. The RVF (as it was marketed by Honda in Japan) finished production in 1996, though unsold RVFs remained available to purchase from Japanese Honda dealers through to 2001.

....the RVF400R was only officially sold new in Japan."

as i understand it, those 2A sportsbikes sold in singapore are all grey imports from japan. some might even be secondhand imports registered as new. apparently, the 'date of manufacture' only reflects the year it was imported into singapore. after all, if honda stopped manufacturing rvf400 in 1996, how can there be an rvf400 manufactured in 1999?

i have no deeper knowledge of the rvf400 with regards to its actual model designation.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Thanks a lot for the explanation Mechwira. Clears a lot of the confusion up for me.

I think you are correct. My bike was probably manufactured much earlier than 1999.

I referenced the chassis and engine serial no. against some U.S websites that attempt to shed light on the matter but i still cant tell for sure what the websites are trying to denote.

In fact, i dont even know for sure how many versions of the NC35 were manufactured by the Japanese.

These people are brilliant engineers but they simply dont like to sell their things or provide even simple technical support for them outside of japan.

EDIT:

Ok i guess i found something useful after all.

Im pretty much confirmed i got the last version which is the RVF400-T.

Wow such a long time since i came back to my thread... sad to see how much SBF has changed over the years... just like a ghost town. I miss the days when this thread was flooded with replies, daily meet ups etc. Memories have gone with the wind, just like many legendary NC35's in the scrap yard :(
