Tell u honestly, Cland is a favourite stock among punters to short when ever spore govt announce any property cooling measures. Long-term downtrend for this stock is still intact, but valuation wise, its indeed undervalued. But valuation doesn't matter if markets refuse to buy it.

If you are talking about very developed foreign market such as US, Japan, Hongkong, then yes i would agree. But not in Spore 'kelong' market if you get what i mean.

Capitaland was one stock that during it's 2010 peak at around $4.20, lots of houses were calling for BUY, but the problem was spore govt intervention in the property market that was hampering the property counters. Jan 2011 was a confirmation for capitaland long term downtrend and those that are still holding their short position on capitaland are laughing their way to the banks. For me i never miss the chance of shorting capitaland whenever they get a strong rebound or govt cooling measures in the property market. Allgreen shareholders were lucky to get a buy out.

Long term wise, its still under its 200 day moving average with no sign of rebound. Short term wise, it was hammered below its 30 day moving average which suggest further downside risk.

The important part now is the right timing to go into capitaland in the first place, its still in a firm downtrend channel and only by breaking this channel with volume will end i dare to long this counter.

Lots of people don't like investors like me that short the market, but this is a willing-buyer willing-seller market and i don't see a problem with making money in a bull and bear market.

thats why I'm suitable only to be long term investor.

what do u guys tink of starhub?

Starhub is a fine example of a longterm uptrending stock. A defensive counter with good dividend yields. I would add it to my portfoilio if i could get it at the $2.60-$2.70 level.

At current price of $2.80, it represents a yield of around 7.2% PA, far better than any fixed deposits.

my exact same sentiments.

but for it to

and whethr they can maintain the 7%, remains to be seen

$2.70 or less need them to lose another TV license like the EPL the other time. lol...

For the yield, normally management of companies would not want to increase the dividend payout if it's unsustainable for the near future. In a case of a good year, a special dividend would be declared instead of increasing the dividend portion.

Starhub has been gradually increasing their dividend payout since 2005 and even during the Lehman brothers crisis. This might be a testament to their resilience?

But don't take my word for it, as with all stocks, risk will always be there.

I beg to differ on starhub, I look at their bal sheets, I just can't fathom how they actually continue paying dividends. Rather try M1. Can take a look at Kep T&T too if the illiquid stock tickles your fancy..

Defensive and high yield, I opt for QAF, Dairy farms or perhaps cerebos, with the last one's price alittle on the high side already.

May i ask which part of the balance sheet are u referring to?

Last i seen was 0.8x net debt / EBITDA.

I'm sorry. I meant books not balance sheets. Open for discussions my simplistic views might be wrong. Perhaps you can help me understand how feasible is it for a company whose cost of dividends is higher than net profit, continue to maintain their dividends...

By 2 Aug, I have already liquidated all my stocks across various markets.

Upcoming turmoils in the markets.

One man's poison, is another man's fruit.

Hence, it is always better to be able to play both sides of the markets.
