Thanks for the feedback. Been trawling through the forum and i still cannot determine what pressure to pump the tyres to. I'm around 60kg and seldom pillion.

Any recommendation on the tyre pressure?

Check the side wall of your tyre. Got alot of small small words. Just try to find some thing like 50psi for example. The figure stated on your tyre is the max tyre pressure.

Just as a reference my tyre says 290kg at 42psi.

So I pump around 40 psi.

Don't know if thats the correct way. But just sharing the way I do it.

Er bro, 40psi seem like too much le. I normally pump around 32psi.

i was thinking will it bust after prolong riding at that high PSI.

i remember reading in the net that the best is at 70% of the maximum.

Does the weight which is on the tyre also affects the psi?

Mine says 290kg max load at 42psi. But I doubt in S4 that one tyre is holding that amount of weight. Unless the rider and the pillion are heavy ppl.

I try pumping 30-35 i feel like soft. Thats why i tried pumping 36psi.

Maybe depends on the tyre?

For your weight...

Front 230-240

Back - 260-270

...give and take with pillion about another 04-50kg.

The idea is to have enough "flat" for traction and soft enough for comfort.

If too hard...good roll by tyre center line gonna get "rippled"..front especially. If back too hard..too harsh with thumping discomfort.

Hi Pek,

Er.. Tire pressure is correct.

Steering cone bearing change recently. (unless being cheated)

So i guess i left with either tire uneven wear or wheel axle bearing le.

Any idea or methods to check axle bearing? Is it expensive to change it? If not i will change it away to see if it helps.

Normally when we change the fork seal, will the fork oil be replaced? Or we actually need to change it seperately?

What does a fork brace help in the handling of the bike?

i see many fellow VerS rider goes visit you for some special packages. Could you let me know what are they? Cos i am interested to relive my VerS too.

Sorry for so many questions as i dont know who to look for for advises.

Regards.

Oh...NEVER feel sorry for ever asking question..its how we learn and get knowledgeable and able to pass it on :)

The fork brace is good only for high speed handling to prevent "flexing" (side way movement) and not balancing the fork as most ppl think. Not really a neccessity but ok to have if you ride hard and fast on corners and uneven flats with harsh engine braking. Other than that..its a piece of a 'decor' item that cost $s.

The reason that one would change fork seal is that it's damage..meaning, fork oil sipping up as the stanchion tube (upper fork section) comes up after a damping. Usually the fork dust and sediment cover goes with it. Fine sand and sediment seating around the fork dust cover are usually the culprits (that's why the later version of S4 has a fork dust cover guard).

When you change the seal..its a good practice to have the fork "service" as in draining out old used fork oil with metal filings..etc and the forsk oil seal and fork dust cover replaced..all in cost $90 including labour.

The easist way to check wheel axle bearing is to have your front wheel lifted, spinned the wheel and feel the fork lower section for that metal to metal "grinding" sensation...its pretty mild one. The other is grab the two lower fork section and feel for looseness at the axle point. Rocking the wheel while you grab the tyre also can tell..should have no movem, ent, if it does..bearing gone liao. Cost replace is around $12 per piece I think. Check with MrIce...he did his today at Ah Fook.

Special package?..not really lah. Just that good eo at cheap price specially formulated to accomodate our aged bike very well where off the shelf best oil can't. You get double or triple your oil change interval (divide the amount you spend by 3 parts and it comes to less then $35 per interval change only!), yet have all the protection, power in performance, great wear and tear maintenance level and the smoothness ride you can get out of the best.:sian:

anyone have idea how much idiling jet for superfour spec1 cost ?

if change the jet need to retune carb ?

Heh bro...if its a direct replacement, no need to tune carbs lah. Why not call Chiong Aik or FJT for pricing. They are advertiser here I think.

If too expensive..let me know as I have a spare carbs and that part should still be ok.

Hi Pek,

First of all thanks for the patient and detail explanation. But here i go again to bombard you.

1) Guess i dont need the fork brace as i dont really speed around.

2) Think my usual bike shop not really doing a good job as i had let them change my oil seal and steering bearing. Yet i still find my front fork soft and now i am doubful on the steering bearing workmanship.

3) So deep to check the bearing huh? Around $12 for the wheel axle bearing and i need to change 3pcs. >$40, better to get them change when doing my tire change to play safe.

4) So is to let you do engine oil change lor? Each change out is $35 right? Including oil filter or i must bring my own to you? You own a shop or doing freelance? Location?

5) Ah Fook is the best price to do our ride?

6) You know where to get good pricing for Motul engine oil and 2T?

Thank you!

Ya, the rider weight does play a part to the amount of air to pump.

dont really know the calculation though.

Maybe Mr Pek can help on this......

2) Think my usual bike shop not really doing a good job as i had let them change my oil seal and steering bearing. Yet i still find my front fork soft and now i am doubful on the steering bearing workmanship.

To test steering cone bearing status..move your bike forward and brake reasonably hard or rock it back and fore. If you hear a 'knocking' sound, its loosely fixed..need to tighten the 'castle' like ring nut below the big size 31 nut right on top of it.

3) So deep to check the bearing huh? Around $12 for the wheel axle bearing and i need to change 3pcs. >$40, better to get them change when doing my tire change to play safe.

If you are riding non Vtec..recommend to use Dunlopw Arrow Max GT501...cheap and good and lasting. 2 piece not three..may be have the dust seal for the bearing changed too. Why not do it all at Ah Fook.

4) So is to let you do engine oil change lor? Each change out is $35 right? Including oil filter or i must bring my own to you? You own a shop or doing freelance? Location?

Nah...its not calculated that way. All requirement provided, including free labour. Not freelance, its not a career and I don't own a shop. Learn from me and DIY in future if you can.

Just doing it for fun and at my own time by appointment to share with you guys what's good for your bike. But of course, you guys got to pay for the material and goods lah. Naywya..by appointment only and as and when I'm free. If you are interested, just pm anytime.

5) Ah Fook is the best price to do our ride?

Try to be competitive should be it but rest assure of getting the work done right and with corrective service...at least that's what I told him to do for u guys. Anyone can go to him if they feel kenna chop_chop else where

6) You know where to get good pricing for Motul engine oil and 2T?

Everywhere oso got what but why you need 2T for a 4stroke bike like S4?

No calculation invovle lah...just note that various load on the bike requires different pressure setting for the tyre use. Type of tyres like soft compound or hard oso has difference. The best is to pump the pressure that when you ride, its not harsh or feel of discomfort in handling (like front wheel steering too heavy or the back giving hard thumps on every small road ripple).

So in short, just pump what you feel comfortable with for ride and handling. As a guide from my personal experience and a IMHO thingy, for a 60kg rider plus pillion of about 40-50kg, front 240 and back 260-270 should be good enough for both comfort and handling.

Also take note that if you are going up for continuos long ride trip, anything above 10km and especially hot weather..the air expand inside the tyres when its hot thus it gets 'harder'.

Did try this test before, did heard a knocking sound but more like from the front fork then the steering area.

Er, rear tires dont have any bearing need to be change too? Will call up Ah Fook to check on pricing for changing the tires, bearing and the dust seal. Hope wont burn my pocket too deep.

Just doing it for fun and at my own time by appointment to share with you guys what's good for your bike. But of course, you guys got to pay for the material and goods lah. Naywya..by appointment only and as and when I'm free. If you are interested, just pm anytime.

Will PM you when i am due to change engine oil. But my ride is used only in weekend for joy ride or coffee session only. Hence will take some time before visiting you..... :)

Everywhere oso got what but why you need 2T for a 4stroke bike like S4?

Helping my friend to source for them as he is crazy about motul products, trying my luck seeing if you got good lobang to intro getting them cheaper.

Lastly, thanks again to share your powerful knowledge.
