like to check with all S4 riders, do u all have problem with the handling? i find my ver s hard to control the handle especially when going slow. like when u approach traffic light n u need to sway through the crowd, many times i find it stressful to do it. i been riding bike for more than 8 years n have never encountered problem like that. i went to planet, ah chong n a shop in JB, all said is my tire n box problem. i changed my tire already, i serviced my suspensions n even changed my wheel bearing, nothing helped. i also tried removing the box as they all said it's common for some bikes to have handling problem when u install box but nothing really eliminate the problem totally. i m frustrated everyday when i ride the bike n it's like "married to the wrong woman feeling".

pls help...

Hi ghost,

Is your cone bearing still good?

Is the chassis part that holds the cone bearing bent? (cause by a previous accident?)

Are your tires in proper inflation?

Do you have problems with brake binding?

The issue with handling could also be that you are not used to the seating posture of the bike?

Could also be the mass (or also weight distribution) of the bike you are not used to?

Cos this depends, your 8 years of experience is on what bike(s)?

just my $0.02

where is cone bearing? how do i check for the chassis? i just took over bike for less than a year, no accident under my ownership but not sure abt previous.

tires r newly changed n properly inflated

not sure what is brake binding...

i owned Yahama TZR, Kawasaki KIPS, Suzuki GSX-K, Piaggo Vespa and Yamaha RX-Z before. had RX-Z for more than 5 years but never face such a problem. not only me feels the weird handling, even my friend of more riding experience share my thoughts too.

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share my experience earlier while I was at work. The guard contacted me to inform me that my bike had been knocked off the stand and was lying on the side. So I rushed down, picked it up off the ground and straightened it back into a motorcycle lot. Put in my key and tried cranking it to start but as suspected, the engine wouldn't turn. So bo pian, pushed it up from the basement carpark to park it in front of my office for later inspection.

Later, figuring it must be fuel could be excess fuel, I turn the throttle to the max and cranked the bike. Keep holding the throttle at the max position while cranking the pressing the starter button until you hear the engine turning and the bike coming to life. Rev the engine a little bit more, and monitor idling able to return to normal. Success! A towing fee of $40 and a trip to the repair shop saved!

Cheers,

HiLMi

The cone bearings are located on the points where the handle bar meets the chassis. At the points where your handle bar swings/turns left and right... its on the inside, so you cannot see... can ask motodiam check? If the moto ever back head on, the chassis part which hold the handle bar can bend inwards. you can see if got rust at that areas.

Brake binding is when the brake calipers expand (to brake) but does not retract back to its original position. So you always have this "heavy" feeling when you are riding...

Also, handle bar itself also can have a difference on the "feel" of handling. maybe not original?

Agree with the brake dust issue. You may also want to scrub your brake rotors with scotchbrite and some soapy water when washing your bike.

Since you said its new, may be the pads not yet break in.

Hi all,

Just wanna update,

Cone bearing fixed, front tire changed and bike handles better now.

Thanks all for the help.

Front brakes still whining when braking sigh..

I now feel like the front wheels a lil 'loose' but checked with mechanic and was informed that bearing is still good. Any one experienced this before?

Another thing I discovered is that when I engage a gear and accelerate, there seems to be a delayed response from the bike and it will result in a jerking motion before bike accelerate normally. Any thoughts? Clutch plates are new (less then a month old)

Sorry for the many queries. First Super 4 ever. And I must say I understand why it's a popular choice.

I'm riding a 1994 project big one btw .

Thanks hor peeps!!

It does sound like cone bearing might have seize up due to pro longed usage. I had the same issue. Changed them and now better. Was charged around $120 all together parts and labour.

And the box thing is true to me. I removed my rack and box now, handling is much much better.

Just my 0.02 cents bro.

Anyways...

Won't be needing the GIVI rack anymore so selling it at $80 (NEG)

Used it on my PROJECT BIG ONE.

TEXT ME AT 81011431 if anyone keen or needs one.

Anyone knows where to get the rear handle grab below the seat for the PB1 model?

Thanks!!

tks bros. i managed to get another mechanic in JB to take a look at my bike n true enough that my cone bearing is not in good condition, therefore decided to replace them. it costs me RM220 to replace the cone bearing and another RM350 to replace my chain n spocket. when i saw my cone bearing, inside was so rusty. i already suspected my cone bearing to be culprit when problem first surface but when i seek so many mechanics' advice, all said is tire n box... anyway it's good that problem now solved. :D

since i took my ver s, already spent more than $800 to try fix this handling problem. i have not even do up anything cosmetic for my bike or even anything much to improve my bike performance. when i saw those nice cubs in JB, feel like getting 1 too... :)

PB1s are bulletproof bikes - congrats on your decision to buy one!

As for your clutch issue... maybe you can try change clutch cables? and adjust them properly...

RM350 for chain and sprocket is cheap! Which motodiam? I've just spent $290 for DID x-ring + original sprocket (but 44T sizing) at Tachyon Motor...

Btw, getting kupkia also ok, what... can be used in case your S4 sit inside workshop...

Hi bro,

I just left the choke alone and throttled only. No damages cos have panniers and crash bars thankfully, but it's still ridiculous to have someone knocked your bike over and just left it on the ground. Nvm, I believe in Karma.

Hello all,

I bought an FN80xx s4 last year, supposed VerS, but even the mechanics are confused. Anyway, is it possible to change the swing arm so that it could fit bigger (wider) tyres? any recommendations on who can do the mods?

Also thinking of changing from Nissin to Brembo brakes. Understand I would need to change the forks as well? Kindly share opinions; recommend shops.

I commute 2nd link daily, so JB shops are fine too to recommend.

Also looking for many parts 2nd hand:

-side covers

-Air filter box

-Pet-cocks

-Rectifiers

etc...

Bro tomramli,

I've asked this question to my mechanic before a few years back...

basically the PB1/VerR/VerS can fit maximum tyre size of 150... (stock is 140)

and cannot change swingarm... same as the front - also cannot change.

Also, as far as I know, the difference is, PB1 comes with mainstand (only S4 version to have so as standard, until the arrival of Spec3 - even then only the bracket is available, stand sold separately), VerS comes with Brembo calipers as standard.

2nd hand part can be found at scrapyards, I heard of one name Ah Ahn, if I'm not wrong (I've never been there, though... gotta see if the S4 lao jiaos can reply to this)

Also, if you are patient enough, you'll see people selling in this forum...

Rectifiers, please please do not use 2nd hand.... buy new sets! :bouncefire:

Very common..guess it's improper circuit design. As long as ur coolant doesn't boil or get dried up and fan does not comes "ON" before red light comes on..it's okay.

Sorry to ask so much as im a newbie to cb400..what if the fan does come on be before the red light does? from what i monitor, normaly the fan will turn on and then when i throttle, the red led will light up and then after moving off, the led will flicker abit then turn off..

Seems to be a common problem?

I've changed to a "chiong" tacho and the same problem keeps cropping up...

until I changed to an original (2nd hand) part...

Is it possitble to re-calibrate the part of something?
