New 'Busa headlines '08 Suzuki lineup

Story and event photos by Bill Andrews

"Sorry competitors, try again."

That's what Suzuki of America Vice President Mel Harris (right) said when he introduced the new 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa to a thousand-plus gathering of the company's dealers Wednesday night in Las Vegas at their annual meeting.

It was a direct shot across Kawasaki's bow. Team Green, as you may remember, just last year unveiled its ZX1400 'Busa killer.

The long-anticipated redesign was one of 14 new or significantly updated models for the American market next year. Here's a look at what you'll see at your local dealer in the coming months:

Hayabusa

MSRP: $11,999

Available this October.

At first glance, the front of the new 'Busa looks much like the model it replaces. According to Suzuki, that's to be expected. Many years were spent in the wind tunnel creating the slipperiest form possible for the first generation of the company's flagship model, and Suzuki felt little more could be achieved with anything too radically removed from that.

In the engine bay, though, it's a different story. Here we find so many upgrades to the old 1300cc mill that Suzuki classifies it as an all-new engine.

Suzuki stroked the motor by 2mm to 65mm, while keeping the old 81mm bore, bringing displacement up to 1340cc. The compression ratio was also increased from 11.5:1 to 12.5:1. These changes increase power output by 12 percent to an astonishing 195 horsepower, claims Suzuki.

wah 195 horse power!!!!!!!! don wait liao!!! :giddy:

:faint: ... my heart just stopped for a while after seeing the rear side of the Birdy Falcon... I'm gonna TELL my brother to get the bike since I already have the K6 model :cheeky: . Too bad no improvement on the side stand after all the "brouhaha" about the gizmos and what not.

Sorry guys but the rear end of this bike sucks. Looks like VW Beetle, not sure though how it looks on real life.

Cheers

Actually I'm thinking of this way! :D

haha sure??? i haven't even had enough fun with my Busa yet leh! anyway, talked to Looi's Motor Mr Lee, he said the bike most likely wont be available in local market so fast. US will taste it first. Mr Lee said most likely have to wait till early next year. :dozed:

seriously, previous pictures didnt allow me to have a good look at the tail section. base on this pic, the tail do looks abit weird. maybe removing the mud-guard will make it better. but, i still like it. most importantly, the tail was re-designed to allow smoother flow of the air stream over the rider and the bike. :thumb:

OK, old vs new ... Somebody tell me which is better ?

Old one done by Black Diamond, body parts are easily available. Frankly, I still find the old one more sleek and sexy. :p

how much did it cost Black Diamond to do up that bike?? The new Busa cost US$11,999 and have most of the upgrades. even if Black Diamond performs better, i dun think the new Busa will lose by a big margin. Furthermore, when you think that the new Busa is still in its STOCK condition, its potential is far yet unfulfilled, its not going to take a lot of effort to outdo the Black Diamond. 195HP!!!!! :faint: :faint: :faint:
