CNET Asia Review

Excellent: 8 out of 10

http://asia.cnet.com/i/r/2009/hp/45120488/b001.jpg

The good: Responsive; latest Android 2.1 OS; good voice quality with Crystal Talk; 3.5mm audio connector.

The bad: Poor battery life; 5-megapixel camera performs poorly indoors; QWERTY keypad is too flat; too heavy for some users.

The bottom line: Motorola's flagship Android device ticks all the boxes for a powerful Android device, though its keyboard and battery life could be better.

The phone is worth it if you can get it at 48 or 98...

i'm gonna share my opinion of the milestone.. hope it will give you guys a better understanding of the phone.

what grabbed my attention when i first got it was the weight. my previous phone was only 98g so i could feel the difference. but after using it for a while now, i'm quite used to the weight already. on the first day, when i put the milesonte into my pants, i could feel no significant pull in my pocket. the weight is not obvious. given it's flat profile, it sits in my pocket quite comfortably.

the next concern i have is the flat keyboard. i have read reviews of how flat it is, making it difficult to feel the buttons. but after using for a while, i beg to differ. the buttons are really easy to press and good to use, plus the 4 way directional keys on the right, gives me the added function to move about in my messages and text quite easily. i would prefer typing using this keyboard than any other touchscreen full qwerty keyboard.

some other things which were not big issues for me, but i felt worth mentioning, are as follows:

- the screen is bigger than most smart phones, and is scratch proof.

- camrea quality is above average.

- the system is reliable and good, does not hang or lag.

- quite user friendly, took me less than an hour to get used to it.

- wifi and reception is significantly better than most phones i have used.

- game play is good

- call quality is really good. i was in an enclosed place with music blasting away, talking with my fren, and she could hear every word that i say very clearly. the backgrd noise, according to her, could not be heard.

done with the good things... now with the bad points...

- battery life is poor, i charge it once a day, with average usage on calls, texts, wifi, n game play. if i play game the whole day, i would need to chrage once in the morning, once at night. but then again, which other capacitive touchscreen phones can perform in battery life?

this is purely my own opinion of the phone.

tanks.

If you use it continuously, of course the battery will be drained. If you look at the battery usage, the screen is the main drain.

I like the physical keyboard too, especially the cursor pad. It is essential for surfing net! (I'm not used to multi-touch zooming.) The keyboard is not of the best quality, but it works well enough.

One of my grip is that the phone doesn't like to enter landscape mode -- the tilt sensor doesn't work well. (It works once you slide out the keyboard, of course.)

In addition to its low price, there is one other reason why the MM attracts me. In today's fashion conscious society, no one wants to be caught using a $98 phone... Everyone and his uncle is using an iPhone... :cheeky:

what about visibility under sunlight? and gps software?

milestone user here for almost a month...

will try to answer some questions....

visibility under sunlight is poor...i dont use ipone so cant compare

gps is really good...though motorola motonav(something similar to nokia ovimaps) is only free for 3 mths only i think....

downloaded a couple of apps from andriod market and its really good.

if you want something different but about the same standard as iphone grab this phone...if you want to follow where the crowd go..get the iphone:cheers:

It aint me officer...The bike is POSSESSED!!

hi guys,milestone user here.. :)

in my opinion i personally think that this phone is iphone's closest rival in the market right now..

if i was to compare with iphone,i'd say this phone loads websites much faster than the iphone..

its 5mp camera is good enough for a decent shot..also comes with HQ video recording..

its keyboard, although kinda flat, has backlight and thats an advantage when using it in the dark..

what suprises me is that milestone also has multitouch capabilities..

battery life wise, its obvious that with all that functions and stuff,it really sucks the life out of ur batt..haha

visibility under bright sunlight is not so good....as for the gps theres the motonav(tried once while driving and its pretty good)

the maps load quite fast and for gps software...theres loads of it on andriod market...i downloaded a few and the one im using now can track the route, distance, speed and average speed. and its pretty damn impressive.

in terms of apps market, nothing can beat apple but i think andriod is catching up due to getting LG, samsung and htc(did i miss out any other brands:P) all running the andriod software. the only difference might only be the version. but no worries cause andriod running version 2.1 which is the latest.

all so good....now the bad points...i feel that the touch screen is not really that accurate and some issues with force closing with some apps.

time to crack your head and make a choice:cheers:

i choose andriod and so far no regrets:thumb:
