I guess some of us are really busy with work, family etc. and occasionally forget to pay bills on time. So what can you expect if you are behind your insurance renewal payment and are still riding your bike on public roads in Singapore?

Not much really, till you get caught! And it is a serious offence not to be taken lightly! It WILL turn into a Police Case and you will be charged under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

You should expect a police officer to come knocking on your door one fine day and issue a Court Summons. You will them make your way to the Traffic offences Court (#21), where a judge will decide your fate. Unless the circumstances are exceptionally extraordinary, your Licenses (all classes) will be suspended for a minimum of one year, and a fine anywhere from $0 -$3000 will be imposed on you. You can also expect Jail time if you are unable to fork up the fine or get someone to bail you out.

Second-time offenders (or those with past traffic violations) can expect heavier fines and longer suspensions.

So, think hard and think long before you hit the roads without a valid Insurance Cover.

getting fined, licence gantung are not too bad - because onli u suffer. hitting someone in the ass, damaging his bike and injuring him and not have $ to reimburse him is WORST

Yes. Getting involved in an accident means you could see being sued in court. Any injury to the third party will most likely result in a jail term.

And an out of court settlement will not be cheap either.

what if riding without insurance and the bike don't belongs to me but to a friend?

Both of you will get all your licenses revoked.

Not necessarily, as long as you manage to convince the judge that you were not aware the vehicle was uninsured. It is still the riders responsibility to check whether the vehicle he is about to ride is covered.

They want you to submit the insurance valid on the day that you were stopped at the road block. You will not get off the hook for changing your name in the policy after the incident. Just admit the mistake and you may get off with a lesser penalty. If you want to save your licence and money, don't ride without insurance. You put yourself and many others at a greater risk.

Hey guys please help me cos Im screwed.

Got caught in Campus at NUS cos my pillion didnt wear a helmet, we were going from hall to a nearby subway in campus and I got caught by the police. Helmet issue was let off, but apparently my insurance has expired for 11 days.

Now I know il get charged for a revoke of license, but is there anyway i can appeal to make it a suspension instead?

I just got my class 2 and I dont wanna retake all the frikin lesssons again.

Please help me im desperate. thanks

the best thing u can do now is to admit wrong. as for the insurance, make up a valid excuse, hopefully the judge/IO believe u. u're lucky the TP let u off with the helmet issue, otherwise it's double jepordy. good luck and hope u learnt ur lesson.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

11 days expired? wow bro, i dont meant to rub salt in your wound. What are you thinking? Best of the best, you attracted unwanted attention to your hidden wrong doing. If i am in your shoe, i will legally obediently to be a law abiding citizen at least till i get my INSURANCE RENEWED

You are a class 2 license holder. for good sake.

Because its my exams period so i thought what the heck might as well just settle it in december when it ends. Yes I did stupidly attracted unwanted attention. Any idea how long the procedures will take?

some how , i say u deserved it....

the ability to be able to study in nus means u must have some brains.

but apparently not .....

u can scold me , screw me hate me or curse me ..

and i cant think of 1 good reason why u should not be revoked...

Posted
Will I be able to just quickly renew my insurance first? ok thanks anyway

better wait for ur trial and see what the judge say rather u waste ur $$ and still get revoke. i cant help u with ur excuse, and i've said, u better cough up a story that the judge believe, cos if they found out u lied, u'll end up in worse state. on the bright side, be glad TP let u off for the helmet thing, else u jump into yellow river also nobody can help u.

also i'll advise to stop riding and lay off ur bike until ur verdict.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

May I assume you are student in NUS? Really, i cant put any logic to all your reasonings. like wait4me said, its better for rider like you to have the license revoked and retake all the basics. The essence of riding takes more than just getting a sexy class 2 bike and ferried few chios babes around. Breaking the law and endangered other people lives.

Like arthur mentioned. Dont do anymore things stupid and be remorseful when your time comes. You should go B-M-W now. Especially with that friend who sat with you without the helmet. I dont know what the 'U' lecturers been teaching in the school? Gezz, i 'O' level also know how to do think and do things rationally.
