A simple solution is to get a Mac.

Ahem,

Macs do crap themselves in their expensive pants too sometimes ;)

TS.

Stop 0x00000050 or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

The Stop 0x50 message indicates that requested data was not in memory. The system generates an exception error when using a reference to an invalid system memory address. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause Stop 0x50 messages.

Possible Resolutions:

# If you added new hardware recently, remove and replace the hardware to determine if it is causing or contributing to the problem. Run diagnostics software supplied by the hardware manufacturer to determine if the component has failed.

# Stop 0x50 messages can also occur after installing faulty drivers or system services. If the file name is listed, you need to disable, remove, or roll back that driver. If not, disable the recently installed service or application to determine if this resolves the error. If this does not resolve the problem, contact the hardware manufacturer for updates. Using updated drivers and software is especially important for network interface cards, video adapters, backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, and CD mastering tools. If an updated driver is not available, attempt to use a driver from a similar device in the same family. For example, if printing to a Model 1100C printer causes Stop 0x50 errors, using a printer driver meant for a Model 1100A or Model 1000 might temporarily resolve the problem.

In your case, the target file is spcmdcon.sys.

I think your best bet is to do a chkdsk, and repair your windows installation.

Worst case is change some hardware.

Heh, but most of the time, it just works. Oh, I don't own a Mac though. :)

TS, by looking at your BSOD and error msg, i suspect it is a memory related error. Try using 1 or 2 RAM sticks, interchanging the slots etc. If still got problem, update the BIOS firmware. Worst situation is the motherboard chipset or the memory bus spoil or something along that lines. Or if you have just upgraded your ram, looks like its not compatible.

Or you should do a chkdsk first using the Winxp boot cd.

By the way, i hate MAC. Linux FTW!

1) Pop in the Windows Boot CD, perform all the necessary checks, like chkdsk etc.

2) Remove all but one of your RAM sticks. Keep changing the slots if cannot work/Change the sticks. Try other ram sticks.

3) Pop in a linux cd to see whether it can boot from there.

4) Reformat HDD.

5) Change motherboard.

6) Change your PC.

When I get such annoying crap I just pop in the Windows CD, boot from it, install over the existing Windows fixing all the corrupted stuff. Most settings will be retained, no data loss. I'm not a believer of reformatting.

The fact that TS's comp can POST and attempt to activate the OS does suggest a software only issue.

not always the case. In fact, a lot of these are caused by failing hardware, sending out data which is corrupted.

Disagreed. In the computer world, anything can happen. Anything.

A classic problem i dealt with is when the PC could POST and go to windows, only to have memory errors shown by a BSOD after a random timing. It could be from faulty RAM stick to faulty memory controllers or even hardware compatibility problems.

I am a believer of everything. You just need to do decided whether you want a quick fix or a long term solution.

Kalyan, if you keep popping in the Windows CD to fix stuff, something in your system, possibility hardware related is causing the problem. I had a PC which would fail after a few months and had to keep popping the CD in. Ran SEATOOLS for windows and it gave no errors. Changed the HDD and everything worked fine after that.
