I was thinking of removing my helmet's cheek pads for more free room inside my helmet but if i were to do that, it would cause my helmet to have slightly too much space..

Has anyone removed the cheek pads while riding and how does it feel?

helmet too toight? Buy a new one that fits well. Removing protection from your helmet is not the smartest thing to do.

i agree..

cheek pads are there for comfort and absorbs most shock impact to your head..

buy a size bigger if u feel its a little tight...

Dont try bro, once u crash it will be a painful and unforgettable experience, i'll share with u mine and why i choose to use full face and nv use half face anymore... and also to tighten my helmet. I learnt that half-face cannot save ur chin if u get into a bad crash.

On 23/03/2010 Just got my gilera runner about 4 days ago, excited and and wack like nobody business lol, ard 1am along CTE going at about 90+km/hr on the overtaking lane and picking up speed, did not see the road works in front cus so excited about going fast, the car in front jammed brake i hit the back and flew quite a distance away. next thing i rmb my left chin dragging along the road for quite far, this is the picture of the outcome as shown below along the recovery periods.

The initial part of recovery is totally horrible i assure u, life = HELL. And i asked the doctor what happened to my face, there was a hole lol from the dragging along the road.

Now the wound became a small red patch scar on my face, It was horrible, painful and expensive lesson to learn =] Once again, dont try, unless u wanna be disfigured like me =/

what's the point of wearing FF when you don't have the cheekpads?

If only the cheek pads is too tight for you, some shop can redo and make it smaller for you at a price. So don't have to buy a new helmet.

Buying a full face helmet after crashing with an open face helmet and injuring the facial area just doesn't make sense.

Its like wearing a condom after the girlfriend is pregnant already. :faint:

Please... wear a full face helmet now before its too late.

My helmet also look very big, I look like Atom Ant after I put on my helmet, but it's ok, because it is spacious, got plenty of cushion, but not loose. :)

Want comfort and protection got to give up looks lor.... Can't win it all you know?

Nothing like pictures to drive home the point. Thanks Option. I'm a strong proponent of FF. Everytime I see a rider in a FF, no matter what bike they ride, I give them props in my head. The smaller the bike, the more props (takes balls to overcome the stereotyping by squids). Not wearing FF is, in my view at least, no different from smoking, eating junkfood everyday - do it if you want to assume the risk, but you've got no one but yourself to blame when the sh*t hits the fan.

TS, your helmet isn't meant to be loosey-goosey on your head. It's a protection mechanism and is meant to be snug over your head. A proper fitting helmet shouldn't be rotatable around your face, and neither should it be able to be pulled off forward or backward when the strap is on. A good rule of thumb I read somewhere is that your cheek pads must press against your cheeks with sufficient pressure that if you try to chew a chewing gum, you'd bite your inner cheeks. Try YouTube for videos of what a good fitting helmet looks like. Of course if your helmet is too tight, then you must do something about it. Your options are: find replacement smaller cheek pads, or buy a larger helmet. All the best!

how about going to shops that do helmet cushioning to modify your cheek pads (make it thinner etc)?
