Is it illegel to park?

just to check. received a $50 summon while parking on this road near expo....

 

at changi south ave 2

The area is .......

 

• not double yellow line
   
  
• 2 lane road.
  

 

is this even an offence?

 

offence stated : parking other then in the park lot.

 

 

 

 

i would like to appeal and hope can appeal. But still unsure what's the offence?

Are you parking on the road side? If so, Its an offence cause you are not parking your vehicle in a lot right?

 

If you are planning to appeal, better come out with a very good reason.

Is the lane divider a continuous white line? If it is, its illegal. If my memory serves me right, It has to be a broken white line for it to be legal(without any kinda of lines on the road unless continuous yellow line [7pm to 7am]).

Wow thats new. I am looking at my BTT now. How many years ago haha.

 

Anyway, broken white line, it did not state cannot park. But for double yellow, white etc. it specifically states cannot park.

 

Continuous yellow line --> 0700hrs to 1900hrs cannot park.

 

Anyway, off topic a bit, in the ATT, they state that when it comes to motorcycles, point 207. ".... not clearly visible... look out for them... give way to them... Do not insist on the right of way." Haha.

Oh. Normally, in my experience, it could have been classified as parking along a continuous white line. If it was a single lane road, with a dotted line to separate the 2 sides, without any other lines, then can park.

 

If 2 lane in one direction and the other 2 in the other direction(4 lanes total), with a continuous white line to separate the different directions, then cannot park.

 

But if 2 lanes one direction, then broken white line to seperate the directions(4 lanes total), then should be able to park i think.

From your first part, yes, it is illegal.

 

If it's a continuous white line seperating different direction of traffic flow, it is illegal. It does not matter if there is a broken white line seperating the 2 lanes on each direction. of course it's a broken white line seperating the lanes going in the same direction.

 

The key point here is that there is a continuous white line seperating both sides of traffic. Parking where there is such a line is illegal.

Usually parking other than in a parking lot is used within a car park. It's to deal with people who park in a car park but not in the designated spaces, even if there're no lines etc. I'm surprised this was used in your case - are there parking spaces drawn on the sides of the roads there?

 

The problem was that you parked at the side of a road with a continuous white line. That is a parking offence, even if there are additional lanes inside the continuous white line. Be careful when you appeal, do not get yourself into a situation where they use this other offence instead.

u can appeal. appeal for insufficient parking lots at the vicinity of the place. thus leaving u no choice to park there. u can also state that, its been a common parking area and they did not have a sign stating that u cannot park there. It should be enough reasons for them to waive the fine.

actually when it comes to parking, the safest is inside a lot, any other place be it 7pm-7am thing is still not safe, as they can put u for obstructing traffic (if they really want). i had put in an appeal last time at orchard, where really the lots r all full and furthermore it's raining. i only went up toilet about 10min and got ticket, appeal fail also.
