My impression of New Creation Church - Terence Lee (CHC)

Listening to Pastor Joseph Prince of New Creation Church preach was a little jarring. No, he wasn't physically present; instead, I went to the 5pm service on Sunday to watch a recorded preaching during a service held earlier.

The church didn't want to wear him out, my friend said.

Nonetheless, it didn't matter; the congregation made it seem like he was present nonetheless. It still felt like church.

This is the place that I used to think of as the 'enemy', a cult even. I remember that I used to lead a cell group once when two of my members decided to go to New Creation instead. They seemed to like it better.

Naturally I was concerned, after all, New Creation has been portrayed by my pastor as being 'Antinomian'. Antinomianism, according to my pastor, refers to a doctrine that preaches grace to the extreme of encouraging lawlessness and sin. Grace, therefore, is manipulated to become a license to sin. The risk is that once Christians believe in an Antinomian gospel, they risk losing their salvation.

However, after listening to Pastor Prince's sermon, I realised that he and his church may have been mischaracterised. There was totally no hint that he encouraged sin in anyway. In fact, I felt that like any pastor, he was teaching his flock to live righteously and possess the right values.

The gist of his message, I felt, was this: Focusing on our own sin does not cause us to stop sinning. Rather, by turning to Jesus and reminding ourselves of His finished work on the Cross, we become transformed to be more like him. Change cannot come by our own effort, he claims. It comes supernaturally.

It would seem like Pastor Prince's critics have been attacking the proverbial strawman all along. It would be nice if my pastor would have at least sat down with Pastor Prince for a cuppa just to sort out their doctrinal issues. Maybe they have? We really don't know. I would therefore like to encourage City Harvesters to listen to Pastor Prince's sermons for themselves, instead of taking our church leader's words at face value.

Of course, there were other aspects of his sermon that raised the alarm bells in me. It seems like he tends to hold to a rather literalistic interpretation of scripture, which I have reservations about. For instance, he believes that the Earth was actually tilted sideways because of the Flood, and as a result of that we now have four seasons instead of one. He also believes that before the Flood, the sky was pink due to high Oxygen levels.

While I am no scientist and cannot refute his claims outright, but I do wonder if Pastor Prince is critical enough of some of his beliefs. He seems susceptible to pseudo-scientific ideas. But I guess that is a problem with many Christian preachers in general.

And of course, Pastor Prince is a believer of the prosperity gospel too, but I think they tend to use the term 'health and wealth' more.

Overall, my impression of New Creation was somewhat positive. It was refreshing to hear a preacher talk about 'grace' and 'rest'. My church, on the other hand, tends to be very purpose-driven and focused on performance, but sometimes to the extreme of wearing its members out.

But like what my friend said, City Harvest Church has a stronger church community that makes its presence felt in the member's lives. I am also personally quite taken to my church's emphasis on the Cultural Mandate, which I think is quite revolutionary and meaningful although its implementation is key.

Will I consider joining New Creation? It seems like a long shot at this time. I don't really see it happening now, because I am still in the midst of exploring my own beliefs. But who knows what might happen one or two years down the road?

Nonetheless, I finally understood why my two ex-cell group members wanted to join New Creation. Of course, part of the reason had to do with me: I don't consider myself very good at leading a cell group and tending to the needs of a flock.

But there is another factor as well: New Creation is indeed an attractive church.

Total And Complete Forgiveness

Ephesians 1:7

7In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

People have said to me, “Pastor Prince, I was taught that only my past sins — from the day I was born until the day I became a Christian — have been forgiven, and that my future sins are not forgiven until I confess them and seek forgiveness.”

My friend, when Jesus died on the cross, how many of your sins were future?

Unless you are more than 2,000 years old, all your sins were future then! Jesus took them all upon Himself, nailed them to the cross and declared, “It is finished!” So if you are not forgiven of all, then you are not forgiven at all.

“You mean Jesus also died for the sin that I have just committed?”

Yes!

“And also for the sins which I will commit?”

Yes! That is why He said, “It is finished!”

But many of us are inconsistent in our believing. One part of us says, “God has forgiven me of all my sins.” But another part says, “Yes, but I must still confess my sins to be forgiven of them.” Are you like that?

Beloved, you are forgiven not because of your work of confession. Your confession cannot wash away your sins. You are forgiven because of the blood of Jesus shed for you. His blood alone cleanses you.

You cannot believe that you are forgiven of your past, present and future sins, and still think that there is something for you to do to make that forgiveness complete. If you do, then it becomes your work too, not Jesus’ alone.

Is there a place for confession of sins? My friend, if you have just sinned, you can always tell God about it without feeling condemned because you know that you already have forgiveness and that Jesus was condemned in your place. But you don’t confess your sins to God in order to be forgiven. You already have total and complete forgiveness because of the blood of Jesus!

Amen and Amen, to supplement the above. The key item that we need to remember is "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins". Hence goes the verse in 1 John 1:8-10

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

1. We admit / confess that we do sin when we do. And at the same time we also confess that we were redeemed through His blood from the curses of the law.

2. In current times, though what Jesus did was 2000 years ago, the terms of covenant still stand because He is the High Priest that lives forever, sitting at the right hand of God. If we deny His finished work and redemptive blood sacrifice, than we are exposing ourselves to the full judgement of the law.

That is why it is so important for us to confess and believe that Jesus is our Saviour, who died for us and for our redemption from the mouth, but more so from the heart.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation - Romans 10:9

Romans 11:29 For the gifts and the calling of God is irrevocable.

One church seems to be emphasizing on “prosperity”, yet another has a pastor who has turned into a “magician” cum stage entertainer of sorts ….. some have turned their services into “charity shows” by asking congregation for pledge of money, … another church seems “obsessed” with healings and miracle services, and yet another one seems to have turned a little too “supernatural” and performing way too many “exorcisms” with a long waiting list of “possessed” people in its deliverance ministry, while another one seems to have peoples’ tongues falling off with too much “speaking in tongues”!

What should THE church be focused on ??? one may ask

The answer can be found in Romans 5:17

For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

1) abundance of grace

2) the gift of righteousness

Are the church you are attending … preaching based on these 2 points ???

We can never have too much JESUS as abundance of grace + the gift of righteousness are from JESUS.

Romans 5:17 says, "...... much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. The word "reign" in this verse, in the original greek in which it was written, is the word "basileuo" and it means, "to be king, to exercise kingly power, to reign."

This means that we as Believers, those of us who have received the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness, are supposed to reign as kings! Notice, that these two gifts are RECEIVED. In order for a gift to in fact be a gift, it can only be given and received. When one receives a gift, they cannot buy it, or work for it, or earn it by any merit. Again, (at the risk of being over repetitive) a gift is only a gift when it is ONLY freely given, and freely received.

A dispensation is usually defined as a "period of time" in which God works with and in His people in a particular way, but this is only partially true. Calling a dispensation primarily a period of time will not bear up under close scrutiny of the Scriptures. In the Bible the term "dispensation" refers to a manner, method, or particular arrangement of dealing with people God has chosen to dispense during a period of time, not the time period itself. Usually the length of time is not emphasized or even mentioned, it is the doctrines God has established to be valid during that time that distinguishes one dispensation from another. In short, a dispensation is a certain mode of testing which God has dispensed to man, while a covenant is a contract or promise between God and man.

The term "dispensation" is found four times in the Scriptures (1 Cor. 9:17; Eph. 1:10, 3:2; Col. 1:25), and each passage makes it clear that God is dispensing something. In Eph. 3:2 it is "grace" itself that is dispensed, not a period of time called the "grace of God." God revealed through Paul how He was dispensing His grace to all men by making a free salvation available to them in Jesus Christ. This is contrasted with the Dispensation of the Law where God gave mainly law (though grace can be readily found in every dispensation). Under the Law obedience was demanded, obey the laws and live; break them and die (Gal. 3:10-13). In this Church Age of Grace, however, it is not obey the law but only receive Christ to be saved. In a nutshell, God simply uses covenants and dispensations to deal with man in different manners under different circumstances to teach and show him things about himself and his Creator.

Bro, dont mind me do some correction. Salvation from the Lord is not free. Its a gift and a gift always carries a value. This value was paid by the blood of God Himself, whom is Jesus. It cost Him His life :)

no problemo ... brother :thumb:

salvation today is "free" in a sense as it is readily available today; and we do not need to slash ourselves to be right with God as the Jesus has already made The WAY :D

The point is "you could have been Gracious and discussed this with me and not come up with some competing plan".

This is NEVER meant to be a competing plan as it was discussed among the group of NCC bikers before we post this trip up.

it never occur to me to discuss this trip with you as you have already have sth in mind + you are not from NCC.

We have decided to go Malacca tomorrow :D
