Really wonderful fellowship last night.... Not a single dull moment.

 

Thanks to Bite for the half boiled kampong chicken egg....best eggs i have eaten.

Romans 6:14-15

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

 

Here in book of Romans, we are not told that sin does not have dominion over us because we are not under the law, but under grace. In other words, law causes sin to have dominion over us and only under the law shall it be so. In the covenant of grace, the believer is dead to sin and sin has no dominion over our lives.

sometime doing something again and again can be a form of legalism too. For example the taking of Holy communion as it can become a ritual thingy...without meaning, without discernment, without the consciousness of the finish work of Jesus at the cross.

In the book of Romans, the word 'sin' was mentioned 45 times. Of those mentions, 44 were in the form of a noun while only one of them is in the form of a verb. If the comparative emphasis on sin as a noun and not a verb carries any significance with it, it has to be that sin is not just an action, but a nature that was within us since the fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden.

Not a single person in Israel died in the exodus from Egypt despite the children of Israel committing sins punishable by death (such as murmuring and complaining), prior to the giving of the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai. They were living under the pure grace of God and the goodness of God; They were living under the covenant that God established with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In fact, under this covenant of grace, not one amongst them was feeble amidst the harsh conditions of the wilderness as they departed from Egypt.

 

Psalms 105:37

37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.

 

However, after the giving of the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai, the children of Israel died one by one as they murmured and complained. The covenant of law produced death because man is by nature sinful since the fall of Adam and the wages of sin is death. In fact, the law drew out the sinful nature within man for the strength of sin is the law, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15:56.

 

1 Corinthians 15:56-57

57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ever wonder why as a Believer, sometimes we find it difficult to hear His voice? Ever wonder why David wrote so many Psalms? Ever wonder why Job cried and lament but still doesn't hear Him?

 

Well, it is called Grace. Solomon says there is a time and season for everything. God is there, but He wont force it on you if you are not ready to listen. He just let you be for the moment for you to cry your eye balls out (figuratively), but He will be there when you reach out to Him.

 

So lets give grace to others. Let's just be there, be a brother/sister for now. Let's listen with grace.

Exodus 32:31

31 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.

 

After the Ten Commandments was given at Mount Sinai, the children of Israel almost immediately breached the first clause of the Ten Commandments and constructed a golden calf for worship. In this instance, they became a slave unto gold.

 

Psalms 105:37

However, as we move back the timeline a little to the exodus from Egypt - when the children of Israel were still under the grace covenant that the LORD had established with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob - we saw the children of Israel receive more than just their back-pay wages, in the form of gold and silver. All of these came through the grace of God and none of them worked for this wealth per se since they were slaves unto the Egyptians. In this instance, we see gold (or wealth) serving them instead.

If the world condemns prosperity in terms of monetary offerings/tithes etc. Let's see what kind of offering can a Believer bring ...

 

- food offering ?

- clothing ?

- other personal belonging besides clothing ?

 

You can't bring life offering as there is no place to sacrifice the animal. On the same note, the Animal Rights activist will be coming after the church. NEA will also be paying a close attention on hygiene etc.

 

This concept of bringing 'something' to honour one's parent is also a tradition the secular world holds. So in this case, what if one doesn't honour it and for whatever visits (be it during festive season, social visit or just simply filial piety'. Would the son/daughter be condemned?

 

On the same note, for Lunar New Year, we should just replace the money notes with chinese talisman since thats the origin of this practise.

i am already in one ... the one that no one can replace ... which takes a lot of my money, time, love, care, sweat, tears ... etc
