Microsoft to allow users to downgrade to Windows XP until 2020.

Windows 7 may be seeing pretty good sales, but the aging, 9-year-old Windows XP is still the choice for many businesses. Gregg of ComputerWorld explains in detail why and how Microsoft will continue to somewhat support Windows XP for a wee bit longer to keep everyone satisfied.

Of course I won't upgrade to Vista. What a great big resource hog that no sensible consumer wants.

7? Bah, my XP still works, and was designed to solve the instability issues of 98SE whist retaining much of its performance. See, XP is designed to SOLVE things, not CREATE them from over-hyping and developing another Windows version to mend Vista! :D

What? 2020? Sweet. It will be my next OS. Haha.

I'm guessing the other 26% were either folks that had already put up with the sluggishness, and nagging-ness, of the 2 futuristic and shiny operating systems (the ones after XP).

Or that they were being conned into buying them, only figuring out that damn it I already bought it and/or integrated into my office network and there's no way out. ;)

Seriously speaking, some people, including me, needs an OS that doesnt look fancy at all and just does what its supposed to do.

95, 98, 2000 and XP were very practical. Vista onwards, i get all the pretty things that i can't be bothered to look at.

Hey there, thanks for the reply.

I've actually jumped on the Windows 7 bandwagon within the same month it came out because I couldn't stand Vista any longer.

I was indeed surprised by the slight speed improvement (perhaps it was a new OS to begin with), and the many conveniences it brought with that Vista should have thought of.

You'd be surprised that I'm typing this out on my new Apple MacBook Pro. Yep, I've gotten bored of Windows already. Got my reasons why despite all that Microsoft has released :p

Xp is easy to use. I find it lightweight as well. No frills. :-)

Well, pretty much somewhat everything there is to know, except for the fact on why they keep on putting out the same ol' mundane operating system 4 or 6 times a decade instead of change.

In this line of job, Windows is repeated ad nauseam so this isn't some ordinary people becoming experts. It's like the technicians that you are inspired already know how to fix the issue, but they're like "ugh...can't we just chuck the crappy PC out the window and buy a new one already?" :p

My review? It just works when you throw anything at it.

Either that most of the time, or it'll just gracefully bluescreens itself in the pants.

With that said, I wouldn't mind rebooting a Windows XP computer (I think i can hear my tech friends say You siao ah?)

Having gone from XP straight to Win7, I find that I actually prefer Win7. It didn't even cross my mind to revert back to XP.

Ok, so I'm a tech junkie who doesn't mind an aesthetically pleasing UI. :p

Windows XP is good for using on netbooks. Installed WinXP on my netbook that came with the basic win7. WinXP is decently powered yet lightweight. Kinda' reminds me of those 2b 2stroke bikes =)

Same here, I'm a sucker for eye candy. But in the case of Windows operating systems, I gotta admit the fun factor fades away when you use it frequently.

Win XP?

I'd liken Windows 98 to 2-stroke 2B bikes.

Just like how clunky Windows 98 is, my old RS125 kept on breaking down lol.

My PC is still running Windows XP. I probably will be forced to upgrade at some point when games need Dx10 or higher.

But for everything else . . . SNOW LEOPARD FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WinXP without a lot of unnecessary services and a spartan startup list = NSR SP :3 Surprisingly quick even on netbooks. Not that I'm a fan of netbooks unless they start costing less than $200.

I still play games that are 10 years old and still look graphically decent so the PC will probably last me until it has melted down or something. Which it can't do as early low speed core2duos run at 40 deg C (yes, only 40). Just begs me to overclock it to hell, which I have no interest in doing.

Between the choice of buying $10 pillows and $1000 computers, the choice is obvious.
