Does driver get away scott free?

I had signaled left into the carpark at Jurong East Central (Near the NTUC) when a vehicle (GZ5252) had hit me at the rear of my motorbike which then caused my bike to fall on the right side. A couple of heavy scratches and dents were made. The driver had then stepped out of the car and had asked me to pick up the bike and not to halt the traffic. I pushed my bike to the pavement while he proceeded into the carpark and parked. When I walked into the carpark to look for him. He mentioned that the accident was caused by me and that I could go and complaint against him. He also refused to exchange particulars.

 

I made my way to the police station whereby I was issued a report as hit and run without injury. I went down to IDAC to file a report with them as well. When I had went down to my bike shop to file a claim against the party involved. I was told that the claim might be highly unsuccessful as I had no photos or had failed to obtain information from the Driver who had hit my rear. He also mentioned that the best he could do was to try to see if the other driver had filed a report with his insurance company (Which I believe he didn't) and to see if he were to accept that he did in fact hit my bike. If he were not to accept, it would be really really difficult to claim and that my witness would be deemed useless as it is my friend.

 

PS: I had not taken a photo. I do have a witness who is a friend who was at the coffeeshop just opposite who had witnessed everything.

 

 

Any suggestions as to what I could do? Would greatly appreciate your expertise.

witness friend? he wasnt in the same vehicle as you right? go ahead and use him as your witness. No one will know he is your friend unless he was on the same vehicle. call him an aquaintance.

first of all, u make a police report under hit n run, dats mean u dun hv/nd d other party's particular...

as long s u got his vehicle number, its enuff.... let d IO do der job in finding d driver...

Yeah but when I asked my insurance company about it, they said the witness has to an acquaintance not a friend but I've already informed the insurance company that it is my friend. That's why. The carpark has no CCTV too.

 

I hate drivers who get away just because I don't have a damned camera phone. Argh.

Bikers should grow up and be more mature.

 

time and again such post has come and gone.

 

If got friend or no friend to witness some incident like this, makes little difference.

 

So what if report of hit and run was made.

 

SPF is known to be...'not my business as nobody was hurt, parties suffered damages to property, go settle with civil suit' type of response.

 

So you need to get lawyer to pursue a civil claim against the other party if the other party insurance or even your own insurance, does not pay you for the damages to your bike.

 

Even if TP give demerit points to the other driver, it still boils down to whether insurance companies settle your claim or you file your own claim on your own in court.

 

Or else you pay for your own damages.

Lesson we should take from this and all other accident posts here on SBF. Once you kena accident and you are pretty sure it is not your fault, do what soccer players do.

 

Injury case = cannot move vehicles = call TP = you win. That is provided you are really in the right. E.g. get T-boned by vehicle coming from minor road.

 

Just saying, if you are injured, make sure you get proper help.
