This is slightly off-topic. Ckunjie, you might want to use Singpost's VPOST service when buying from people that only ship to the US. Once you register, they'll provide you with a US address. After that, Singpost will charge you an amount to ship the item to your home. Ususally, the cost isn't much higher than if you get the seller to ship the item direct to you. If you want more details, please pm me.

Also, if you dun mind raising your budget a little, the Partagas Serie D4 might suit your palate. Most people that like medium to full flavoured cigars have this high up on their list of favourites.

you can buy cubans from Cigarros or Red Chamber, both very renown retailers in HK.

Red Chamber is under the P&L group so if you are a member can get 10% off anything.

Cigarros is at St. George St.

Redchamber is opposite the LV boutique, I cant remember address

Both on Hongkong Island side.

prices of aged cigars are quite reasonable at Cigarros.

for up to 10 years old, mostly are priced HK$150 - $400 per stick

You can still get Cuban Davidoffs there too.

but the staff aint really super friendly unless you are "dai lo". hee hee

At Red Chamber, store manager is Teddy. Quite freindly and can offer good advice.

Cuban Davidoff Test Results

==================

1000: A punchy little cigar with a lot of flavor, the 1000 shows medium-bodied, rich tobacco and coffee character, yet remains subtle and elegant. -91

Ambassadrice: This is always a lovely panetela to smoke with medium-bodied, rich coffee and milk-chocolate aromas and flavors, and a long fresh aftertaste. Their only drawback is that they sometimes are a little rough to draw. -88

2000: Mellow and rich, the 2000 is a full-bodied cigar with lots of spicy nutty character and opulent flavors in the aftertaste. -91

3000: An easy, rich cigar with the fine draw and lovely construction. With each draw it delivers more and more flavor. -89

Château Margaux: Burns wonderfully. This cigar is packed with rich tobacco flavor yet remains refined. It's medium-bodied with a cedarlike tobacco character and a wonderful draw.-92

Château Mouton-Rothschild: A big voluptuous cigar with round and rich leather tobacco character and a wonderful draw. -94

4000: The surprise of the tasting, the 4000 is a knockout with spellbinding aromas and flavors of cedars and tobacco. It's an absolutely seductive smoke. -97

No.2: Full-bodied and rich for such an elegant-looking cigar, the No.2 burns wonderfully and delivers plenty of flavor. -93

Château Haut-Brion: This has always been a powerful smoke for such a little cigar. Sometimes we find the Haut-Brion a little overpowering but it can be a great quick cigar following a big meal. -86

Aniversario 80: This cigar was made to celebrate Zino Davidoff's 80th birthday. It is generous and rich with full-bodied flavors of cedar and tobacco, yet it remains refined on the palate. -99

Dom Perignon: The DP has always been a favorite, a bench mark for Churchill-sized cigars. It's full-bodied with intense spicy, earthy cocoa character that continues through the last puff. -96

No.1: Medium-bodied and firmly constructed, the No.1 delivers exotic aromas and flavors with hints of leather and tobacco. -94

Château Latour: A wonderfully rich cigar with loads of cedar, tobacco character and fine even burn. -94

Thanks throttle for the guide, will certainly go cigarros.

Nightstalker, i will certainly take note of it. I read in cigars-review.org that magnum 46 is pretty good. How about upmann no.2?

Anyway i smoke a Cohiba Siglo 2 last night. Quite nice with choco and coffee taste, medium body. I still prefer partagas more, siglo 2 seems quite medium for me. I heard from entity that siglo series is more mild than normal cohiba. Throttle mention that cohiba standard is going down? So how about cohiba exquisitos, panetelas and robusto?

Being smoking mareva all this while, want to try some other vitola like julieta or piramide or dalia. Any good recommend? You guys seems to like monte cristo no.2 and partagas p2 for piramide, feel like trying this two as well. Going to try partagas d no.4 this weekend heehee.

Seems like you have been reading up a lot. You are already using factory names for the vitolas instead of market names.

eg.

Mareva = Petit Corona

Julieta = Churchill

Dalia = Lonsdale

Prominentes = Double Corona etc......

Enjoy your smokes

Ckunjie, I forgot to recommend the Cohiba Exquisitos the other day for a small but really full-flavoured cigar.

In general, Cohibas cost a little more than other cigar brands of the same size. The panetalas are good, but not quite value-for-money.

A general guide to the cigars best-of-size (excluding Limitada):

Robusto: Ramon Allones Specially Selected, Partagas Serie D4, Cohiba Robusto, HdM Epicure No. 2

Hermoso No. 4: RyJ Exhibition No. 4, El Rey Del Mondo Choix Supreme

Corona Gorda: Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 1, H. Upmann Magnum 46

Pyramides: Partagas Serie P2, Montecristo No. 2, H. Upmann No. 2

Posted

for piramides, the Diplomatico No. 2 is a really good one. Not as well known but more consistent than the Monte although not as deep as the P2. Certainly worth a try

Hi all,

Glad to have come across this forum.

I am seriously thinking about picking up cigars. Have done some low end stuff but when I had my first cuban a few days ago... wow!!! What a difference! Although what I tried was only a RYJ No. 2, but I cannot remember which series, the difference was apparent. One problem is that the draw was tight. It died on me 3 times!

Can I get some help here regarding humidors? With the humidity in Singapore, do we need to add solutions in the humidor? What kind of solution is that? Where can we get them? Are humidors in Singapore expensive? I saw some on different websites and wrote to them about shipping cost to Singaopore. Still waiting for their reply.

I will be trying the Upmann Coronas Major No 2 tonight. Bought it for S$15.60. Is this price ok? Any comments for this cigar?

Thanks guys!

Hi Shiokman,

Good that you have taken a liking to Habanos.

Instead of doing the tubos (such as the RyJ No. 2 and the Upman CM No. 2) you can move to doing the non-tubo cigars as tubos are generally lower grade.

click back a few pages to find loads of info on humidors and other stuff.

Or better, join us during our meet ups to learn more and get to know the guys.

Cigars and related are expensive in Singapore naturally.

You might want to visit a few good retailers in town for a browse.

Con Divan at UE, La Casa Del Cubano at Regent, Oaks at Tanglin.

Oaks have a new branch at Great World. 1 week old.

though they dun have much varieties, prices are not bad...

seems like the condition is better than the ones at taka/tanglin.

never really went for a detail check.

p.s anyone have HDM Epicure Especial LE 2004 ??

Posted

they just closed their restaurant at Tanglin, so open a new branch at Great World.

Oaks new branch at GWcity is at the basement (carpark area) very small shop with nice accessories but not much cigars.

Did they close thier restaurant? Oaks cigars at Tanglin mall still open right?

Hoyo Epi Especial EL2004, tough to find and very expensive.

Taste very similar to Hoyo piramides EL 2003.

I wont buy a box of the Especial but dont mind a few.

I still prefer the understated RyJ Hermoso No. 2 EL 2004.

Very "ageable", deep aromas, beautiful wrapper, perfect draw and burn, good finish and rounded flavors.

I think I'm getting another box!

Hi Shiokman, it's great that you're getting into cigars.

My take on the humidors:

1. Singapore's humidity is close to perfect for keeping cigars. It is not necessary to add any water or solution inside the humidor.

2. If you're just starting out, a small humidor will be better (check out posts in the last few pages where this topic was brought up).

3. It's usually cheaper to get humidors from ebay (topic was also brought up recently).

On the topic of recommended smokes, it's hard to give a recommendation unless we know your taste in cigars. And to do that, you got to try a variety of smokes from various brands (preferably Cuban).

Thank Throttle and entity for your replies.

I will definitely go to the retailers in town to take a look, and also to pick up some cigars to try different flavours (if this is how you call it).

As I travel quite frequently, I am looking to get a humidor for home and one for traveling.

Throttle, since you travel frequently as well, what are the good buys at the duty free at changi airport? I can get 10% off there. hee hee! Have you been to the duty free at frankfurt? it has a walk-in humidor with lots of cigars. Are the prices there good?
