welcome nuvole!!

how's the pipe smoking like?

i done one RYJ EL Hermoso No2 on Wednesday night. It was a good smoke, the draw is smooth, the smoke is creamy and silky, no harsh or sudden pinch....

however, the taste is on medium side, the taste changed along the way was gradually and i can't differenciate it with my still new-to-cigar palate, kind of wasted...

smoke till the last 1 1/2 inches and the cigar got heaty, every draw was hot then i gave up, may be my drawing technique was wrong... i tend to make a short draw and follow by a long one, think this is the cause of heating up the cigar...

this is a good smoke, however, i still prefer stronger body like partagas or light body with fruity aroma like HDM. :lovestruck:

suprise to know that throttle is such adventurous person, sky diving, bungee jump... i thought most banker's hobby are changing big cars, women, clubbing.... throttle really full of suprises... :thumb:

Smoking pipe is very different from cigar, it require some pratice and get used to.

It "suppose" to be much much cheaper than smoking cigar, unless one get hook to buy expensive pipe:cheeky:

hey sev, so all i need to do now is juz charge the humidifier izzit?

yup, put a short galss of distilled water inside, close for few hours, remove the water, put it your hygrometer and close it, monitor the humid, once its drop to 70%, put your cigar in.

sometime it is hard to get 70%, you may want to put it in air-con room to lower its humid, the close it again, the humid will build up slowly, put your cigar in when it is about 65%. hope it will stable... :giddy:

Many people disagreed with me, but afaik none of the cheap hygrometer read accurately to +/- 5%.

I've 2 "cigar type" digital, one Diamond crown & one analog. Testing them on different humid in a seal container, and found that they read difference up to 15%!!!. While analog hygrometer can be calibrated, digital ones can't. Anyway I use them as a rough guide, and pinch lightly on the cap of the cigar will tell you if the humidity in the humidor is right.

And not to forget PG.

Under non-aircon condition the humitity here can be up to 85%, so instead of using the humidifier to wet cigar, we are actually doing opposite. Unless you leave your humidor in aair-con room, I suggest the 70% PG + 30% water combination.

i calibrated the analog one by wrappin it in a damp towel. it read 100%. after tat i put it into the humidor and after a while it dropped to 72%. repeated the process a few times and i got the same results. noticed tat if i left the hygro in the open i could see the needle droppin slowly

do i still need PG? still need to leave a glass of distilled water in it? this is confusin man

Then your humidor should be ready:cheer:

The glass of water is for new humidor only.

When the humidor is new, especially if you buy it overseas, its very dry.

Hence at the start, ppl use wet towel or glass of water to moist the cedar wood.

This process can takes a day to weeks depending on the dryness of the wood.

Once the humidor is wet enough, the the PG + Water in humidifier comes in.

The PG will restrict water evaporation if RH is above 70%.

Source: ~Cannot publish here~

Price: 196.70 EUR for box of 25

Atmosphere: Late Friday night, at a little park.

Construction: Slightly soft, no hard or soft spots.

Appearance: Wrapper was chocolate brown and lightly oiled, a little bumpy, but nice veins.

Pre-Aroma: Rich and spicy

Pre-Draw: Easy

Light: I gently toasted it with a liquid fluid lighter, the taste started soft & mild.

First Third: Creamy, soft, mild with hints of chocolate & coffee.

Second Third: Deep flavors, nice leather.

Last Third: Strong and noticeable peppery spice.

After-taste: Rather heavy on the palate, but delicious.

Summary: I prefer it more than Monte No.2 & H.Upmann No.2 (which was the only other Piramide I've smoked).

i tried throttle's piramide last time we met as well as a monte 2 a few days later. found tat the draw was rather tight. not so easy as a robusto. are all piramides like tat?

I do find monte 2 a notch tighter than P2, the draw of P2 was more or less like monte edmundo.

But there are several factors of why the cigar is tight.

Did you under-cut the cap? The filler was tight? Was the cigar over humidified?

i dun think it was the cap. at first i help my fren cut off a decent amt of the tip, but after i found the draw to be too tight. i cut off off somemore but to no avail. dun think it was over humidified though.

had a puff of a upmann no.2 before. it was tight, but not as bad as the monte 2 my fren had

Having 40 over stick of monte no.2 under my bed, I hate to admit that monte can be inconsistence. I've some 04's monte no.3 that draw really tight and some 05's that draw okay. Bear in mind they are one of the highest in demand, hence possibility of rush rush job. I have been looking for less well known cigar to smoke with good reviews, but unluckily most cost to much for me

BTW, hope someone post me a private message for source of Partagas Culebras :cheeky:

Nitestalker, it's possible that one was the odd one out of the box. Approx 10% of cigars may be tight or even worse plugged.

Piramides and robustos have beautiful draws usually.

P2s are really good for now. I hope the standards dont drop after the early batches.

I'm off to Tokyo tom evening
