cant, silica gel absorbs moisture it doesnt regulate humidity

http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/4128/demimoore2fi.jpg

you can however soak silica gel in PG solution an use as humidifier for short term basis.....heh heh heh...dont say i say....later all your cigars get bugs!!!

guess i'll have to make a trip down to oaks to buy a bottle of PG. seems like chargin the humidifier in distilled water alone will cause the humidity to sky rocket. cos my humidor now still reads 80%.

damn... gotta keep it open in the aircon room tonite and see how it goes

Posted

bro, just let the humidifier go...and use the humidor alone. good enough.

unless you are going to leave your humidor in an aircon room 24 - 7, singapore's humidity is high at 80 - 85%

no need to wait, just put your cigars in , the humidity will drop as your cigars soak it up. unless your cigars are wet to begin with.

in any case dont be stuck onto rules. while 70% is recommended, it depends on how you like your cigars. I like mine a little softer so my humidity is up to 75%. some of my best smoking cigars have been kept that way for a very long time with excellent results. You remember my silky dark oily el rey del mundo choix supremes? in hongkong , it seems that people like it as low as 55% even. thats too low for me becos the wrapper can crack easily as you play with the cigar..

I'm smoking an Upmann No.2 while typing this message. hehehehehehe

the function of the humidor is to keep your cigars from external odors and to maintain a humidity between a range which will neither dry out your cigars nor cause them to grow bugs. it contains the original good condition of the cigars and aromas by allowing them to breathe, it is also beautiful to look at and admire. beyond they the humidor is just a box lined with a cedar interior. haha.

relax , enjoy.

As Throttle have recomended, just use your humidor as it is w/o the humidifier for now.

PG sold at most cigar store are pre-mixed 50/50, I normally use every third time I prime my humidor. The humidity in S'pore at this season is more than 80%, so unless you leave you humidor in air con room, it will be on the wetter side.

Sev and myself both found this site when google for "singapore cigar smoker"

and we have yet to meet.

Having spending too much time on messaage board, this should be my last post here.

Should there be any cigar smoker meet-up, or problem/question with the retailer, do email me.

draw was just nice and smoke was totally dependable, toasty and satisfying.

towards the last third, it exhibited the distinctive "sweetness" of this must do double corona.

i'm planning an RYJ hermoso no. 2 EL 2004, an upmann con no. 1 and a Cohiba Siglo III.
