as it seems like there are more people interested and joining the thread, we can revisit certain questions or discussions for the benefit of others.

How to choose a cigar (no reference to taste)

==================================

1. Decide how long you want to be smoking first becos that would determine which size you will be going for. For beginners my advice is a Petite Corona or Mareva becos it is like the 7 iron of golf, not too short not too long, not too big and not too small.

2. Look - Just like looking for a mate. you are attracted to a cigar first by its looks. In the cigar world a beauty is known by its smooth untainted, dark, oily, sheeny wrapper (outer leave). Spots are fine but be careful as some may indicated bad storage or BUGS! Veiny dry , cracking wrappers are a no no.

3. Hold , Touch , Caress but however be considerate and dont go round the shop doing that, hold in hands is acceptable but please dont let it touch your nose until you have purchased it. the cigar to feel firm but yet soft enough to be pressed. cracking sounds are indication of dry binder leaves which is generally still acceptable although not my personal cup of tea. youf fingers may feel a little sticky after that due the the oils secreted onto the wrapper by a breathing cigar.

4. Smell - it must have a scent that you enjoy (dont rub against your nose to smell, very inconsiderate and shops dont condone it). if it doesnt, then forget it. remember, cigar smoking is a lot like food tasting and food that doesnt smell too good usually doesnt taste too good either. use durian picking skills for this part.

Absorb scents from the foot and the body by slow uninterrupted draws.

5. Price - Choose a cigar of a price to suit your tasting mood. Otherwise, you may not be able to truly enjoy it thinking of how much it is hurting your wallet. Give yourself a treat anyway.

6. Ask someone knowledgeable (dont assume that people who work in the shop are knowledgeable) when in doubt.

i see, actually 2 to 3 yr olds cannot be termed as "aged".

they need to be 7 yrs old to be officially termed as "aged" in the cigar world.

both the mac and the DD are light tasting cigars, dont know if it is good for the aging process.

some cigars may lose their flavors completely when aged.

enjoy
