on the flip-side of abstinence... did a partagas p2 this afternoon... sunny, balmy and windy day...

nightstalker> this was the p2 that i cut on fri night but didn't light up until today.

oily and dark wrapper... good construction although i'd say the stick i had wasn't in as prime shape... well balanced... the foot of the cigar had a strong musky bean scent... wrapper was spicy and woody scented - trademark partagas.

good draw, although i suspect i'd probably cut way too far in. prefer a more firm draw...

1st third started off with tingling spiciness, a little sweet with a chocolatey finish. "Medium to full-bodied" was what went through my mind at that point. not harsh and not too bitter.

2nd third onwards: Peppery, woody, earthy flavours emerged - as one would expect from a partagas. Developed into a rather full-bodied smoke. Maintained this all the way to the last inch; close to burning my fingers! it was a fulfilling mid-day smoke, and it was surprisingly good for a cigar that'd not been aged or left to rest for much time.

I simply smoked it because aesthetically, this stick had some imperfections i couldnt bear to look at much longer. haha, right Nightstalker?

Wah Power lah Doubtfool!

P2 for afternoon smoke...

So far I would rate this as the top new vitola from Habanos this year.

No resting required , jut smoke from box, beautiful and tasty.

Nitestalker, I'm resting lah really. clean out my palate first.

I may do one tomorrow. or I may just leave it until thursday when i get to Vietnam...

but whatever it is....enjoy...

I would recommend cutting about half a centimenter off the cap for a piramide as a general guide

If cut is too small the tar and nicotine may clog up at the mouth after smoking half the cigar.

anyway after the first cut and you still feel that the draw is not up to mark , you can cut it again. do watch out for the capline, overcut that and your wrapper will unravel....very ugly, heh heh

sev> our box was pretty banged up. i took the worst of the remaining sticks; the one where the cap was already unravelling... and yup, it was a little ugly. haha, it lasted like two hours, in the sweltering mid-day heat. though aided by some copious amounts of sangria> helped to take my mind off the cap... haha

theSquid> hope i can make it for your next smoke-out. Might have dinner appointment which i have yet to confirm. Anyway, if i can make it, maybe can recce the wine place across the road? Much cheaper than conn. divan. By the way, how're the Juan Lopez? I need some PCs for those short short smoke... like Por Larrañaga?

the juan lopez's ok ar imho.

heres wat i think of the cigar which i wrote down to take note.

brownish in colour, spent 2 weeks in my humidor.

full cut, 1 matchstick, pre-light draw was a bit tight. zzz.

after lighting up, 1st draw was surprisingly easy but tingles of spice is present.

spice continues down until about 1/3 of the cigar was done.

afterwhich a dark woody taste kicks in along with slight increase of intensity.

ash held on for 2 inch plus before falling.

when about an inch was left, smoke turned terrible!!

too soft, very hard to draw. should be better after a few more mths in the humidor.

eh... very new to smoking and my opinions might be quite wrong. :cheeky:

think i only have 1 left. hahahaha.

still waiting for my Por Larranagas to arrive. can hardly wait!

gonna let them settle for half a year before allowing myself to touch. heheheh.

Regarding Partagas P2s - these are 2005 release from habanos and are really good cigars. I hope that the quality will remain solid. It happens that later batches of a new vitola worsen as the original quality and blend of leaves is quickly used up due to the high demand.

Monte No. 2 suffered from this and 2001 to 2004 batches were seemingly lousier in taste and quality.

The above is hearsay and I hope that it's not true, otherwise I must start hogging PArtagas P2s for aging......hoho.

TheSquid> Thanks for the review on the Juan Lopez man. Hmm, you've ordered a box of Por Larrañaga PCs? The box of 50 right? Mind if i nick one or two? :cheeky:

oh by the way, what is "tua-leng-gong"?

Throttle> Haha, I think you've started the ball-rolling for everyone to start hoarding up extensive stashes of Partagas Serie P no.2. By the way, tried Romeo y Julieta Petit Piramide Ed.Ltda. 2005? The super short piramide...

yes, smoked the RYJ petit robusto el 2005 at Bangkok's White Chamber formerly known as the Nurse....

Not a great cigar especially since it is an EL. I'll prefer the Belicoso Finos any day.

Buy the P2 early, i think the quality will start to slack next year.

Buy buy buy....
