had two ryj EL over the past few days. a ryj robusto EL 2001 and a hermoso EL 2004.

both were such a sight to behold. dark and oily, they were simply begging to be smoked.

in my opinion, i'd prefer the robusto wif its deep intense flavors, which kicked in right from the start. it was smooth, with notes of cedar and dark choc. the only flaw was the the burn was slightly irregular. had to touch up several times.

been savin this cigar for quite a few mths and i must say i wasnt disappointed at all. a perfect smoke to celebrate my b.day!

The RYJ Robusto EL2001 is quite rare nowadays if available at all

I dont recall doing that before but I'm sure it should quite solid.

how about meet up tom?

"Fun" fact:

The current (May 2006) tobacco tax in Singapore is S$352 per kg.

Using approximate weight of a Robusto size cigar as 12 grams, a box of 25 Robusto cigars will incur (12 x 25)/1000 x 352 = S$105.60 before GST.

GST is determined by the purchase price of the box of cigars. Current (May 2006) GST is 5%.

Hi guys, long time no post. I've been missing for along time offshore.

FYI, I paid S$123.20 + S$7.66(GST) last year for a box of monte no.2

I thanks the custom officer after paying, and he look blur blur, not knowing the cost of cigar sold locally. Hope we have chance to meetup sometime somewhere:-)

75% is ok lah, i keep mine about there as well.

a plugged robusto is more likely due to a poor roll than storage.

I got to go to Jkt for 1 nite on Wednesday for a presentation, next week going to Medan and the following week to Jkt again......

I'm out for the next 3 weeks it seems.

You guys enjoy.

Had an opening in my schedule yesterday for an unscheduled smoke. So I brought my ass down to Con D and enjoyed my first Cohiba Siglo 6.

Assessment:

Drink: Chinese Tea

Food: Beef cubes from Zen

Pre-light: Very well made. Slightly spongy, no hard spots. Even when punched, the draw wasn't tight.

The Siglo 6 is a very substantial, tasty cigar. Yet, for it's size, which conveys the impression that it'd be very powerful and strong, it's milder than expected. That's not to say that it's mild. In fact, the full power of the cigar was only displayed after the first third. But it's not as strong as a Monte Especials or the Cohiba Esquisitos.

This cigar was smooth despite it's youth and gave only the tiniest bit of "bite". I believe with more aging, this cigar could turn out to be very very good.

The flavours were quite complex but I wasn't in the mood to discern and dissect them. It's should be suffice to say that the Cohiba character was present together with a whole host of other flavours.

I'm gonna age my remaining 2 sticks a whole lot more before tasting them again.

Had quite a few Siglo 6s (i think 5 or 6)

Unfortunately for me, only 2 were good, the rest were mediocre or worse.

These SigloVIs were directly bot from the Partagas Factory Shop and La Corona Factory Shop in Habana........bah

Often read in reviews that the SigloVI is powerful etc.... thats certianly not true in my opinion.Either that or the smoker has a really very low threshold for cigars. Haha.

Have 3 more left in my humidor which I am not touching and have no interest to touch until 2007 maybe.......

Got a box of Traditionales box date 2000! Superb in terms of flavor, burn and construction. dark dark wrappers. Currently my "hot" smoke of the month, heh heh

Hi everyone, i join the forum cause you guys are really expert in cigars. I am a newbie to cigar, i have only try Monte Cristo no.4 and Romeo Y Julieta (Forget which one all i know it cost me around $19) I would like to know more info from you guys hope that you can guide me along. Where is the usual place you get your cigars from? How to choose a cigar cutter and butane lighter? It's necessary to get a humidor to keep my cigar? How much a average humidor cost around? What temperature and humidity for the cigar to be in good condition? I going to travel this july, do duty free shop in changi airport sell cigars? Which cigar is good for a beginner to try first. I really hope you guys can guide me along and share with me some info. Thank you for your time in reading this. Cheers!

Haha got to go thru 80 over pages of reply. Well i am still reading 20 something pages only 60 more to go. Anyway just one simple question do duty free shop in airport sell cigar? How bout hong kong? Throttle, you seems to travel to hong kong a lot huh? Is the cigar price higher in hong kong than here?

Posted

Duty Free cigars in Singapore are cheaper than in HK duty free.

The selection is also wider in Singapore.

However, for non duty free cigars, Hongkong prices are very competitive.

Best prices for cigars duty free are at Dubai Airport.

I prefer RYJ than monte no.4 Any other not so expensive and good for beginner to try? Don't want to waste a good cigar for beginner like me haha. Anyway hope to join you all for some cigar session. Thanks
