Date : 07/08/2010

Time : From 615am to 715pm

Places : Jurong west ---> woodlands ---> tuas ---> ayer keroh ---> 30km extra up north(took wrong route) ---> ayer keroh ---> tuas ---> woodlands ---> jurong west

Participants : Me n my gf. We took turns to ride, but 7/8 of the journey was covered by me

Weather : We set off even before the sun set. And we could see lightning otw to tuas frm wdls. After tuas, halfway SUPER HEAVY rain that affected our visibility n we had to stop for one hour. The remaining journey was really a nice weather to ride. Not sunny but cloudy & breezy all the way :) :thumb: Only con was that it was very windy and the bike tend to wobble a lot at times.

Traffic : Generally smooth. No jam at all for bikes both to and fro. But cars were having heavy jam in the morning. Many sg vehicles(cars & bikes) gg up north. We were riding on road shoulder on NSH, and whenever big trailers passed, we had to slow down.

It all started well and within one hour of the start, it started to pour heavily... We wore raincoats but it was futile because our visibility was affected badly. We had no choice but to stop. We took shelter for around one hour. After which we continued the journey. From then on the weather was fine all the way :) Cloudy & windy but it was good as it wasnt hot. Really nice weather to ride :)

We even saw condensed dew while approaching this small hill that we decided to stop and take pic there and then. Not everyday we get to see such wonders of the nature :p That was at around 1035am.

Had our pit stop at Machap R&R for late breakfast at around 11.28am. While otw to this R&R, we saw this fellow sg rider riding blackbird stopping by the road shoulder... After we rode past him he started to follow us and signalled us to stop. He then asked if we saw harley & few other bikes went past us. It seemed he was separated from his group when either one of us had a stop. We told him we were not sure.

Surprisingly, we met him n his grp of riders at the R&R we stopped for breakfast. It was nice to see fellow sg riders all having the same passion ..passion for riding & touring. Had a small chat before me & my gf went up to eat at one of the food court. It was indeed refreshing after eating and drying ourselves. In fact i was still shivering and my hands were numb since my gloves were already wet after being caught in the rain.

After our breakfast, we rode over to the shell nearby. Thats were we saw many other sg bikes. Ducati 1098, busa and so on. It was really nice to see all the big bikes there :) They were all pumping petrol + resting as well i guess.

After pumping petrol at shell, we moved off @ 1155am, and reached ayer keroh RR @1pm. Had our lunch @ around 120pm @ A&W.

Moved off @ 215pm from there. And this when some confusion took place. We planned to u turn at ayer keroh to go back towards spore. Ended up, with all the confusing road turns there , we started riding towards KL. We both didnt realise till we rode 30km or so for around 1hour when we suddenly saw a signboard mentioning KL and thats when we realised we r going towards KL n not spore. Haha. Ayer keroh RR is like eatery shops and other miscellaneous shops all built on a overhead bridge across the expressway. Which means u can access it from both sides, maybe thats why we got a bit confused. Anyway, nothing to lose becoz we still enjoyed our ride :)

Once we made a uturn at one of the places, we started getting tired as we had to ride back another 30km towards ayer keroh again. WE were so happy when we saw this signboard finally...

After passing ayer keroh, we reached a caltex at around 3pm wher we pumped petrol, since the tank was getting empty. We set off again around 315pm from there. This time my pillion took over the bike n rode for around 1 hour till we reached another R&R where we stopped for coffee at around 415pm. For the one hour, the pillion rode the bike at 100km/hr

My cruising speed was actually 80-90km/hr to & 90-100km/hr fro.

After pumping petrol at the esso near the R&R, we continued again at around 445pm and we finally reached a shell where we pumped petrol for one last time for the trip.

We reached this shell at around 545pm Had a mini bike wash session there as well. The bike was very sandy though. Guess the rainwater earlier, splashing all the sand and stuff. After that we just set off to checkpt.

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm286/ladyrider7/545pm.jpg

Around 625pm, otw to the checkpt, we saw a heavy jam at the other side due an accident...Their jam stretched for more than 2km or so...

While otw to the last toll, she saw this "monster" bus & got excited. She calls it "monster" bus becoz if u look closely can see the two back glass windows as the eyes & the number plate as the mouth & it looks like its grinning at u.. actually u can see lotsa such buses while otw to KL..these r tour buses.. diff buses got diff faces.. sum look like smiley faces & sum look fierce.. haha.

WE reached our last toll for the day at around 648pm.

Finally around 7km or so and we finally reached the checkpt & finally home sweet home after sending my pillion back to woodlands :shy:

Summary :

The trip was an eye opening experience for the both of us. It was my 3rd trip out of sg using a bike. For her its the first. So she seemed to be more excited than me :cheeky:

As riders, it tested our will power to ride. Its not easy to ride long distance using a small bike. Yeah, anyone can twist the trottle, but it takes more than that. Especially when the weather is not in favour or when you took the wrong route, u need lots of patience to go on. It also tests our strength as a couple to cooperate with each other and be patient and understanding towards each other. When one is blur, the other one must help and so on. When one makes mistake, the other must forgive & give in. Just like how riders help each other on the road & be accomodating towards each other.

When we first got caught in the heavy rain and started to shiver, we even tot of going back. That was within out first two hours of the journey. But we told ourselves not to give up and give it a try. Not everyday is a rainy day.. :p

We were further motivated when we saw so many riders(esp sg riders) making their way up north.

Just remember to pay attention on the road when u r riding in a foreign country, esp the signboards. Always look out for other vehicles becoz there r all kinda drivers out there. Pay attention to ur petrol quantity as well becoz for small bikes, it tend to finish faster. I used to get 200+km for one full tank. But for this trip i only got around 180km or so. Factors like windy weather, pillion & all comes into picture.

Be equipped with raincoat at all times. Weather is very unpredictable. Make sure the bike is prepared for long distance as well. Always be prepared to travel extra, in case u took the wrong route like us.

Other than that, ride for passion and ride safely... Big or small, any bike can go the extra mile if u want it to happen. Live to ride.

We are already planning for our next trip very soon.

One thing for sure, once u start going for such trips, u will surely wanna go again and again and again... :):thumb:

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.
