hi bro,

actually i just got back from Platform today ( Vietnam) after abt 3 weeks stay there. I have many times experience stay on platform liao, but usually 1-3 weeks stay.

1st, got to see if the platform is floating, archored or fixed.

floating 1 more shakly, if you will suffer from seasick, better bring some motion sickness med. dont worry, there will be a medi on board

dont bring large trolley lagguage bag. if you have many things to bring. try to break down to 2 sling log bags.

no Hp/no network ( usually platform have certain phone that you can call back to s'pore) check with the ppl there.

life on platform are rather boring. need to wake up early early in the morning at abt 6 - 7 am. work 12 hrs daily and everyday, sometimes will require you do do extra long hours, depends on what your job scope.

so bring a laptop and install game/song or bring some book to read. some platform will provide internet port in the cabin, so bring a Ethernet cable / universal plug for power socket connection.

depends on where the platform is constructed, the power socket can be in many funny design.

try to get to know the ppl, especially the camp boss :cheeky: :hungry:

maybe you can bring some moisture cream to apply your skin because if you stay all days in air-con room, skin will be very dry.

bring your own PPE eg, helmet, overall (bright colour like orange, red, yellow), safety shoes, goggle and helmet)

slippper ( slipper got to depend on platform rules, some need to wear cover toes shoes at all time)

shorts, t-shirt, thin sweater ( in case you scare cold), small towel for gym

dont need to bring towel, usually will be provided by them.

bring own shampoo, soap.. etc

bring a small lock in case you will be issue a locker

if you stay for 1 month, got to check if the country you going need any VISA.

some country dont need VISA if stay less then 30 days

lastly, earplugs for boarding helicopter. :thumb:

hmm, at the moment think that all.

what your occupation? going to which platform at which country

A second of precaution is an hour of safety. It never hurts to ask.

wa you manage to get a onboard job ar?

pay damn nice right :cheer:

:goodluck:

ya, good paid but kinda boring

basically you need to leave your family, gf, friends for the period of time.

when they need helps, quite hard to contact you unless you call them frequently.

especially after the typhoon DURIAN strike at Vietnam ( Vung Tau) the vietnamess on board still need to carry on their duty. but that the time when their family need their helps they cant be with them.

feel sorry for them

the damage quite bad when i got back onshore from platfrom today.

many houses damages, trees up-rooted. :weep:

either 1 of the good guy "lent" you his login a/c or need to apply. check with them.

since its a training, so not much stress liao. enjoy your stay.

If i am not mistaken, DD2 is a jack-up? For jack-up, u need not worry cos everything is there in the LQ.

kinda reminds me of the inside of an airplane. abit claustrophobic, but overall, nice feel. the key apptment holders were very nice too! n all of them say the food is nice..

Ha..ha..Living Quarters...accomodation with all things in...simply a jack-up you need not worry about staying but more on your work schedule during drilling. DD3 was out around Sept 06....very freshly built.

Jack-up very small mah..you can run thru everywhere in short period of time...but not in semi. Somehow, very interesting place to work. Good luck.
