Hi, everyone. Need some help here.... Maybe those Bros that have ridden an XR400 before could help me. I've stop ridding for 14 yrs, & decided to come back and get an everyday plus a little fun bike.

The XR had been one of my favourite ride. But, some of my younger friends advised me not to get 1, reason - engine get over heat easily, Honda stop production for a reason lah... hard to get spare parts lah....blah blah blah.... :sian: How true is it? Of course, I've heard positive side of the bike too. I understand is an old bike, & really like it a lot. But, on the other hand, I'm afraid it may become a problem bike for me in the future.

Any good or bad comments will be much appreciated.:) Thanks for your time & feedback.

XR400s are still going strong. Of course most are more than 10 years old, but there are still examples in good condition.

Yes, Honda has stopped production. BUT, it has been in production essentially unchanged from 1996 to 2006. If this is not an indication of popularity, I don't know what is.

Properly jetted, it starts easily. With basic simple maintenance, it lasts forever. Of course, being an air-cooled bike, you cannot expect to sit in a traffic jam whole day long and expect it not to overheat. I have 3 XRs (1 400 and 2 250s) and ride them all the time. Old school? Yes. Not bling bling compared to Euro bikes? Yes. But who cares.

Spare parts are easily available. Not sure where your sources get their information from.

Manufacturers are moving towards high performance high maintenance race ready bikes. That shiny new KTM 530 will not take the same amount of abuse an XR can without costing an arm and a leg. Grab one before they are all relegated to the scrap yard.

THANK YOU..ulysses_sc. Your info is of great help. Yes, I like the old school look rather than those bling bling orange ones... the rectangle headlights & the tall tank! The XR4 is like a 400cc - 'RXK'. Fuel consumption is 20 -22 per L, I guess.... :btw: my friend who told me the 'sources' ride those orange bike.... :slapforehead: Appreciated yr help Bro... I think I know my choice already...:angel:

Read this thread carefully if you do intend to start shopping for an XR4. It will save you a lot of grief.

I have a 1996 XR250L, and a 1997 XR250R (the one that looks like XR400).

Cool man. im pretty sure there arent many xr250s on the roads. How's the FC? and is there much difference in terms of power when compared to XR400?

Not so sure about fuel consumption, as I use my 250s mainly for trails. For the 250L, think I get about 25km/L.

The 250 is lighter than the 400, but with less power. For road use, I prefer the 400. But being a totally novice rider off-road, the light weight and mild power delivery of the 250 is perfect.

Is good to heard that ppl still like this bike.... IMO quite a simple maintenance bike for a 400cc.... Not sure for the 250s. Good luck in finding one. :)
