They really don't make them like they used to.

Wonder what will happen if they bring back the 70's style of training that I had as recruit.... wonder how many will survive.

And National Service has been around for years... everyone goes through it... so what's with the whining and moaning? Its not like you are the only one penalised to do NS.

Like I always tell the NS boys that come to me for training... your life is what you want to make of it... you shape your own destiny.

i tink ns regardless of rank, vocation and appointment, people either grow stronger mentally/physically, or they get worse. either you learn to do things onces and do it well, or u will forever be escaping what you should do.

At times becos, we see loafers around and why we always kena all those work... tat's why eventually some don't bother to do also... when comes to work u'll see some not in sight, come to credit they would pop out... quite a funny scene in NS lor. As I start to work in the society, my colleague told me many just work for themselves not for the sake of the company, which in turn creates some problem for the company. As times goes we eventually forgotten what's our role...

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

Nah. I tend to think that unless you've decided to sign on, life begins after you've left NS.

That's why employers refer to it as NS liabilities. That word alone describes it all for us on a personal level.

NS is also to allow Singaporeans to have the chance to experience/understand more anout your fellow countrymen regardless of where they stand.

Hopefully, this helps to enhance the effectiveness of our goal towards a one hearted multi race and religion too.

I learnt a lot of skills in NS which i nw stil faithfully apply.

Eat snake: Sometimes work can b borin. Painfully borin. So in order to maintain my mental health as an productive worker, i resorted to eatin snake.

Sleepin anywhere, anytime: Company's storeroom. CEO's washroom. Under the meeting room's table. Seated or standing. Anywhere, anytime. No ques asked.

Buy weekend duties to earn extra $: Colleagues dun wan to burn his weekend on OT. He sell n go enjoy his weekend. I buy, count my cash n apply eat snake skill.

Avoid arrows: Before my manager can ask for a volunteer to tackle a fussy customer, i siam to the toilet n hide in the cubicle til the coast is clear. If he knocks n asked for me, i say i lao sai.

Dazed while listening to the boring 1st n last parade roll calls: Urgh! Those repeitive neverending AGMs, sales meetings... U get the drift.

Learnt to strip out of my uniform in record time: Wo ho! Gf stayin over at my hse tonite. Do i even need to say more?

There is pros and cons, but i feel that the ranking system is the biggest problem.

To add on, I agree.

Also the leadership selection program is somewhat questionable.

Just because someone is good at studying doesn't naturally equate them to being good leaders...

spare the rod, spoil the child. i think ever since they cracked down on those trainers "flouting" TSR, NSF in general has become more of a school camp full of whiny kids who run to complain to their parents if they so much as feel a tiny muscle strain
