i see many ppl selling due to enlisting in NS. is it really so bad like when after enlisted, u don get to ride at all? i don really know how the ns system works. but im graduating poly coming april (i think) and shud be enlisting ns not long after that.. still taking my 2b lessons but i think i can get my license by dec.

so question is.. should i still get a bike? :sian:

There is no guarantee you'll get into the Sept-batch, unless you're one of the lucky few (I wasn't, grad april waiting for intake in Nov).

Don't see why we can't ride after enlisting. BMT can't ride to/fro camp but after that I hear all you need to do is take the Defensive Riding Module/Prog and wah-lah~

My other friends who're already in BMT (popping soon), seem perfectly free during their weekends, plenty of time to ride unless you're determined on earning confinement points.

On the subject of "should you still get a bike", there is no definite answer. As many other forumers will-or-will have pointed out, you've got to work out your own subjective pros & cons along with budget/sustainability.

hey dude wonderless, im also in your predicament, but the difference between you and me is that i have already made my choice, and that is to get a bike, i graduated this year, and up till now i still haven't got my enlistment letter yet, called cmpb but they were not of any help, they said to wait for the letter which will be due two months before my enlistment date, so since cmpb is not telling me what i want to hear, i might as well enjoy whatever time i have left, and hopefully clear tp on the 11th of nov, on my first attempt. =)

if your bike ain't dirty, your not riding it enough

oh. so i believe even after enlisting, still can have lots of time to ride a bike. jus that there are countless ppl selling their bike due to army and it leaves me in doubts :help:

personally i've served NS already and ORDed last year and it really really depends on your unit after you guys get out of BMT. assuming my data isnt outdated and you guys get into Tekong, then for that period of time the only time you'll be seeing your bike is really when you guys book out on weekends. i doubt theres anywhere near the ferry terminal where u guys can park ur bike anyway so effectively for that period of time of BMT, i think u pretty much wun be seeing ur bike often considering u only come out for 1-2 days a week.

after BMT, the whole story changes. if u suay suay or garang end up in command school or some super xiong unit with not much welfare for trainees, it is not really guaranteed that you can ride into camp. trainees are basically the lowest lifeforms and not granted much privileges. so if thats the line u end up taking, honestly it might take a while till u get the go-ahead to ride into camp. alternatively if you happen to end up somewhere more slack and best if stay-out, then ok la having a bike would actually be useful.

People sell off their bikes mainly because they are paying half of their pay on installments for something they only use a few times a month.

My advice? Get a bike. The benefits are great. You will appreciate having more time to stay at home and no problem if you are posted to ulu camps like Gedong. However, get a cheap and low maintenance one. Pay full cash now if possible so you don't have to worry about installments.

if u are 8-5 and yr camp is in some far end

then u will appreciate the bike

but if u stay in , then i see no point ..

Take your 2B, pass first then wait for your vocation. If your vocation is stay in, don't get a bike. If your vocation is everyday can go home, then its better to get a bike. My advice to you.

Why stay-in no point to ride bike? Surely there be night's off given what. And what if your camp is gedong but stay at pasir ris, you still wanna take bus? LOL

Last time I was stay-in personnel, I was glad I had my bike. Y? Made it so much easier to illegal stay-out. Dun wanna wish to dwell further but damn good to book in @ 0530 instead of 2359 hahaha..

My advice juz get a cheap bike.. lokok also nvm, as long can move and no installments...
