Hi, need some recommendation for riding jackets from you guys.

What function i'm actually looking at ?!

  • Some minimum protection for elbow, shoulder and back
  • Able to withstand light shower
  • Breatheable (as we all know, SG 'sso hot)
  • Affordable (Around $150 range ?)
  • Durable

I hear mesh jacket are the more cooling one as compare to the other material

Are the material tough ?!

Am actually looking at Rjays Octane Series.

Does it fits the requirement that i'm actually looking at ?!|

Or is there some other jackets, you guys would recommend ?

Thanks in advance. :cheeky:

after scanning thru all your criteria points, i personally will point you to Komine mesh jacket. a good basic entry lvl jacket at $150 and below... my friend just bought one from motoworld recently... he got this after finding out Rjays octane price is above $200 at regina...

comes with back, shoulder and elbow armour.

Thanks for the recommendation ahcai.

But may i ask which model did your friend get ?

I know there's actually a few different model for the Komine Light Mesh Jacket.

Are the armour, soft or hard armour ?

If possible, can ask your friend provide some feedback/review for that jacket ?

Thanks alot.

Got myself a Komine JK-002 Air Stream Mesh Jacket from motoworld @ 170 couple of weeks back.

Been using it every time I ride.

Comes with Soft-foam back padding & CE Shoulders+Elbow-arm hard armour (All removeable). Theres also a slot for an additional chest-protector should you wish to buy one & slot one in.

Thus far have yet to ride in a downpour so no comments on that. Light drizzle should be okay but light shower I think you'll get wet.

Very cooling where the mesh is located at (chest & arms). Heat zones are around the under-regions of the arm & armpit but riding to work in the morning doesnt result in too much sweat (for now).

It does get kinda stuffy if you are immobile though but with sg's lovely humidity & weather, rather expected.

Btw ride home from work results in me sweating a tad as does city stop-go traffic, have not tried other jackets nor ridden bare so my opinion should be taken subjectively. Acceptable for my limited commute. My sweating can also be attributed to nervous-cautious state, have been reminding myself to loosen up though, helps a bit =P.

+1 for Komine jackets. I just retired one after about 5 years of use (& abuse!). It's saved my skin a few times, and I figured it was time to give it some rest :D

Comparing various brands for the replacement, I didn't find anything that matched up to Komine in an overall balance of quality, comfort & price. The model I had (and wanted to get again) has been discontinued, so I couldn't get my size and had to go for a newer model. I did get chatting with another gentleman while at Motoworld (Kaki Bukit) and he bought that model on my recommendation. Here's a shout out to you if you're reading this, bro - hope you're liking the jacket :D

I ended up buying a JK-005 Orca (http://www.komine.ac/products.php?function=detail&product_id=506&category_id=2) for $135 (after 10% discount). It comes with hard armour on the shoulders & elbows, and soft armour on the back (which I replaced with the hard armour from my old jacket). This model does not have the option to attach a chest protector or a waterproof liner, but some of the other models do. My experience of the liner (from my old model) is that it will save you from a very light shower only, and is not a raincoat substitute by any means. The downside of the new model is that one long panel (goes up the back of the arm, behind the shoulders and down the other arm) is made of a solid piece rather than mesh. This affects ventilation somewhat, especially in the arms. I am actually considering making a few small holes in this piece to let warm air escape...

Personally I prefer to go for breathability & protection, and keep a raincoat under my seat for when it rains. If waterproofing is your priority, you will certainly lose out on breathability & comfort. That's my 2c worth anyway. Head down to Motoworld and check out the Komine range, you might find what you're looking for. Good luck!

yes. Komine gears are good and more in the affordable range, with TS's budget of $150, you wont go wrong with Komine...

i will still think RS Taichi gears are better in terms of quality and aesthetics, i own a RSJ226 intention jacket. love it! this is just my personal opinion though.

RS taichi also tend to be more costlier than Komine...

Hi, i MIGHT be selling off my Rjays Swift Jacket. Sorry if i hijack your thread to sell off my jacket.

Personally, i find that it fits all the criteria that u describe above:

* Some minimum protection for elbow, shoulder and back (Have, but soft armour)

* Able to withstand light shower (No problem, but if heavy rain, zip in the inner waterproof liner and u are 100% dry. Tried and tested, it works)

* Breatheable (as we all know, SG 'sso hot) (Since its mesh, its basically like SINGLET like that. I practically wear it everyday since the day i bought, even in the hot afternoon sun. If i was sweating in it, it was because the day is hot and i would be sweating even without wearing it)

* Affordable (Around $150 range ?) (Retail price was exactly $150)

* Durable (Build quality looks good, cant comment on its long term use, been only using it for 1 week plus on a daily basis)

Its a great entry level mesh jacket IMO. and since it comes with a 100% waterproof/windproof liner, its like paying 2 jackets for the price of 1. Heck, i put on the liner when watching movies in the cinema to keep me warm. :D

Well thats my review for the jacket.

PM me if ur interested in mine. Selling mine away cos its a bit big. Prefer something a bit more snug fit. Will confirm if i'm selling my jacket if i secure another jacket by tonight.

Anyway, happy jacket hunting bro!

I'm in the market to get a riding jacket, both for local and over sea trips...

Has considered a few brands and models, 1st on my list would the locally marketed Air bag jacket. The asking price is appox $280 for the mesh model, comes with elbow and back soft armour...

I've ever been hit by car and resulted in serious injury.... Thus, currently looking into the here mention Airbag Jacket.. Any one interested I getting one with me?:thumb:

is just a daily riding jacket for me:)

the reason i choose Rjay octane over komine jk-003 is

1. visibility

rjays octane is all black(althought got a few colour, blue, grey, red.silver,i only see black at regina.....) while komine got red/blue/black/silver.(i bought silver),and the silver part is 70%,black 30%

2.komine is lighter than rjay(maybe Rjay got more small padding)

3.komine's forearm area got a better tie down compare to rjays.(tested both at showroom)

4.optional parts for komine- rear protector (never ask the price)chest guard 35sgd/side wiast padding18sgd(just bought these 1 hrs ago)

advantage of rjays octane

1.rjay octane come with inner liner but i rather put on a rain coat than wearing a inner liner.

2.it comes with more small padding

http://www.rjays.com.au/home/media/pics/RJ_AD054_Octane%20Jacket%20.jpg

3.got 4 pocket at the front(komine only got 2)....

price range.

rjays octane,180-200 at regina.

komine,140-150 at MW.

I'm curious that @tonychan and @mmkbad managed to get Rjays jackets at Regina - I went there a couple of times and they didn't seem to have any in stock... I know I've seen Rjays gear there before, but this time all I could find was this other brand called 'Seven 86' or something. Maybe I was looking in the wrong places o_O

i never get the rjays.i only went there to tried the jacket.

just ask them to show you.

the seven 86 is the "same" as rjay octane at the price of 120sgd.

if brand is not a matter to you, just get seven 86.

Yeah, I went to try also... but they didn't seem to have any. All Rjays were "no stock". Not keen on trying a completely unknown brand - it's safety gear after all, and I'd rather spend $20-30 more on a Komine/Rjays. Anyway, bought my Komine already, hopefully won't need to replace for the next 3-4 years... fingers crossed! :D

i was shopping for a mesh jacket with some armour a while back & found that komine's had elbow/shoulder armour that cover a greater proportion of the respective body parts as compared to several other brands - you might want to try them all on to see how they feel before deciding

Yes, I bought a Komine from motoworld too. It looks like a Dainese model too.....at a fraction of the price with similar protection. Hahaha....been wearing it for close to 6 months now and its still pretty sturdy with afew washes.
