Yeh YBR rider here too . Regarding the chain , i personally feel the original chain slacks often , so in the end changed to DID chain .

Then no more problems?

hi, upgrader to YBR here too  anything that saves $$ is upgrade ! :cheeky:

Personally I find this bike sensitive to RPM at gear changes, so peeps do tighten yr clutch cables !

Other mods to improve performance are maybe sportier rims & tyres, sprocket change as earlier suggested especially since this bike lacks top speed. Power / acceleration is reasonable as I think the gearing is quite close, needs a 6th gear though i think for highways :giddy:

Anybody know any mech shop 'specialise' in modding YBRs ?? do share THKS !

yo ybr riderz...i haf been riding this bike for almost a yr but i am still clueless on how to maintain dis bike...can anyone give me tips...plz

Hi, besides all the many tips already listed above by other friendly forumers;

1) Always kick-start this bike for first time of the day, preserves the battery much longer

2) Never lugg (too low revs at higher gear) the engine as I heard the con-rod and bearings cannot take it

3) Crankshaft & gearbox is sensitive to gear changes .. right RPM & clutch control :cheeky:

4) Try to waterjet the bellypan, underside and swingarm pivots ... gets very heavy there with dirt (if bellypan dirt gets too thick, may even affect oil cooling ??)

5) The crankcase breather hole into the airbox condenses oil into a little rubber cup below I think... can re-use it to coat the air filter.

5) Finally, for air cooled engines, pls slow down at the final part of the journey before reaching. Dont race there then immed shut engine off at high temp, will affect the cooling & thus lifetime of parts :giddy:

hello... need some help in technical areas here... having some problem w my baby...

Monday, brought the bike for servicing...

1. carburetor cleaned - 2nd cleaning since i took over the bike in early april

2. spark plug changed - after 2 months

3. engine oil changed - after 2 months (using mobil 1; fully synthetic)

4. filter changed - 1st time changed since i took over the bike in early april

5. chain oiled

it went fine until saturday night. before riding off, warmed up the bike for about 1 min or so. intended to go JB but after riding 2 junctions, engine stalled. couldnt start. electric start failed. kick start failed. thr's this other biker who asked to pull the choke and start. did that. bike started but rpm indicator was at 4! very noisy. close the choke, engine stalled again.

frens came to help. some say spark plug, some say timing, some say carburetor... after much attempts, turns out to be, fuel switch was at ON where it shd have been at RESERVE, coz fuel was at the 1/4 mark.

-.-

after refuelling, seems ok.

Sunday, rpm (timing) seems to be out. its slightly below 1 - between 0 and 1. usually, its set at abt 1.2

now, it stalls wen at neutral or wen gear 1 engaged - wen moving off. increased the timing.. back to 1.2 but it feels rough.. not as smooth as on Monday, Tuesday .... till Friday.

HELP!!

pls advise....!!

I believe it should be carb. tunning. maybe when the service centre wash the carb, he accidently turn the tunning 'knob'. one of the reason your bike stall when moving off or at neutral is cost not enough fuel inject. must do tunning again..

or....

your bike went thru any heavy rain before? or ride pass a puddle of water

and the water splash to your engine?

wat u can do, is remove the small knob below your carb and drain out the petrol a bit.. scare got water inside your carb.

one more thing if u gonna drain out the petrol a bit from the carb, do put your finger and feel izzit water or petrol...

:? ok... thx.. will go find wer this knob is... but, since the last servicing.. have not gone thru rain.. hmm... :?

worse comes to worse... will bring it back to the workshop.

Hi,

I just bought this bike used and there is no owners manual. Also, after 30,000km the previous owner doesn't know where the air filter is and of course has never replace it. Any ideas? Thanks.

hi, the airbox is located under the right panel after the fuel tank. the air filter should be a square sponge and a paper filter set. The sponge can be rinsed in warm soapy water but the paper set gotta change. However I also just rinse & scrub it with small soft toothbrush. Important to keep airbox clean as this bike runs rich and if not enough air will foul yr engine.

For above previous posts re the frequent stalling & hard starts, it is becos either 1) not enough petrol thru the idle circuit (pilot jet), or 2) not enough air thru the air screw (located under the carb front). For no 1: just start with choke and turn it off after about 10 secs, then hold open throttle slightly to about 2000 rpm for about 2 mins to warm up. For no 2: open the air screw (anti-clockwise) about quarter turn. Dont open too much or will cause lean condition when hot (indicated by high idle speed >1500 rpm after long journey). This bike idle speed should be about 1400rpm fully hot :)

I've changed my battery 3 times in 3 years. One year seems an awful short time for a battery. How long does your battery last?

Mine is a $30-35 dry battery.
