I dont see a lot of Honda 2B scooter such as Pantheon 150 and Dylan 150 in Singapore. BUt Boon Siew is still selling.

I do see a number of Honda scooter, namely Dylan150, Pantheon 150 and Spacy 125 in Vietnam from my last trip. Seems that 2B Jap scooter is not so popular in Singapore. One thing you may not know, a Dylan 150 in Vietnam can easily cost you $11000 Sing dollars!! But there are still Vietnamese buying them. The high price tag is due to the 100% tax imposed on scooter by government.

That make me wonder why there is not many 2B Jap scooters in Singapore. No spare parts? No power? Too exp for a 2B bike? ... Hmm..

July 2004 to Nov 2006 X9 amalfi

Dec 2015 to Oct 2017 Toyota ISIS

Feb 2017 to May 2017 Honda ST1300

Jun 2017 onwards Honda Silverwing 400

ya...125cc and 150cc scooters used to be very popular until the Italians churn out the 200cc.

But come to think of it, Skipper and Hexagon are the 2 models that sort of revolutionise scooter markets here.

First one was the *80cc Sfera which I like as well.

At that time there was Yamaha Riva 125 and a Taiwan made Yamaha *150cc "Ying Kwang". Both autos.

Before all this, there was the Honda Spacy with the flip headlights. :D

Sfera  brings back fond memories 14 years ago when I bought the 1st batch that were shipped to Singapore. There were other alternatives (slightly bigger cc that is within class 2B category) that edwin had mentioned by the Japs but my heart was set on the Piaggio Sfera bcos of it is different from the japs counterpart in terms of design.

Of cos the maintenance of Piaggio scoots is higher than japs scoots but it is compensated by the sheer joy of riding a european scoot

Its like everyone knows driving a european car is more expensive than driving a jap or korean car but we still see the numbers of european car on the road. That goes the same with scooters

Pros

1) Piaggio 2B scoots have the POWER for the limited CC that they have.

2) Space is great.

3) Styling is great.

4) Comfort is SO-SO. The designers totally forgotten about the pillion and their feet.

5) Spares are easily available

6) Good support from Piaggio Singapore

7) Good look

8) Have a custom rear box design that fits very well with the bike.

9) Engine is pretty strong even for long usage.

Cons

1) Cost of spares.

2) Extremely fast, in fact ridiculously fast parts wear and tear.

3) Things that are RARELY give way in other bikes will give way in the scoot.

4) Resale value drop like hell after you buy.

5) High sitting posture for pillion ( a bit subjective). My pillion feel very scared when I corner even I do it slow.

6) Needs to do a lot of water proofing for some items, I guess most of us know what they are..

Pros :

Big fuel tank with good fuel consumption = Good mileage

Posted

Below information are based on my own personal view.

Pro:

1) Good Torque

2) Responsive engine

3) High Endurance engine

4) Rigit Body frame

5) Huge under seat storage space

6) Huge stylish OEM box

7) Cigerette charger port

8) Dual front disc w/ Brembo brake caliper

9) Great comfort for rider/pillion (All thumbs up from all my pillion)

10)big fuel tank + low comsumption = Good travel range

11)Modifcation potential

12)Good Original paintwork

13)Acurrate Speedometer

14)Great Sprinter despite the weight and CC.

15)Great weather/environment protection

16)Tall seat height

17)Stable handling at any given speed.

18)Highly Illuminated scooter

19)No problem on water seeping into fuel tank

Con:

1) Weight

2) Wide Turning Radius

3) Poor rear shock damping

4) Rectifier / magnetic coil problem

5) Brake Pump Problem

6) Rusty exhuast

7) Expensive spare part

8) Easily short circuit

9) Weak water proofing

10)Water pump problem

11)Poor matt fairing that whiten easily.

12)Battery K.O = Tow Truck Hello

13)Free cruise control when raining or after bike wash. (Stucky throttle)

14)Poor resale Value

15)Expensive First hand Price

16)React heavily to cross wind

17)Key lost = a lot problem/money

The more I think of it, the more I hate you.

frankly, in class 2B scooter range, there are not 1 tat come close to X9 Evo just yet...with the elegant look, signal mirror, huge under seat storage space plus it had proven record tat it went places even up to Thailand.

Downside is maintainances and spares, but is an italia scoot, wat can u say.

With every good wishes

Bring it on Piaggio!

The X9 is in a class of its own. It's either you like it or loathe it. As for me, I returned to this saddle because I miss the luggage space, ride comfort and the fuel economy. You do pay premium but in the end, one man's meat may be another man's poison......

Food for thought.......

My verdict - Thumbs Up for the X9! :thumb:

well durable, i guess Piaggio is working hard at it.

Check X8 and MP3s, they, in my opinion have improved quite a bit.

I guess the only thing thats the least of concern is the looks...

beauty is always in the Italian's piority

until now, frankly speaking, X9 EVO is still the best looking scooter in terms of looks.

Cost generally of the italian scooters and of spares are quite inevitable.

Never will a European car be cheaper then a Japanese...the fact applies to the motorbike world too.

It is really a comfort bike for a big fellow likw myself.

Comparing to the long list of bikes I have owned before.

Big storage space, i have forgotten the days which I have to carry helmet and shopping bags around

But really a heavy 2 B bike to push around...

Expensive bike considering just maintenance repair.

Since got the bike 2 months back already spend $600 over to replaced tear and wear parts..excluding tyre, belt and rollers.

can pay 3 times my monthly installament already.

Engine mounting, steering cone bearing brake pads, top overhaul, brakelights..etc

Lets see next month wat is required to change some more.

Water pump, coil, battery...etc...

Bike spending more than my monthly meal allowance....

No wonder ppl change bike after 2~3 years..all problems started to come...

In return ...comfort, storage space better looking ride compare to my ex wave 125

At least it look safe and feel more safe to my Mrs who allow me to continue riding. :cheeky:

well most of the people already stated it's pro and cons, but with the performance that we are getting from our X9 the wear out rate is definitely faster than any other kind.

but if we do maintainence regularly you will not need to spend too much on the bike unless you have some accident or you drop your bike the mirror brole.I hope that they will continue selling the X9 evo series, but maybe do some changes to for example is there any thing that can be done to reduce the wear and tear rate.

no active trips since 2006

There are 2 ways of looking at the mirrors...

yes its expensive but very good looking.

If X9 EVO will have to lose the mirror and got replaced by the normal plastics mirrors, (like what we see now at the X8 200 and the 400) or the metallic stick mirror (on MP3 and the vespas), you might not like this scooter at all.

I would definately hope there will be an X9 or even a similar maxi scooter in the 200cc category cus this market, this category is missing...and the demand for it should be the 2nd highest among Class 2B holders whom are looking for a scooter (The 1st is no doubt the Runner).

A perfect (my personal defination) class 2B maxi scooter is something made up of these.....

1. X9 EVO front

2. X8 Storage with the back flip-up boot

3. with X9 top box with integrated racks to accomodate the flip-up boot

4. an X9 Evo seat (must have!)

5. a meter like MP3 but should have the feature of what the X9 have

(ie max speed counters, temp, avg speed counters etc etc)

6. meter never never on the handle bar again (Which Piaggio has improved)

7. brembos (we love it!)

8. Parking brakes (The Japs have it and we love it too!)

9. Wider footrest for the pillion

This is what I personally felt it will be a perfect maxi scooter.

Price is never a concern to me, not that I can afford or anything but I could accept that european makes are priced higher then the Japanese.

10. twin-cylinder engine

11. cushioned armrests and backrest (X9 Evo is using) on the integrated top box for pillion

I don't blame people who doesn't show courtesy, they just didn't get taught on how to do so.

I agree with you on the cushion, wifey standards has increase after the Cameron trip :faint:

but I dun really see a need for a 200cc twin (there isnt any in the market).

i only remember a 125 twin used on the Varadero. Did it bring a great difference to the power? Frankly I dunno cus I have never tried a long distance on a Vara 125. But considering a twin would bring down the etrol economy, I think a single should be well up to the job already!

Reckie, dun shoot me! my opinion only ;)
