Limewire Ceases Operations, Unable To Continue Admist 4-year Lawsuit

It seems 2010 is the year that heralds the falling of file-sharing services, owing to the fact that many record labels and motion picture associations are hot on their heels.

 

The latest to go is Limewire. This 10-year-old peer-to-peer service which lets users around the world share files and software with each other -- including pirated software, as so described -- through the Limewire software, has closed its doors, ceasing all aspects of its future operations. A court order in October 2010 for Limewire to cease operations has affected the company in such a way that even launching a legal music download service is difficult.
