Hi guys, I've been missing over the weekend again. Why? Coz I rode Bertha to KL again! muahahahahaha. Went to KL on Fri evening, and I just got back few hours ago, around midnite. Unpacked, wiped off all the dead insects and dirts on my windscreen and fairings, showered, and here I am at my laptop, typing this. Ahhh man, this is the kind of life I've always dreamt about. If only I'm rich enough, don't have to work tomorrow (err...technically, "later" since it's already 2am now).

This time, something funny happened to me. On Fri, after I cleared the custom checkpoint, I went to Petronas (right after the toll) to fill up my petrol tank. Once filled, I went in to pay up and bought myself a can of livita. Finished up my drink, and then make sure everything is tightened up, packed nicely in the panniers, and nothing that will shake or make any funny noise. Suddenly, a guy on a small bike stopped right beside me. The first thought I had was, somebody trying to rob me or what. I quickly stood up and look at him, want to show him I'm aware of his presence. Then he (a malay guy) asked...

Him: You Storm Rider uh?

Me: Err...sorry? Storm Rider?

Him: You dunno what is that uh? It's a motorcyle club. I used to be a member, used to ride with them. Now no more. I thought you are Storm Rider.

Me: Ohh..a club, i see. No lah, I'm not a member. I just ride alone.

Him: I used to own an RT also. Mine is 8 years old already. But it's parallel-import one. Even got heated-grip. Yours got uh?

Me: Err..no lah. Dun have. Mine is 6 years old. I just got this bike abt 1 mth plus only.

Him: Good lah, this bike can tour one. I went all the way to Thailand with my RT before. It's a good bike. Luckily no breakdown or anything, except my clutch cable snapped. But I got spare, so I fixed it myself. You want to go touring, make sure you got spare also. RT's clutch cable easily can snap one.

Me: Is it uh? Heh....I don't think I know how to fix anything yet lah. Now still trying to familiarise with riding on it.

Him: Never mind lah, once you ride it long enough, then you'll start to want to open up the fairing, fix things yourself.

Me: Haha, not yet lah.

Him: Where are you going?

Me: I'm going to KL.

Him: Alone uh?

Me: Yeah...

Him: Watch out uh, now got a lot of speed trap. Malaysian police simply "shoot" only.

("Shoot" - I think he meant the speed radar gun)

Me: Ok. I'm still new. I'll ride safe and keep to speed limit one lah.

Him: Good lah you wear your riding gear also. Must wear glove also uh.

Me: Got got, I got glove. Wear later. I zip up and tie up everything first.

(Since we've talked for quite a while, and he seems like a nice guy. I extended my hand and introduced myself.)

Me: By the way, I'm PingLong.

(And he shook my hand and introduced himself.)

Him: I'm Mohamad Nor.

Me: Mohamad Nor. Hi, nice to meet you. So now no longer ride at all?

Him: Now seldom lah. I park my bike at home here in Johor only and then take this small bike to SG to work everyday.

Me: I see....

Him: Last time I used to ride a lot one. A lot of ppl know me. Ah, if you go service your bike at PML, Mustafa also knows me.

Me: Is it?? Whoa...you must be very famous uh?

Him: You ask him lah, Mohamad Nor. Mohamad Nor, the TP.

Me: Err..TP? (show him my puzzled look, really puzzled, not pretending)

Him: Yeah, Traffic Police.

(*gulp, act cool)

Me: Oh..you're a Traffic Policeman in SG uh?

Him: Yeah. Ok lah, I'm going home now. You ride safely uh.

Me: Ok Ok. I will.....

Luckily in our conversation, before he introduced himself, I didn't try to brag to him abt how easy is it for me to speed on highway, commit any traffic offences or any other funny things. Hahaha.

Coincidentally, strom riders motorcycle club was also heading to KL for its AGM. So, i guess that's why he asked you if you were part of them. Yeap, it's nice to be carefree. That, I do not doubt. That's why I went ahead with getting this bike now, before more and more life-commitments start to pile up. My initial thought was to sell off the bike once I have kids after marriage or something. But now, I think I want to keep it for as long as I could. It's like an escape from your usual daily routine, work stress, family issues, etc. It's very very liberating. It's like I'm exercising a different part of my brain and the usual part of brain that i use get to rest for a while. I've never been happier in my life ever since I started riding.

come lah come lah. We shd all ride together one of these days. We start by meeting up this thurs, get to know each other first. :thumb:

I'm already thinking, maybe we should all ride into JB early Fri morning, go to Ah Soon bah kut teh for breakfast before you all come back to SG while I go back to my parents' place. haha. slowly lah, let's meet up this thurs and see.

Hmm..all this while I thought BMW RT is the ONLY bike I ever wanted. But now, keep hearing you all say GS lah, FJR lah, Varadero lah, seems like I have got to try them out in future. Whoa, this is one bloody expensive hobby man. hahahah.

Funny you guys seldom/never mention Honda STX1300 though.

This morning, when I start the bike, I noticed a funny 'ccchhhhrrrrrrrr' sound coming out of my bike. When I press the ignition button, my engine starts, and then can hear the sound briefly before it goes away. Damn, hope it's nothing serious. Anyway, already made an appt last week for servicing tomorrow.

Heh Heh Heh, 5000+ km since Nov 30th 04, I'm amazed with myself.

Hi Ping Long,

I think the "Chhhhrrrrr" sound is the pumping sound of the ABS pump. I was also quite puzzled when I heard the sound. Asked a techie friend, and he said its the same sound as the car's ABS. If u hear a sqeak when u start the bike. its the alternator belt. :thumb:

Next time, if I plan to ride to somewhere like East Coast or those places where people don't normally go to, then I'll announce it here to look for kakis lah.

In fact, I'm toying with the idea of pan-Malaysian tour. Go up thru east coast (Mersing-Kuantan-Terengganu-Kelantan), then cut thru to Penang, then come down thru west coast. It's a BIG project. But don't want to be to eager. I'll do a few more practice rides first. Then when I'm confident enough, maybe we can go together? Otherwise, if a newbie like me tag along with you guys, later you sien or what, right? I think need to take at least one-week leave for this kind of trip man. Anyway, see how lah. Don't want to be ambitious yet. Maybe just ride to Kuantan during CNY first. Maybe go a bit further to Terengganu. Then come back.

Hahaha, ok lah. Maybe just melaka or KL first. OK ok, next trip, see how. Eh, I join this forum hoping that I can join one of your trips since they're so many experienced riders here. Now end up me organizing??? hahahaha.

THe trunk rds at the east coast might be heavy with traffic... during the hols. :sian:

but its very fun.... :)

Guys.... its really not too difficult.... get the map and study it. Its really quite simple.

Maybe see any of u guys interested..... we find a time to come out for kopi and discuss?

Let us know, hope i can dump wife in Spore 4 a week to join you on such trip.

U r just too humble, u seem to know Malaysia more than most of us, be frank, i dont dare to travel East or West Coast alone, just scare & i alway lost in KL.:cheeky:

That's becoz I was born and bred in Malaysia. Because of my father's job, we move around every 4-5 years. And he was born in Terengganu. Before my grandma passed away, we used to travel there every year during CNY. So, that's how I know east coast of Malaysia pretty well. I've been thinking about riding there ever since I set my eye on an RT abt 2 years ago. All this while, we travel by car, my dad does all the driving. Until I got my driving license, then I get to drive as well. And now that I've finally got myself my dream bike, I'm just itching to travel there on my RT. But I always remind myself, I'm a new rider. Take it slow. Make several more short rides first. One day, I will make the trip. I aim to do it before the end of 2005...... On such a long trip, a company is most welcomed :thumb: I've yet to try riding in a group. Should be fun, won't be so...lonely. But give me more time to familiarise myself with my bike first, yeah? Don't think you want a travelling companion who panics and dunno what to do the moment something goes wrong. hahahah

I'm afraid I can't commit to anything right now lah coz I want to spend time with my family on CNY. But, I'll never know I might just do something different for CNY this year. hahahahaa. As we get nearer to CNY...then...we see how lah :thumb:

Cool man!!! I think secretly, they wanna join in the fun too..... only thing is biking here still seemed to be regarded as a "hooligan" sport by the general public, especially by the elders. Mindset will change as more ladies start riding and road behaviour starts improving...... things to look forward too:thumb:

Hahaha, so I m not alone, think your FJR panniers in good place after landing, my friend's ST panniers didn't drop. This time, I gonna to put those strip used on lauggage on my panniers (if we are going), hope it works.

The panniers were still in place after the landing. Was a short trip so I did not load them up... that might have help. Furthermore, I ride with the suspension on the stiff side so they didn't botton out on landing. I think I might have launched the bike off at about 150-160km/h, no idea how high the bike flew but bxxxx in the throat man!!:giddy:

You guys are crazy. 160km/h on trunk roads?? I only dare to do 160 at the Nilai-KLIA stretch, only because the road is wide, got 4 lanes, not many vehicles using it, and brightly-lit. :sian:

Heh Heh...yeah, I'm attached. My fiancee (after ROM is wife???) is in KL. Now u all know why I like to go to KL. hahahah

Unfortunately, she's not too happy abt me riding a bike. In fact, she still can't get over the fact that I put down the dpayment one week b4 our engagement, and not telling her abt it. The worse is I still didn't tell her until one week after our ROM. I know, I deserves to be scolded. But I just don't want anything to stop me from realising my dream. I dropped some signals to ppl close to me abt getting a bike and the responses I get was....negative. That's why I had to do it covertly, until it's too late! hahahahahahah.

I used to ride a 125cc Yamaha scrambler when i was still studying. Then while I was in uni, I went on an off-road trip. Dunno how I ride, jumped over something and landed badly. I cracked the engine block but I didn't know it, managed to get home and then only realise. My parents took the chance to stop me from riding, they refuse to help me fund the repair. So, I stopped riding...until now. I know I'm bad-lah, coz it's like revenge getting a bike without telling anybody. But it's me, I just love to ride. And now that I'm working and don't have to depend on anybody for $$$ liao, I can finally rekindle my passion.

And what an expensive passion. While typing this post, Kriss (PML) just called me to inform me a couple of things abt my bike that he's concerned abt. Did some quick calculation, think the bill will go to abt 1K. But for peace of mind, and since he said parts replacement will get me 2-year warranty but repair got no guarantee, I told him to go ahead. I'm not a very technical person, so I just had to trust him this time. I guess that's one of the downside of getting a pre-owned. Ai yah, done liao, no need to brood over it. Treating it like an overhaul for Bertha. I'm happy, the bike will be happier with new parts as well. ha ha ha
