Still in dilemma which type of bike to get; dual sport vs sports vs tourer..

BMW seems to be something worth owning! but the only set back is the cost $$$

If you are getting a 2nd hand one....it's really good value for money as the 1st owner will take a big slash off the brand new prices usually...

Since 1978 I've have own and ridden 13 Japanese bikes from 100cc to 1137cc engines. One-and-a-half year ago I got me a beemer R1150RT (brand new). This has been the most wonderful 1.5 year ever.

To wanderin_spiritz, secondhand beemers are value for money so long as they're serviced by reliable mechanics who really know bmw engines. Keyword is secondhand, not third or fourth hand.

Once I met a German guy who came to Singapore 11 years ago and bought an R1100GS. He is riding it still. He clocked a little over 100,000km with only two clutch change and two suspension change. The rest were regular servicing.

My suggestion to you: DON'T DELAY JOY!

11 years to clock 100,000km? that is quite an accomplishment. i gotta know this guy, i took 3yrs to hit 100,000km, this german must be really patient.

Looi's GSA is from PML or Parallel Import?

that's the fundamental difference between getting paid to do it and paying to do it, shouldnt be too tough to tell them apart.

Mr Lee say parallel import, should be male GSes. PML has alot of female bikes and henpecked owners.

Like most expats and rich BM owners this German guy is a weekend warrior, the kind that ride his beemer on weekends. They usually drive cars to their offices.

In the one-and-a-half year that I got mine, I have clocked 45,000km. My beemer is my workhorse and companion. I ride it almost everyday.

Mr Lee say parallel import, should be male GSes. PML has alot of female bikes and henpecked owners.

BMW has a worldwide warranty policy. All authorised dealers of any country will honour this warranty. There are no male/female beemers like Mr Lee refferred to, and no matter what bike you're riding, if you're henpecked, that's what you'll be. I'm in charge of my life, especially so when I'm out riding.

ediskrad Where do you get your RT serviced?

Paithorn is right. My bike is still under warranty, so still go back to PML. However, I know a mechanic highly trusted to work on beemers. He has a large pool BM owners as his clientele. Shop name: Perfection Motorcycles. Where: Block 1044 Eunos Industrial area (next to Cyclelink, Eunos). The last time I met him about a month ago, he was working to restore a 21 year old beemer.
