Hi Mamat,

Which repair shop did you go to?

What was the mileage of your bike when the fuel pump fails?

back to where it came from: dili . mileage is 68 000kms.well,i attribute it to riding the bike till way past its reserve before i visit Shell : 320km

I'm getting 308km for 16litres of fuel. A full tank of 21 litres should be able to return 400km...

Running on empty destroys the fuel pump as the fuel pump needs the fuel to act as a coolant.

great mid range bike, cept for the 16L tank and 21" front rims, which are centre-spoked, using tubed tyres btw. If there's an option for 19" rims, it'll be perfect, plus a tank upgrade to maybe 20L for longer range.

Rode the 650 last week. Brief summary:-

Pros: light, well balanced, great brakes, good for smaller riders, plenty of torque, nice exhaust note.

Cons: Seat will feel hard after a long tour, small screen.

I was holding out waiting for the 800. btw pml say they are only getting like 19 of the 800 and delivery is nov/dec. Now I'm not so sure because having rode the 650 I found it was a lot more torquey than I thought it would be.

I rode it down the road and then took it briefly "off-road" at the turf club - it handled the mushy stuff no problem which suprised me because the tyres are very much road tyres. With an intermediate tyre there's not much it couldn't handle at all.

For what I need a bike for (go to work sometimes and the occasional tour up north) I'm struggling to justify spending the extra $ on the 800. Think I will go for the 650, in fact I almost bought it on the spot.

Enjoy!

Keke ... just noticed that we are shifted to Sports Tourer / Tourers ... dunno how the "S" owners will say about that! I'll put it down to the general image of BMW bikes.

On issues with BMW bikes, there is a wealth of knowledge on the net, so I prefer to look up the problem and then go see a mech on it to discuss.

For PML, would there be any direct contact with the mech? Normally I deal with Kris who is the PR guy for the bikes? Sales department is different, and I think now a new guy call Ken Pereira (sorry if wrong spelling) is now there.

Cheers

Dont let them get you down!!

Dont give up till its fixed. and the best way to make them eat their shi...I mean words is to get supporting evidence. eg. go with someone who has had it done by them plus communicate direectly with BMW in german plus print heaps of feedback from GS forums.

I hate it when they do that, and blame it on the bloody characteristic of the bike!! Take it back to the sales person and ask them why were u not informed of this characteristic? Since the bike is under warranty make a big fuss. You did pay a decent wad of cash for this bike. If it cannot perform basic functions correctly then something is seriously wrong.

:gun: :gun: :gun: :gun:

Read up on the other forums about this problem, and at least I have a better idea of what is causing it now. Basically the reason for the jump on the gauge is due to the fuel sensor strip being on the left lobe of the tank only. There is a pump which constantly sends fuel from the right lobe to the left. So the gauge reads full on the left side even though the right is not. While I am thankful (after reading about other fuel gauge problems) that at least when the gauge shows reserve that it IS accurate, I'm still a little disturbed by this occurrence.

My main gripe about this is how I've been brushed off every single time I've tried to bring this issue up with PML. While I understand no amount of table-banging with the sales person is going to help, I do expect SOME kind of assistance from the dealer. Unfortunately, they seem very unwilling to offer any help on this and have not even given a proper explanation. I don't consider "this is normal" to be a very good answer.

Guess I'll try again to ask them to do whatever might possibly help solve this. Be it drying the sensor strip, replacing it or updating software. Guess I'll try anything until it's proven all methods fail. :weep:

Sorry if OFF topic but IMHO,the sales person has got nothing to do with the issue dude. Not all bikes are perfect and maybe yours was the one in a ten thousand. If it were a common problem, then definitely it can be rectified just like the EWS issue(ring antenna replaced).

Imagine buying a mobile phone from a shop and it just hanged due to software problems. Definitely, you have to resend it for software upgrades/servicing to get it rectified. No point shouting and banging tables at the customer service counter or the sales person.. Right? :thumb:

Think about it.. :goodluck:

Yes, I agree, not all bike are perfect.

But that doesnt mean if yours is a lemon, you have to accept it.

It was bought brand new, and if it is covered under warranty, the agent should take care of it.

Regardless if the problem is common or not.

Spore is a small place, unless ure riding a bike that has thousands on the road, there is a likely chance you will encounter an issue the mech has not faced before. Does it mean you will sit back and accept that?

I have worked at a telco and seen customers banging tables with several software upgrades and still, phone hanging. Some got a replacement others got a different brand/model of their choice.

After numerous trips to PML, I believe most do not deal direct with the mech but someone from the sales or PR dept.

My point is, fix the issue, not let them brush it off.

As a consumer, you have rights.

You are requesting for a problem to be fixed, not demanding something unreasonable.

Time should be enjoyed riding not trouble shooting, agreed?:thumb:

Totally agreed. I will be doing my best to press for a solution!

BTW, flat out on 6th gear I managed 215km/h, with the speedo ever EVER SO SLOWLY inching it's way towards 220. never made it to 220 tho. :p

wonder if the 19-20 F800 pml brings in will be pre-ordered ones..

then potential owners will have to make advance orders now huh...

Hi, Reckless,

IMHO, I reckon that a R1100GS would be in the $8k to $12k range, depending on condition and mileage. A R1150GS will cost about $3k to $5k more and the R1200GS is still above $20k. Of course the bike may require some doing up after purchase.

If you are not riding it regularly, get a suitable batt that can hold the charge.

Cheers

bro, sorry i didnt read your earlier thread...which BMW model are you riding now? I am riding the K1200LT and I have stopped servicing my bike in PML cos i think its bad service with exhorbitant price.

If you want to try out my mechanic, give me a ring. SO far, he did pretty decent job on my LT and the old RT.
