Came across this; so thought that I pass the info along. Owners may want to check with PML for their models.

BMW has issued a recall for the 2007 F800 S, F800 ST, R1200 R, K1200 S, K1200 R, K1200 R Sport and K1200 GT for a problem with their steering dampers. Read the details below.

Manufacturer: BMW

Model Year: 2007

Models affected: F800 S, F800 ST, R1200 R, K1200 S, K1200 R, K1200 R Sport, and K1200 GT

NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V342000

Potential Units Affected: 428

Problem: BMW is recalling 428 model year 2007 F800 S, F800 ST, R1200 R, K1200 S, K1200 R, K1200 R Sport, and K1200 GT motorcycles. It is possible for the coating to separate from the inside face of the steering damper housing. If this happened, the coating could partially clog the oil bores within the damper. If this occurred, the steering damper could become stiff increasing the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action: Dealers will replace the steering damper free of charge. The recall was expected to begin during July 2008. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117.

Cheers

Hi, Reckless,

IMHO, I reckon that a R1100GS would be in the $8k to $12k range, depending on condition and mileage. A R1150GS will cost about $3k to $5k more and the R1200GS is still above $20k. Of course the bike may require some doing up after purchase.

If you are not riding it regularly, get a suitable batt that can hold the charge.

Cheers

I reckon a near to or 2nd COE bike. Make sure that MHA approves and that exit permit also granted otherwise purchase will be in vain. :)

Cheers

bro, sorry i didnt read your earlier thread...which BMW model are you riding now? I am riding the K1200LT and I have stopped servicing my bike in PML cos i think its bad service with exhorbitant price.

If you want to try out my mechanic, give me a ring. SO far, he did pretty decent job on my LT and the old RT.

Bro...

which mech is that??

Your shop managed to get parts from PML? I thought that PML is trying to discourage outside shop from servicing its bikes. So no difficulty in shops getting parts?

Dili has many non-mainstream bikes.

My R1100R has a very slight oil leak from the oil level sight glass area. Not the type of leak that will drip oil onto the floor, but unsightly enough to gather dust and dirt around the sight glass.

Is this normal? Can this issue be rectified easily? If not, I'll just live with it.

Hi Phang,

Thanks for the link.

Is the seal prying tool necessary? Or is a flat blade screw driver good enough? i'm going to get one of the sight glass this week from PML. Hope that they carry stock for the sight glass for R1100R.

seal prying tool is the correct tool but a flat blade screw driver works as good :)

If the old glass seal pops out clean then it is ok, otherwise it will be a bi*ch to pull out :)

Good luck.

hi

the post was in March. was asking for 18k. too late to call last night. will call later

I stand corrected, but that yellow looks like Calyban's bike with that one and only rear box. He was a very proud owner of that bike; I was there when he fixed that rear box onto the bike at Loois, and rolled out the bike.

I am not sure if the GS yellow is Mandarin Yellow, but I like the GS yellow as well as the R1100S yellow too.

Well, beemers are funny, they are reliable in a way, yet require more maintenance and attention than Japanese bikes, IMHO. It's my parents' fault I am not riding a GS ....... not tall enough :)

Cheers
