Thank you for your in-depth advice. I never owned a bmw before. Like classic bikes though. Considering one being offered now for a five figure sum. Condition is so so. Not sure if it is worthwhile. Any advice? Cheers

The K is generally a really robust machine but you should know what you are getting yourself into.

Like what Cat has said, certain parts will need to be replaced due to wear and tear and age.

The known problems are the brakes, both the front and back will need to be rebuilt for sure!!! The brake lines should be changed to steel braided items as the old ones will be totally shot. Good pads are also essential, EBC HH or original Brembo's only.

The shocks and springs will be the next to go. Wilbers are a very decently priced example but I have a great condition original rear shock handy.....

The coils due to their position get overheated and will require replacement as well.

Ensure clutch and final drive is in good condition.

Engine wise, unless someone screwed it up, it should last you a long long time.

The price of the bike will depend on how sorted out the bike is. All the items listed above costs a fair amount of money, even if u pick up a bike for 8-9k but have to put in all of the above, it will still come up to a 5 digit amount.

Hope to see another k on the road soon too.....

Hi all,

Just like to ask if any GS12 riders here owned any aftermarket seats such like corbin, Sargent, Russell day long etc.

I am hoping that you can let me try sitting on one before I decide on one.

Not sure if it is any indication of Comfort for the GS as i never owned one for the GS.

But i used to have a pair of sargents for my Fazer, my wife and i loved the comfort it offered. Long journeys became a joy rather then the buzz numbing experiences the soft stock seat offered (not much support).

I have a corbin on dad's Gen1 fazer and in terms of firmness it is definately a lot harder than the Sargents. Too hard for my liking.....

In terms of comfort.... stock is softest...followed by Sargent...... and the hardest imho is the corbin.

The stock GSA seat on mine seems a fair seat and would let it run in a bit more before deciding if i should shoot for the Sargent.

Thank you for the feedback. My GSA stock seat is "OK". Just need a seat that lower and more comfortable than the stock.

Oh yes, I heard about corbin's hardness which is rather subjective to individual preference.

Hi,

I am keen to buy a R1150GS, good condition, low mileage, hopefully from someone who wants to do an upgrade to R1200GS and willing to sell at a reasonable price.

Any colors except Yellow.

(R1100GS too outdated, R1200GS too expensive, R1150GS just nice for a hobby)

I am alive again.....

Just sharing with you guys ...

This bloke posted an ad in the Straits Times today:

'00 BMW GS1200 Lots of accessories with adventurer gas tank call: XXXXXXXX

So yours truly call cos' a mate of mine is looking for a GS, so I asked him, is your bike a 1150? The guy goes, "1200". Hmm, but it is a 2000 bike? "yes". He even told me the price, which is a steal for a 1200GS.

So I was intrigued and told my friend to go look see, he called and pretty much got the same answers. He went, viewed, ... guess what? It is a R1100GS. Now, I do hope that it was just an innocent mistake, but I am just amazed that this sort of thing happened! I guess it takes all kinds of folks to make this world.

Cheers

excuse my ignorance. going for a long trip...isit necessary to change fuel pump for a 10yrs old K1200LT with 53k milege? anyone did before? or can i wait till 70-80k? pls advice, tks.

How long is the trip? If just to Malaysia I would not bother.

I know of a fuel pump on a K75 that lasted 19 years, albeit dying at about 50k km. Emergency repair for the fuel pump is to gently tap it to (hopefully) release dirt particles that clogged it, although the only sure-fire way is to replace it. I would not replace an item like the furl pump unless it is broken, too expensive to do pre-emptive repair.

Cheers

39L tank for the F800GS? Maybe for the older F650GS models but not the new F800GS since the tank isn't at the front. o_O

http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/show.lasso?sku=100-1100%22

Firstly, remember that the 800GS is more efficient than most other bikes out there. The tank may be only 16+ litres, but I can still get 220 miles from the tank without taking it easy. One 650GS rider I know managed 270miles!

However, if you must...

Hmm ...what about the extended tank from the touratech 2009 catalogue?

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=113139&stc=1&d=1235954233

Takes the stock 16+ litre tank up to 36 litres. Which based on my consumption would give me a range of 450+ miles. SHould be enough for most people

However, if its anything like the extended-range tank for the 650GS single I won't be forking out USD2,000 for it!

For USD99 I can add one of these to the end of my Trax panniers...

http://www.rotopax.com/ebay/images/pic.jpg

...that'll give me another 50+ miles if I need it. Don't plan to be more than 270 miles from a gas station in the near future :p

Doesn't make sense. Got people's attention. So? No fool is going to buy the bike when he realized that it is 2 models older than claimed. In fact, the buyer would likely be angry with the seller for wasting his time and post nasty things about him.

The seller must be really free or enjoy talking to pissed-off people to pull such a stunt.

BTW, shouldn't the number 1100 be printed on the tank or something? How to be honestly confused?

Hence my own amazement ...... this weekend never advertise liao. My own thought is that the seller perhaps hoped that some buyer will go down, saw the 1100, think ah well, it's not bad, since I am here ....

This week's talk of the local BMW town was the lelong sale of a June 2006 R1200GS for $22k. Several of my mates missed that. Now one bloke offered the new owner a higher price. I think the government should use us as an example of "what recession?" :)

Hello all

Was wondering how much was this bike otr? Has been unable to go to PML to ask for the pricing due to work commitment. Hope someone could help. I am a 27 year old this year. Anyone of same age and riding this as well? Thanks in advance.

I heard rumours of $28k-$30k depending on options.

But at age 27 you are too young for a BMW. Its an unwritten law that you must have pipe, slippers and beer belly before you can own a BMW :thumb:
