Lemme add on. 5K servicing oil change only 40bucks, 10K servicing, oil change, gear & shaft oil change & oil filter total about only about 100bucks.

Compared to a big jap sports bike, per bot synthetic oil cost nearly 20bucks, X4 bottles.

I must say BMW parts are rather expensive but when the major wear & tear parts are changed, it's gd to run for another 10yrs.

Live & let live.

Mtechnik @ Paya Ubi

They still send it to a workshop that specialise in reconditioning starter motor. I would prefer to go direct to these workshops. At least dont have to leave my bike there and cut some middle-man cost.

Hi everyone, has been awhile.

I think we miss out the May 2011 monthly meet up. :p

I am too tight up and just back from Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh.

I must say is a great experience to ride there. :p

No worries! There will always be time for that.

anyone going to the R1200R launch?

Oh, actually they will check if the starter motor is serviceable. Eg. magnet crack etc.

Mine was beyond repair & they had ready stock.

Anyone know where I can service my starter motor?

I changed mine at Combine Motors. Can't remember exact price but paid less than $200. Yes, it was sent to another shop for work and I don't think they will reveal the shop name! My old charger was still working but I reckon to rebuild it since it was almost 10 yrs old. Heard stories of no ignition without warning, and don't want that to happen to me in Malaysia or something.

Hi guys, it's been some time since my last post. Read some previous postings and must say this thread is as colorful as ever. Oh, and that guy who got beaten up by an uncle for getting friendly with his "friend" in the wrong place at the wrong time and definitely in the most inappropriate manner, then writing here to complain, takes the cake!

Anyway, was wondering if I could get some help here. My rear brake hose burst and I am looking for stainless steel replacement. I plan to replace the whole set, front and rear. But it seems hard to come by. I googled and could only find one vendor offering it. The rest are for non-ABS version. It seems strange to me that Goodridge and HEL and others would only offer non-ABS ones. Are there a lot of non-ABS Roadsters out there?

Only Motor-bins in the UK has it and this is their reply to me.

"These hoses are made by the same company that make the Genuine BMW rubber hoses and are pressure tested before leaving the Factory. They do not come with rubber coating except for the 22166S as this hose passes under the tank so is coated to protect against chafing."

They are pretty inexpensive compared to the branded ones (GBP 17 x 4 hoses). I am just not too happy they are not protected with a clear coat.

If you have suggestions for R1100R brake hose, pls let me know.

Hi all, I am thinking of buying a brand new GSA. I understand that Loois Motor is a PI for BMW bikes. Just how much money can I save by buying from Loois and you guys think it's worth it? I also understand that PML will refuse to service a PI bike unless I pay a fee, but are there any servicing or repairs that outside workshops specialising in BMW bikes cannot perform? Thanks for all advice!

It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in argument.

You can save a few $k buying from Loois - and depending on what model his bikes sometimes have some options. They say they can service themselves and they have the computer etc. at Loois.

For me (800GS) the savings at Loois over PML were not great enough. If you negotiate well and get some options thrown in at PML it works out only slightly more. So I went with PML. I think Loois caters for those who have an issue with PML and won't buy there. Having said that, I like Mr Lee and find him to be a pretty genuine guy so there's certainly no harm in buying from him. The issue in back of my mind was resale - I figured a PML bike is likely to fetch a little more when it comes time to sell.

Just my 20c.

...too many to list

Thanks for the insight, guys! I'll go check out what loois can offer for GSA and compare it with PML before deciding.

Guys, one more question. Which are the private workshops in SG that specialises in repair and servicing of BMW bikes? How competent are they? Is there anything that they can't perform and I have to visit PML? Have to ask just in case I go with PI bikes. Thanks all.

They quoted me an after market starter for $400+ and the original ones way higher. I didn't ask which brand since I find it too expensive.

Searched around the net there's brand new starter going for less than $200. Might be going that way since rebuilding an old one might need $100+ too.

Hey currypuff, long time no see!

Combine? Was it brand new (which brand) or you rebuild it? Mine is getting a little reluctant to spin when the bike is cold. Still works but not a good feeling especially on trips.

No help on your brake hoses. Might want to check out Advrider?
