Hi Atco, my humble opinion is, if you like it just go for it. Just need to plan your finances well. If you keep thinking of waiting for the next latest, the next latest will never come. New Technologies never stop there. If you notice, all latest model which involve a big change take a few years to refine their engine and design. I'm not sure why 2012 model come with no improvement except paintwork changes. The next change will be a big jump I guess then you may have to bear with some refinery down the road. This is my 2 cents.

I take your point. I was thinking that the successor to the current 12RT should arrive somewhere between 2013-2015, so was concerned that I may not be able to change by then. But you are right, since the 12RT is now matured after all the refinement, should be a bettet bike than its potential successor which still needs to be refined.

Hi Paul, correct me if I'm wrong. If a brand new cost $47K as what ATCO mentioned and the secondhand one in the showroom cost $44800 w/o insurance, then plus insurance it work out to be about $46+K, then how to sell off the secondhand one?

The $44800 is because of a current promotion by PML where they absorb the COE and some cost. Once the newer stock arrive next March, the price will be $47k+. Both are brand new.

it's a new unit

Can current R1200RT owners advise on insurance cost, and rider's age?

It should be around $1200 if you are between 40 - 45. Excluding discount, if include (if you have) it will be cheaper.

Best if you could drop by PML and talk to Paul at the same time enjoy the toxic expensive coffee for free.

we are using Liberty insurance.

Comprehensive coverage(1st party) at $1284 with GST. Acceptable age range is from 27 to 69.

Can someone advice how or who can help to fix my leaking tyre? Everyday I pump 41psi on the rear and it leak to 30 and below overnight. I've check the wall the tube with soap water but can't find the leak. I went to 2 mechanic but they Shan me away. The tyre is still quite new only run 12000 km so far. Should I change or repair it?

1991 - 1992 = Yamaha RD125LC YPVS

1992 - 1993 = Suzuki GSXR 400 K

1993 - 1994 = Yamaha Vmax1200

Check the valve? I'll also check the rim to see if it is bent.

@moto_fly: Haha washing with the pressure wand reminds me of the first time I took my GS offroad... I tried riding the damn thing around some really muddy stuff and by the time I was done both the bike and myself were covered in mud. So I ride in to this petrol station and ask the car wash guy there (who is this Ah Beng guy I know from my LC Kia days) to wash the bike. He starts spraying water everywhere, under the tank, the seat, the fenders, all over the place. Bloody bike was totally drenched but was *really* squeaky clean...

Anyway after carefully drying off the GS I tried to start the bike and much as I expected, the bike wouldn't start. Water had gotten into the Hall sensor harness and was shorting the damn thing out. So out comes the BMW toolkit and I start to pull the Hall sensor off to try and get it dried, so I can ride the bike home. The Beng comes up to me and this is what happens:

Ah Beng: "Eh bro why bike cannot start ah?"

Me: "Yah water go inside the wayar short oredi."

Ah Beng: "Wah KNN like that how?"

Me: "OK lah BMW got put toolkit inside the bike, can take out the sensor and dry-dry a bit. After that can start oredi."

Ah Beng: "OK power, so all BMW got toolkit ah?"

Me: "Yah this one is standard one."

Ah Beng: "I think I know why BMW must got toolkit one, cos everytime bike spoil, can easy to fix mah!"

Me: *PENGZ*

But yeah go ahead and pressure wash your baby, just tell the washer-dudes not to spray the sensitive bits. When I was riding scramblers I used to spray the bike with silicone lube, the plastics, forks, swingarm, any bits that could get dirty... and it made the washing so much easier after a ride. The dirt would just come off.

Wakkakaka...thanks for sharing ur experience bro. I'm riding a F8GS & after the intensely crazy HP wash along the old New York hotel stretch in JB, the bike actually could be started easily. I'm just worried that water will push pass the seals & what not around the engine n wiring area. But i see no other alternative then to HP wash the bike! I'll show you....

So correct me if i'm wrong, it's ok to HP wash the bike? Even though the sensitive areas as you can see are unavoidable. If I use a brush n low pressure water i think i'll finish cleaning it up in about a month's time. wakakaka :p

I'm actually quite worried bout this & can't seem to find another solution or a definite answer that, "yes, you can HP wash the bike". Even the manual says no HP wash...advice/opinions please!

should check your rim too. Did you go through bad ass port holes lately?? Bring to the mech and get them to remove the tires to check. dont take chance with leaking issue as they are only saving grace between you and the bike.

Hi Coolcat, thanks for your advice, yes I've check the Valve and the RIM. This happen only this 2 weeks and have not been to any rough terrain or pot hole. I dont think it's the RIM, but I decided to change the tyre.

thanks Doremi for your advice, I think unlikely is the RIM, valve also checked. Been to 2 mech they shun me off by saying too troublesome to check. One is Gor Pah from Ang Mo Kio industrial park 2 although he has the tyre repair machine. The other is Alan from Perfection motor who claim he dont have the tyre repair machine.

Anyway, I decided to get my tyre change in PML maybe this weekend.

I had no problem asking Alan to do anything for me when I asked nicely especially doing minor repairs and adjustment. Wondering why he turned you away?

@biker20: Hey dude, if you've not had any luck with motorcycle shops, might I suggest you check out Ban Hock Hin @ Defu Lane: http://www.banhockhin.com

I put them through an interview process and toured their workshop before allowing them to work on my GS... and was pleasantly surprised by the service I received. They're a top-notch facility and are very professional about what they do.

They did a permanent (internal patch) repair of my CB750's tyre and it's been holding air very well.

If you plan on heading down, please look for SAMY or FREDERICK. Samy is the workshop supervisor and Frederick is a Maintenance Coordinator. Please mention that you were recommended by the BMW-GS rider (they know me by my middle name, Peter) and they will take good care of you.

Cheers;

MJ
