Just checked with looi on the GSA, they are selling 45K all in OTR, insurance in as well for 31yrs old.

And their model is the full spec model with ESA, i presume with hand warmer as well. Throw in 2 side panniers too.

Question is , compared with a PML model which cost 48K -49K , w/o insurance , with warranty with much lower spec. What an average consumer would get?

Do we need the warranty so much?

nothing wrong with buying a PI bike as long as you dont need PML assistance in future, its okay..else it be $5000 adoption fee before they even touch your bike and every service required the bill is 25% more.

PML bikes generally has better 2nd hand value

wanna ride with madness?

lower spec cost 48-49K meh? really big increase from the price i bought 1 year plus ago. warranty is for the peace of mind.

yes looi's offers warranty too. when the parts come, its free, but u have to pay for labour. and if the parts comes. do you think they bother to call u if there's a recall?

i still remember when my bro bought a PI f650gs from them. a simple recall, dun even bother to call him. even try to tie up with faulty parts with cable ties. when we confront mr lee about it, he nonchalantly brush us off.

say he will call us in 2-3 months when the parts come. in the end, until my bro sell off the bike, parts also never come.

I was quoted 45k on the road for a triple black GS full option w/o insurance 2 months back. Normal servicing should be ok but they claimed they have the latest diagnostic machine. Any problem can go back to them. When come to real warranty or recall of the machine really good luck to you unless you are a VVIP customer if not they won't even bother about it.

diagnostic machine yes it there but the truth is, noone knows how to operate it. instruction menu in german

Cheers to that.

Mr Lee also stated that his guys all went for training in Italy and Germany in preparation the incoming Ducatis and BMWs. Time will tell if they are that good. Remember many years back they brought in a dyno machine and claimed to be the first fast forward 2011 the dyno room is a storeroom now for their race bikes parts.

Just weigh the pro and cons before you commit.

if urs is a PI bike, to claim warranty with PML.

first u have to be adopted by PML.

next, after all the paperworks go through, u have to pay for the parts first.

then when the parts comes, u have to pay again.

if at looi's, u wait until the cows come home, they dun even call you. Unless u and mr lee, ah-kah-liao, then he will call u.

its time for a sticky on PML bikes vs Loois bikes.

its never ending sia this saga.

if you want to buy from looi's aka cheap bmw bikes and listen to the cock and bull story of diagnostic machine, sent his son to training etc. go ahead.

some are die hard fans.

i

if you want to buy from PML aka blardy expensive beemer with full BMW MOTARRAD GERMANY support, just buy, no one stopping you.

like i said from the start, i'm neither a looi's hater nor a PML supporter. I had experience 1st hand what happen to my brother 2009 F650GS.

i called PML last friday.

The registration package no more liao . So next year all GSA price ,you need to pay machine + registration + insurance, I am 33 yrs old, so worked out to be almost 50K! And no ESA, hand warmer .. oh heng ar, they generously can give good price if you wanna purchase panniers from them. However, the current PML sales shows no reflection for a soon to come recession next year. All machines with registration package taken up! recession? what recession ?

Anyway I guess PML almost monopolized the market and the threat from parallel importers are not enough to uproot their throne. So they set nice premiums for those who can afford the machine. its a take it or leave it thingy..

hope in time to come, the parallel importers will have better support logistically and technically to rival PML. Then consumers can stand to benefit and more choices to select from.

Had to agree with you on this. It does not just happen to BMW bikes alone. Just good luck to those getting bikes from PI. Too bad I'm not in the ar-kah-chee category that's why the triple black was quoted $45k.

true, but the GSA is unmatched.

I dunno wht "unmatched" means, but the super tenere looks downright ugly. It likes like an ugly bug opening its huge mouth.

But oh well, the new Honda crosstourer looks like a little bird...

I'm not sure how to desc the GSA... :p

Still a bit confused by this PML / PI thingie. So you mean if I have a BMW bike, it will not be serviced by BMW dealers when I'm overseas? Like in malaysia?

think i will weigh in on this whole PML v Looi's thing.

Was looking for a GSA a couple of months ago and on the advice on some friends, I went to visit Mr Lee at Looi's. A friend of mine had already booked a 2011 GSA and it was "on the way". When I was introduced to him, I was excited and asked him some normal questions like "when will it arrive" (ans: dunno, sometime before the end of the year I think but i not sure), how much is it (ans: cannot confirm, 40+ can already). When I ask him if i can give him my name and number to place an order, he said "no need lah, I will call your friend when it comes" (btw, he doesn't remember said friend's name let alone number.) oh, and when i asked what colors, he said "what you want? don't know if can get, but try lah, if not other color you take.

I'm sorry?

The GSA is not a cheap bike, but here I was, a paying customer ready to spend money on a brand new bike, being treated like I was doing him a favor.

So i told him I was interested, and he said he would call. It's been almost 3 months, and no call yet. My friend whose bike was supposedly also on the way... yeah.. surprise surprise... no picture no sound.

A few days after my (unhappy) visit to Looi's, I head over to PML just to look look see see, only to find out that the 2011 GSAs are out of stock and the 2012 bikes will only be in in March 2012. Sian right? Ask Paul how much the new bikes will cost and he apologizes and says that the new price list will not be out till November, but that if i leave my name and number with him, he will give me a call when the price list arrives and I can make a decision if I want to place an order or not.

This is the difference (based on my experience); PML actually calls you back.

I got a call from Paul a few days later and to cut a long story short without lengthy story-telling, I managed to get a 2012 GSA Triple Black, with ESA, panniers and top box, insurance and road tax for SLIGHTLY more than what Looi's was quoting (more than 45k, less than 50). My friend who was on the "wait-list" at Looi's got, at the same time, a 2012 GSA Sand. On top of that, I get people who respond to my calls, answer my questions, and go out of their way to help me out.

Sometimes the absolute figure is not the best gauge of which is a better deal. Based on the "service" I got at Looi's, I'm not in any hurry to go back. If it is any indication of their after sales service, I am even happier that I didn't bother getting a bike there (I did mention that they STILL haven't called back either my friend nor me right?).

To me, I am already dropping a crapload of money of my dream bike, the little bit more to ensure peace of mind goes a long way in my opinion. I also want to state that I am not anti PI. If Looi's had treated me like a proper customer and been substantially cheaper, I probably would have bought my bike there, but they didn't, and I went to PML, and I have no regrets.

Just my personal experience, I am sure some of you have great experiences at Looi's. I am just not fortunate enough to be among that fortunate few.
