There is a high pitch squeaking sound coming from the engine area of my R1100R.... what could be a likely cause?

 

If you are technically sound then by all means remove the valve cover. Check the chain and tensioner. R1100 had been around for sometime you may want to check the chain guide. Else if not then send it to a workshop to do a total check.

 

Shops able to do it. Combine motors, Stamford motors or perfection motor.

Constantly when the engine is running... Gets louder when the throttle is opened and softer when the bike is idling at traffic lights...

 

I just went to listen again to the high pitch whining... seems to be the fuel pump coming from under the tank but it is embarrassingly loud when stopping at red lights. Wonder if that is normal for this bike?

Definitely not normal....

One of the most difficult fault to diagnose is noise from bike. You really have to find out where it orignated. But if urs also have when idling, then park at mscp or where it'll be quieter and try isolating the source. Do it with a mate if it's gonna be difficult to rev and listen at the same time.

 

Alternatively is to head down to workshop and get them to listen for the noise & find out what's wrong. It could be a faulty fuel pump if u mentioned it's under the tank.

 

Where do u normally do your R11R?

Just bought it not long ago so haven't brought it to any workshop yet... previous owner serviced it at combine motors.

Congrats! Did PML told you what is the purpose of the black plastic key? the normal ignition keys have id chip in it, so i guess the black plastic keys cannot be use to start the bike.

black plastic key is the wallet key. got chip inside also so can start bike and all. good for touring you keep spare inside your wallet so if lost your main key still got one spare.
