Did u happen to touch the meter needle? Try taking out the connection wire to the meter and check all the connection pins. C if they r still intact...

I believe it's pretty common.

What u see is the auto calibration/self check function in progress.

Alot of aftermarket tachometer is like that.

From autoguage, to after market koso meter replacements. They are also like that.

Since vara from the begining have this function. U will be worried if it does not do that.

I dunno abt the others.. but so far my Vara never reset the clock or mileage by it self before.. Unless I disconnect the batt or the connection wire... I really dun think it should reset by itself.. :giddy:

agreed. that's how its supposed to be. the reset knob is there for a reason. plse do a basic check on the followings; loose wire or pin connections or 10A fuse. swop it if you have a spare fuse. up to till now, there are no known auto reset function on the vara125 yet. had a few similar encounters and it all happened as mentioned above.

Sorry I think I in the wrong chanel. I thought u guys are talking about The tacho and speedo will go all the way up from zero till the end and come back down again.

IF you are talking about meter (mileage, time) reset by itself.

I can only think of a few things.

Battery. Main battery is dying soon, giving intermitent power out. Thus the reset of time. Thiis will be more obvious if your meter don't have a biuilt in button battery or that built in button battery is dead. Button batt last 2 to 3 years.

Main batt will last from 1/2 year to 2 years depending on quality and how you take care.

Bad contacts due to corrosion. Either at batt side, the meter side or inside the meter. I would say this is hard to check.

Wiring short circuit. Contrary to what most people believe. A lot of people thing short circuit will casue fire or melt wires are plastic. That will happens if the short circuit is bad and is close to overload.

If you have some corrosion that is enough to cause a temporary short circuit. It might confuse the meter's Smal IC processor and trip the circuit.

My small scoot is having this problem. cannot even electric start. Initially though main batt dead. Take out and charge with my Ctek charger. Charger says it's ok and is 95% full.

Once awhile, it will reset the time or the time lcd will show gabbrish text.

Sometime cannot start. But sometimes, after shaking the whole bike for a while. The electric start come back as normal. showing no sighn of weak battery.

Finally, I seems to found the fault. My volt meter wiring.

I installed a volt meter add on. only to be stolen after 3 weeks later.

I just left the wire there for 2 yeats. A close inspection show signs of corrosion. the 2 wires ends sometime are touching each other.

After I sperate them. I don't have the trouble anymore.

This is just what I have experience concerning basic circuitry on bikes.

Hope it will help.
