hi guys,

i know there are quite a few restriction on the above mentioned.

-cant ride on expressway

-

what else?

i also got a few questions:

-if theres a passenger in the sidecar, can you still take a pillion behind the rider? (total 3 pax)

-how about putting items in the sidecar for transporting?

-can we transport our dog in the sidecar?

-hows the roadtax/parking?

-how do you do inspection? since it cant go up the ramp.

answer the best i can, the rest really dont know :cheeky:

-how about putting items in the sidecar for transporting?

ever seen ppl put stuff there, so i dont think it's illegal, just that dont stack it until too tall, there's a height limit for transporting stuff.

-can we transport our dog in the sidecar?

must be inside cage n secured properly.

-hows the roadtax/parking?

not too sure, should be normal bike tax, insurance. parking take up about 2 bike slot, so i guess pay for 2 spot. eps parking maybe 1 bike charge, cos they can't detect u got sidecar or not.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

i like your last question. lol. as long as sidecar is legal, y would you worry how the authorities check your vehicle?

i guess if the sidecar is meant for your dog/s.. then you got to find a way to prevent them from jumping off. actually i dun think the dog will jump off right. :x

TS meant the yearly inspection.

iirc i read somewhere all pets transported in vehicle must be caged/in a confined space. if the tp dont charge u, i think spca might.

yeah even annual inspection.. you ride it to inspection centre.. would you be worried about how its being inspected? i definitely wouldnt.. i mean if its an out of a curiousity question then fair enough.

all vehicles are to be inspected at these inspection centre.. unless TS is concerned that only certain inspection centres can inspect those bikes with sidecars, i dun see a real cuase for concern.

Dear cougar,

Motorcycle to fit Sidecar

FEEDBACK NUMBER: 20100926-0038

Please refer to your enquiry of 25 September 2010.

We would like to inform you that a motorcycle to be fitted with a sidecar must comply with the following requirements as stipulated in the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) Rules:

(a) every sidecar fitted to a motorcycle shall be so attached that its wheel is not wholly outside perpendicular planes at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the motorcycle passing through the extreme projecting points in the front and in the rear of the motorcycle;

(b) the overall length of the sidecar shall not exceed 1400 millimetres;

© the overall width of the sidecar measured between the point of its attachment to the motorcycle and the outer face of its tyre shall not exceed 1020 millimetre; and

(d) the overall height of the sidecar shall not exceed 800 millimetres

For motorcycle fitted with sidecar to carry passenger only, the registration fee and road tax will be similar to that of a motorcycle. You are only allowed to carry a maximum of one passenger in the sidecar. No pillion behind the rider is allowed.

For motorcycle fitted with sidecar for the carriage of goods, it shall be classified as goods vehicle. The registration fee, road tax and the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) will be similar to that of a goods vehicle. The sidecar shall be fitted with one or more lids and the permissible payload is 70 kg. Please note that we will require you to show proof of business if you intend to register the motorcycle fitted with sidecar as a goods vehicle.

We would appreciate it if you could provide us with the following information for our evaluation:

(a) the make and model of the motorcycle;

(b) a sketch/drawing endorsed by a Professional Engineer (Mechanical) showing the installation details of the sidecar; and

© Calculations endorsed by a Professional Engineer (Mechanical) showing the maximum speed of the motorcycle fitted with sidecar and the maximum allowable payload of the sidecar

Should you require further clarifications on the registration or technical requirements, please contact Mr Roy Koh at tel: 65535491 or Mr Gunalan at tel: 65535117 respectively.

Yours sincerely

[Dear "cougar",

For your information, the cost for the side car installation with body frame bracket modification and PE certify report will cost roughly around $1200 (Shall need to be confirm) and a new metal type of side car at $625.

Thanks

Actually to me for S$2k for a decent side-car is not too ex. Though i doubt the quality build may not be what you find in pro-custom shops in Europe or States. Maybe even the russian Ural build better side-cars than BHH.

I really dont know, but i'll add one when my bike becomes lok lok, and me leg weak from old age, thats what i'll ride. Just like in the picture, whole family can fit in.

how abt importing the side car?

You run the risk of LTA not approving it lor. And overseas custom side cars are quite big, usually longer than then stated 140mm length! If you really into nice ones, some one suggested to me, go BHH do the cheap cheap sidecar and get it approve on paper. Then you go import your overseas pro-custom side car and bolt it on. Rebolt the BHH one during yearly inspection. Just like what alot of bros do with their customer bobber, cruisers, speedsters, whatever mod king and queen always does.

@Terrible One, you own a side car? Whats the insurance difference between with and without sidecar for your bike now? Road tax i know its the same, no change, but dont know insurers charge extra for the attachment or not?
