Hey Guys,

Looks like i might be moving to Singapore for a 1 year work Contract, outside my work day my life revolves around wrenching, building bikes and cars. I honestly couldnt live without it. I was wondering how hard it would be to import my chopper and rip around on it for the year while i was there. A few years back i had to move to Canada, so i brought one of my muscle cars up there with me and continued the restoration while there. Since i was on a work visa i didnt have to pay import taxes or anything as the car would be returning to the US after my 2 year contract was up.

Would that be the same for singapore ? My bike is a custom, but i have a 2008 year of manufacture on the title as thats when i first got it tagged. So it has a VIN and under manufacture its listed as Assem. Parts meaning its by no singular manufacturer.

I think it would be kinda cool ripping around Singapore on this thing, since its so loud and stupendously fun to lay rubber with.

I have no indicators, mufflers or gauges (just an oil pressure guage i plumbed in)

Or is it pretty much a no chance scenario?

Would love some feedback on this? Cheers Guys

Sam.

Hi there Stranger and welcome to Singapore soon.. from the best of my knowledge of the laws and legislation of the Singapore Traffic policies, i feel you can bring your bike over to Singapore however you are not allowed to ride it on the road.

Regarding the chopper's ability to burn rubber on Singapore's great roads (the roads are really nice to ride when it's sunny) i doubt it's possible as the LTA(Land Transport Authority) - the people who control what is to be on the road, will not allow such motorcycles to be on the road as they feel it will endanger other motorists. Here's a list of illegal modifications;

http://www.onemotoring.com.sg/publish/onemotoring/en/lta_information_guidelines/modifications_and_vehoffences/modification_guide/modification_allowed_lta.html

It's going to be a hard process to get your WOW chopper on the road as you have to go through all the stringent test before LTA approove it on the road.

Also when you come to Singapore you have to convert your international license to Singapore license before you can start riding.

BUT oh damn how'd i wish you'd bring it to singapore, i wanna have a feel of that chopper!! haha..

I'd say you probably have a mission impossible there.

If i am not mistaken, this would be akin to importing your own vehicle. That would mean vehicle needs to be under 3yrs old. There would be the 140% or so tax. But since your bike is self assembled, there would be some kind of hurdle there.

Next, your bike is clearly NOT road legal. In most US states you'd have problems as it is and Sg is probably the California equivilent when it comes to mods.

.....

You could bring it in (MAYBE) as an display piece not to be used on the road. That way you can still tinker on it whilst you are here. But not being able to use it on the road would be ...erm.... yeah.....

No indicators, no muffler, no gauges, youmhave just made the red tape uncuttablr.

Put it into storage, and buy a local bike once you reach here.

Generally the ROV scorn anything that is not to the manufacturers spec.

ROV is the registry of Vehicles, and yes they have their patrols, specifically checking for illegally

modified vehicles.
