what r they for?

i mean those big traffic light pole with mini traffic lights; green, amber, red.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

I think you are referring those at the pedestrian crossing, is it? If it is so, probably to alert the cyclist and incoming vehicles to really stop and let pedestrian cross. You know there are drivers and riders who doesnt stop at zebra crossing at all

1. Maybe these junctions have highest record of motorists running thru traffic lights.

2. Due to the structure of the traffic lights, many errant motorists claimed they didnt see the light change and could stop in time

3. So government put additional lower lights, no one else can says I didnt see the light change!

also possible that the opposite traffic light is very far away in a big junction, motorist may not be able to see

The small traffic lights are for the first vehicle to see. Sometimes, the placement of the bigger traffic lights cannot be seen by the first vehicle. In most instances, when I'm driving a car or a van and stop at those kind of junctions, i have difficulty looking at the main traffic lights and have to resort to looking at the small ones.

like mentioned above, issit at one of those junctions where there aren't the big overhead traffic lights? those mounted on the curved arm sticking out across the road.

if so, yea, possibly for the first vehicle to see. especially for those traffic lights for pedestrians in the neighbourhood. to cross the road, no cross traffic.
