my bike having problem starting this few days. i just replace with new engine oil.

do i need to change the oil filter when changing the engine oil? i look at the air filter and seems to be dry. what else is wrong?

There must be a good reason why Honda recommend particular plug type. So the one you replace it with has to be quite similar.

Because of this, the question:

How changing the type of plug can make it easier to remove?

And what is exactly the problem you have?

Original remover - is it the one which holds the plug after you screw it out? I never managed to take out the plug together with such remover - I have to unscrew it enough to take it out by hands.

With the oil filter, according to the manual, you have to replace it every 1600 km. In fact, many people suggest that it is enough to change it every other oil change. If you just bought the bike and do not know when previous owner last changed it, change it.

i manage to change the plug using the ori honda wrench.

i can start my bike for awhile and hold the throttle for few secs.

but once i let go, the engine will die...

too late to change the oil filter as i already change to new engine oil...

How long have you had the bike? Is the bike jetted correctly? Is your idling too low?

Recommended jettings for the XR4 is 158 main 58 pilot, 160 main, 60 pilot, or a combination of the two.

I would change the oil filter with each oil change. Oil filters are cheap, and gives me peace of mind.

You can still change the oil filter. At most you'll lose a little oil. Just need to top it up again.

Was it the same before you changed the plug?

If not, then probably you did not tighten plug enough.

If yes, then refer to ulysses_sc post

Which area do you stay, BTW?

For a start, please download the manual for your XR4 here, and read it thoroughly.

i was trying to take the oil filter bolts out myself but 1 of the bolts got stuck & it became rounded. i manage it loosen it after spraying with wd40 & forcing it out with the ratchet. whats the lenght of the oil filter bolts? are both of them same lenght? mine is right side long & left side short. or is the left side broken half way inside? how do i take out the broken bolt inside? i look at the manual but saw that the bolts are both short.

thanks in advance.

Don't worry. The oil filter cover bolts are not equal in length. One is quite long, the other rather short.
