Can somebody tell me why is there a ERP charges of $2 for car to CBD on a Saturday evening at 7.30 pm...???

I remember when the ERP system was first implemented, its purpose was to control traffic congestion during peak hours.

On Saturday evening, there is no traffic jam, office hour is either non or half day only. And yet there is ERP charges till 7.55pm. This is another case of very unnecessary charging by LTA that contribute to high cost of living in Singapore.

Sadly to say, it has lost its intended purpose.... sigh..!!!

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

do u all know in a few years time the ERP system gonna change, they gonna do away with gantries and upgrade to satellite tracking. much more convenient way to suck our money.

but i guess it is also a good thing because maybe with this system, it will be easier to track down lost/stolen bikes.

The worse part is you make a wrong turn go out of the CBD then need to pay the ERP again! :slapforehead:

Worse than mountain bandit... at least the mountain bandit rob you once know you no money don't rob you again.

This one know you no money already, ask you to pay a bigger sum another day. (aka fine $10) :faint:

ERP.

Every Road Pay, Everyday Rob People etc etc...

As much as I hate ERPs, I think it is necessary.

lets imagine, 1 day we remove all ERP on a working day.

Cfm Plus Chop all vehicals dun needa move at all.

Personally, ERP as effectively detered me from using those major roads during the operating hours. If possible, I will always wait for the non-peak hours or find an alternative route to avoid the ERP.

COE, the cert that we dont want to "Achieve" or "Earn".

By today's COE prices, the L+A should really award the new vehical owners a "Certificate of Entitlement (With Merit)" Lol.

BUT look at it this way la, say we eliminate COE. A first hand Thai Made car would cost approximatly $20K OTR. At that price, even NSFs can afford la...

We land constraint country, too many cars on the road, surely there has got to be a system to limt ma. Tio Bo?

Dont get me wrong la bros, I also perfer having the cash in my wallets instead...

Posted

BUt hor, I super againts the $8-$10 fine that you have to pay cuz forget to put cash card.

Come on la, we are bikers, sometimes we just forget.

We not like car, we dont have the luxury of driving and still got enough hands to drink coffee and slip in a cash card.

Sometimes we just forget, just charge us the balance can liao ma. Bank can have credit cards, we cannot go through ERPs "on credit" mehs... Lol.

1 time i kena cuz cannot stop, lane splitting, see ERP, "oh fked". and lan lan went through.

2nd time I kena, cuz not familar with that Expressway, Stop at road shoulder, slip in card, went through ERP, but still kena.. -.-"

3rd time best. Put in card, but nv put properly, my IU nv detect, i din know. drive in. Tio.

No need all these money sucking plans one lah. o_O

Problem is too many cars on the road then just deal with it lah!

What ERP? What COE? Implement for 20 years still the same jam! If not worse! A total nonsense plan! Paid the transport minister millions every year to talk rubbish!

No wonder nobody vote her GRC and she lost! Orrrrr Beeeee Gooood!

Make the annoucement that there will be no ERP, no COE and no import of cars for the next 10 years, starting from next year. settle liao. :thumb:

Why ban for 10 years?

Our COE is for 10 years.

That way car owners cannot complain that they just bought new car and paid $59,000 COE yesterday and start demanding refunds, citing "how can do away with COE, unfair to him".

They got what they paid for a "Certificate Of Entitlement" (COE). Because after him, nobody else can buy car already.

And why it only starts next year?

So that

1. Potential buyers have time to ship in the model they want this year and get it registered.

2. Car dealers will have the rest of the year to clear old stock, since everyone knows there will be no new cars availialble for the next 10 years, sure can clear stock one. Even lousy car with lousy salesman also can sell like nobody's business. :cheeky:

3. Stimulate a short term boom in car sales.

What's so good about this plan?

1. End of the year, no more new cars coming in and damaged cars getting scrap = lesser cars, lesser jam.

2. Since everyone knows there is no new cars to buy, drivers will be more careful when driving.

3. Since there are no new cars, this will stimulate the used car industry.

4. Singapore dollar will not be weakened because of import of cars.

5. Drivers and riders save on cost of transport (ERP).

6. Currrent vehicles owners can save on renewing COE.

7. Cars are precious, so stimulate business for motortiam.

8. After the 10 year ban, new cars can be imported again, but number is controlled by the government. We start with a clean slate.

9. And NO COE!

The bad

1. There will be a temporary increase in the number of cars for the first few months when people panic and start to buy cars.

2. Government get less revenue and will up the GST, and use their scholars to think up of new ways to tax the people.

3. Car dealers will have to switch jobs after the sales boom.

4. New licence owners only got old used cars to buy. (not nescesary a bad thing, but they will still be unhappy lah) :p

Only allow electric wheelchairs on all roads, ban all combustion engine vehicles on the road. Like that than can accomodate 6.5million nicely, otherwise its just to create a problem to make money only.

Nope. There won't be new cars coming into Singapore at all for 10 years. There won't be a lottery, because there are no new cars to buy. Period.

And looking at the number of accidents we have. Average 3 per day.

If just 1 out of 10 accidents needs the vehicle to be scraped, that will mean at least 100 vehicles scraped every year with no new ones to replace them. And this does not include those that have to be scraped because the owner don't want to spend money to overhaul.

Multiply that by 10 years you get the picture.

Imagine 10 years with vehicle population steadily decreasing. Let me ask you this, in which year did the vehicle population in Singapore Decreased?

And in the meantime the government has 10 years to build the infrastruture need when the country starts importing new cars in the 11th year.

I believe in ERP but I only consider it dubious because it does not reveal the portion collected that goes into the maintainece of the safty and and security of the road user.

If theycollect money to help the road user keep safe, employ enforcement officer, upkeep of the condition of the road as least as comparable to the HSHW, that's fine even if it's 24 hour a day and 7 day a week.

but as it is, I don't see any major improvement to the road safety for us. and only once a week i see enforcement officer on the road.

Only prob, is that in the long run, SG will be a "3rd World Car Country".

Anyway, supply constrain vs Singapore's Dd for car, prices of car will still rocket up.

Only benefit is we dun need lane split liao. Lol.

You think they will mare?

No COE, no ERP, no 100% car tariff (or is it 200% can't remember already, but I know car overseas are less then half of what they cost here) without all these money going into the coffers, the ministers can afford the million dollar salary mare?

Some more the idea, even though no need money to implement, but will do good comes out of a serf's mouth and not from an elite you think they can swallow their pride and implement it mare?

So embarassing, to admit that all the million dollar ERP set up and COE implement for so many years did nothing.

When the solution was to just impose a ban.

How are they going to answer to the people?

You honestly think they will say they are wrong and will refund the money mare?

In fact, the implementing of the COE means that they cannot ban the import of cars for the short term, (eg: 1-2 years) otherwise how are they going to cope with people who already got the COE but no cars to buy when the ban starts?

Refund again mare?

You know govn policy one lah, money easy to go into their pocket, but no way to get back out once in.

When small that time I also want to be law maker to make our country a better place, I got lots of ideas that can be done, but my voice too small cannot be heard, like the using the roof to farm idea, only when a DR so and so said so, and did research, then got people listen. I primary school already got this idea loh...

But very dangerous to let people know I so smart when my surname is not starting with the letter "L" leh, if I outshine everyone else I might die you know?

Never heard of the story "How Red Hill got it's name" mare?

I still got family to support one you know? You want me to die ah? I scared they jealous, jail me leh!
