Any1 wana learn salsa do count me in, wanted to learn but no friends to go together....

Hope to shed some weight

Omigod... and I thought I was the only one thinking the same thing.

First took up salsa 2 years ago. Then due to lack of kakis (salsa's bloody fun, but a royal pain in the @rse when you're a loner), I dropped out of it... until I noticed I've piled on 3kgs about 2 months ago due to my pretty much sedentary lifestyle.

Incidentally the cigar divan where I hang out to smoke stogies holds salsa practice sessions upstairs... so now I'm back into it full swing!!

Too early to see any reduction in weight yet, but at least I'm doing something to burn up some calories. And meeting chicks.

Just checked. Lost 1.5kg, from 10 hours of salsa every week.

Hope to keep dancing away those kilos. Too bad I can't lay off my cigars and fags.

Any luck with your weight loss, Jess?

Sure, luv.

:smooch:

Tell you what, we should go dancing the next time I'm in Singapore. Can?

Merengue is sexier, and simpler I think. Salsa is just a faster (and more complex!) version of mambo. Brilliant fun when you round up a few salsa couples, get in a circle and do the Rueda (latino version of line dancing).

Don't worry about how bad you are. Just keep dancing and you'll remember.

Difficult or not, can't say coz to be honest I haven't danced anything else.

First you need to understand the clave-based latino music, then you need to know the basic body movements. Only then will you know how to move to the music.

Next, you'll need to remember the basic steps (mambo, cucaracha, enchuvla, dile que no, cross body lead, underarm turn etc etc) before anything else, because a lot of the moves are either variations of these steps or build on these steps.

Then, because of the history of Cuba.. the political turmoil, the mass migrations to the US.. you have different flavours of salsa (yes, just like the food). Got LA style salsa, got NY style and got Cuban style. Easiest is LA style, I think, but Cuban is more fun. Haven't learned NY style, tho.

Why not take up another salsa class?

IF U ARE BEGINNER AT HIP HOP ,CAN TRY AT THE SSC. 8SESSIONS FOR $80 WHICH I THINK IS AFFORDBLE. IF U WANT GO FOR A ADVANCE LEVEL ,CAN TRY IT AT ORCHARD CALIFONIA FITNESS CLASS.EVERYTIME HAVE TO TAKE 2 CLASSES TO MEMORIZE THE MOVES. BUT THE FEES IS QUITE X. HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL PROMOTION.
