Hello ppl, 3 months ago i bought a 2nd hand drz fm bike shop. Thing is, there is no problem until last month, the whole of my rear part of my drz was covered with oil including my tyres, rims, suspension n so on. And it was really like alot. Intially i thought it was chain lube but then i dismissed the thought as it was too much surface area for chain lube to cover. Just now, i went to chnge engine oil after 2000km and the used engine oil that comes out was like... 500ml. Less than a bottle! This only happened once. Any advice? Isit something i shud worry about? I noe i shudve asked the mech but i totally forgot abt this incident jst now. And i my work commitment doesnt give me much time to go to bike shops. Thank u in advance.

I am not an expert but I know some things about the DRZ.

Your drive sprocket locknut is working itself loose due wear on the serrations of the nut locking plate.

When the locknut is loose, the oil pressure at the dynamic seal of the front sprocket shaft will push against the seal outwards and leak when the engine is operating. Some times the leak is very bad and can drain out all the engine oil, sometimes it leaks intermittently.

Get the locking plate of the engine sprocket nut replaced as soon as possible. If the nut were to work itself loose, losing engine oil is not your biggest problem.. shearing of the drive shaft when the drive jams itself on the loose sprocket will result in an engine overhaul to replace the drive shaft.

That is going to set you back at least $900.
