Not water tank, its water pump! it will spoil around 2 to 3 years.

3 signs;

1. water temp heat up to red line fan never on by itself

2. water leak from the pump, begaining u will only see some coolant stain

3. water pump giving loud irritating noise, pump bearing give way.

If you wanna re-place the is a few brand on the market. Repair = service (problem might come back again)

Most of the scooter shop carry them, if you need any further informations, you can also call me or PM me

I would buy a X9 500 @ 2.5 - 3k if the conditions is good, main reason after few years i should still be able to get min. of 2k if not in a hurry to sell

No matter how well u maintain ur x9, water pump will spoil too! cos the average life of the bearings and oil seals of the water pump are about 2 to 3 years (24k to 36k)! so, its all depends on ur luck! :goodluck:

My water pump still ok after 5 years of usage... After reading much of your posts in this thread, I somehow feel that you are misleading our X9 riders here by your own opinions about the bike. I don't really understand what is your intention in doing so but I believe that this thread is set up for primarily for X9 lovers and not X9 haters. If you think X9 is a lousy bike, please keep clear from this thread. Let those who can provide genuine help and advice to assist our fellow X9ners in their difficulties. We will appreciate you for that.

Same here loh... 1 year change one pump...

not cheap leh... A car coolant pump is very much cheaper than X9... parts alone... 70 odd only... for a car coolant pump... plus workmanship... maybe about 120 - 150... somemore can last 3 - 5 years.

X9 coolant pump ? inside made of gold one....

Piaggio have recently improved their water pump, think those new (end 2006) x8, gt and runner r installed with it.

At the moment we dont know how long can it last, should be longer than the old one.

Please dont shoot me Mr Yeoman, i'm here just to provide information. :sian:

wah yeoman... why the outburst man?? and why of all people satgi? so far I've seen that he's been giving unbiased opinions on parts and maintenance. I bet you know who is he as well.

The belt info was a pretty good one plus the helicoil durability was something that I wasn't aware of.

The water pump problem is REAL and I really change every 12 months. Maybe you're lucky can last 5 years. Or maybe you didn't whack your bike as hard as Solaris and I did.

If this thread is meant to say only good things about the bike and cover up the bikes shortcoming.... then I'm outta here.

X9 lovers at the end will become X9 haters as well. My prediction for 2007. :cheeky:

if ur water pump still ok after 5 years of usage, then it is not a wear and tear issue, but manufacturers fault issue where you need to depends on ur luck when it will break down.

Anyway from my personal opnion, since day 1 i got my bike(less than 2 weeks), I changed my

1)speedometer sensor - speedometer needle jumps ard

2)brembo brake calipers - front wheel cannot spin freely

3)install temp sensor - temp raise very fast in jam, so need activate fan before red bar

4)steering cone - handle bar 'not obedient'

but i did not regret buying this bike coz i like the design and comfort and I did my homework before buying one.If I wan confirm easy to maintain would be RXZ,phantom, which explains why we see so many ard. Some ppl still prefer aprilia over sp(taxi bike) even though they know it's harder to maintain, italians bikes depreciate faster than japan bikes , harder to maintain and parts more ex compared to japan bikes but ppl still like it for some reasons. And what is yours?

Sorry to say that I somehow feel shiok after letting go some missles. For those who know me long enough, you guys should know that I am not the kind of guy who is out to look for trouble. But after reading what had been posted in this thread, I really cannot take it. There is a big difference between providing info and passing sacarstic remarks. I believe that those X9 newbies must be feeling quite sad now after hearing about the possible problems that could happen to their bike eventhough it havent really occur to them yet.

Although problems are inevitable but it will always be kind for the so called "lao jiaos" not to further aggravate the stress that these new riders are facing. Especially when some of them are pretty new to the bike. The main reason for them to come to this thread in the forum is to seek for guidance and advice so that they can get to know their machine better, the problems that can happen and how to maintain it correctly. I personally feel that it is just how you cope with the problem when it happens. Running away from problems is a cowardly behaviour. Be mentally prepared for it and perform regular maintenance checks will definitely helps to keep the bike in good shape.

In order to get a bike running in good condition is not by luck like what someone has mentioned. You won't get any luckier on other bikes if you don't upkeep the bike through regular maintenance and care. You may also face up with more problems if you are someone who love to whack your bike irregardless of the bike's make and model. Please don't blame the poor bike for your own actions.

I really cant help to stop myself from laughing when I saw one post which someone compared the price of a car's coolant pump price to X9's. Calculate the overall expenses of maintaining a car and you should know the reason why I am laughing.

To my dear Edwin, yes I know who Satgi is but too bad I am not good at carrying. To me, I only hope that there is genuine help and advice being offered for the goodwill of our fellow X9ners. Let the X9 riders to decide themselves whether they are going to love or hate their X9s. To me, X9 is still my best bike as compared to the list of my previous bikes shown in my signature. I have said my piece.

yeoman,

regularly maintained X9s with regular riding faces the same issues. No two ways about it. Its really about LUCK when it comes to this machine.

In fact I personally find it MISLEADING to read that a properly maintained X9 will not have much problems. REALLY.

after i had a series of problems that could be due to what you've mentioned that I may have whacked it too hard, i rode like an ah pek with it and only during the weekends and when i needed to ride into msia avg speed of 110-115kmh.

still the same old problems came back. water pump. steering cone. forever dropping out spark plug socket. electronics(mine was sealed to the max with silicon), petrol gauge.

you have your opinion towards this bike. I have mine as well. And others as well.

So lets all agree to disagree. All are valid points.

I never say x9 is a bad scooters, why should i? I need them to earn a living!

i dont know why u need to be so angry when i point out the real problem of x9 and how to know when there's problem on the water pump. Tis is not providing info for the newbies?

Now there r 3 forumer say that their water pump break down less than 2 yrs, we wait and see how many more will come in and say the truth. :weep:

p/s: I dont like carrying, and i dont like people who carry too! If those people who trying to carry me, pls safe ur strength.

Its quite true...

I have enjoy my X9 for near 2 years.... it is a means of transport to me... it is also my passion... my other love....

most bikes have problems... even BMWs big bikes... i heard the labour to drop the engine, initial charge is $600..... with or without parts replace...

Furthermore X9 is a Italian bike... not Ducati... but... Piaggio...

I still remember..... de ja vu... my first time on that bike... the engine is so quiet... i can hardly hear it running when i am on the move... it is like siting on a chair floating... enjoying the breeze... i think this is true joy...
