Some chargers have a switch to choose either quick charge(short duration, but bad for battery if continue charging after full charge - some may have auto cut-off) or slow charge(better but takes a longer time).

Firstly, ensure that you have your polarity(+ve & -ve) correct when you connect the charging cables. Charging must be in a well-ventilated area and if you have battery filler caps, loosen them to prevent pressure build-up in battery(it will get hot, causing leakage or explosion), place newspapers below battery to prevent droplets from spoiling your floor.

Charging duration should come in the battery charger box if you have one.

If not, check battery charger for charging rate in amperes per hour(Ah). Then check your battery ampere capacity (Ah). Divide this battery ampere capacity by charging rate Ah. This is the estimated duration in hours.

Btw, your discharged battery is not totally at zero ampere. It just does not have enough current to start bike. So I usually charge one hour less from the estimated duration. Also, if your battery charger has a meter, it should indicate full charge - low(red), orange, green(full).

WARNING: The battery fluid is acidic, it can burn your skin and furniture! It will bubble out if you don't leave the cap on top of the filler hole. Even then, some will still bubble out. Make sure children stay clear. Spread out the newspaper cos even after days, the acid on the floor will still burn skin. Especially don't look into the battery hole while charging - your eyes may get burnt! Keep children away from the area!

Bike wash confirmed. Refreshment will be provided. If it rains, is it ok to wash at 2pm? Provided the rain stops.

Uncle Francis..... Your explaination is wat i just learnt in school only :p

Seee... what you've learnt got use right:thumb: . It is what I've learnt in the Air Force. Also, I've done it myself before and also got burnt before. Actually, battery charging is very dangerous to do at home... sulphuric gas.

Thanks uncle francis for providing us with water, soap among other things for the wash.....

Welcomed. The water, shampoo was easy. Didn't know your bike don't like my shampoo, that's all. A good time I had chit-chatting. Good exercise too push-starting Jilleen's bike. Need to get exercise more often.

I think we should organise a sport outing.... hahaha

But then feel abit wasted.... coz rain after wash :~~

You didn't cover bike when it rained. Hard or distance riding can be good exercise. Singapore is just too small and risky.

Yup yup, bike cover pass to cousin liaoz, coz too small for my bike,,,

I need to buy a new bike cover soon.

Wanna go Mersing ride coming week? But don't write in forum when you can go cos won't be surprised M'sia tp checking thread when bikers come up so to make money. Sms when free to go.

And if you want a full-day ride, we can also go. Or if you want to ride up Guning Pulai, also can. I did in my car(Alfa), but I dare not do it on my bike. Even my brother's 2000cc Alfa gave up. I've even seen kubs go up. But you had better not drop your bike cos it will keep on sliding downhill. My car almost overheated going up. There's also a waterfall at the foot of the hill. But not for going during hols and weekends cos crowded. Also many other waterfalls in Johor - I've brought my family to 5 of them before. Many places for 1 day trips - KL or Kuantan downwards.

Fixed your bike yet? I would like to learn what the problem is - hope not something expensive. Riding up with smaller bike no problem cos I don't go fast on the straight. I can also be the last bike cos I don't get lost in M'sia.

If it is only battery problem... how come we cannot push-start?... I don't understand:?.

So you put in new battery and the bike can start hah? I had push-start my flat battery 400cc bike before leh - no problem.

the batt only left 2.1V. had called my bike workshop just now and only up to 8v. the mech told me was totally death... added, once the batt was death no matter how it never and ever start by push start or jack start. can help me once more give another try by push the 8v? If not I gotta to spend $180 to get a new dry cell batt.

Oh, I see...now I understand, I think. Your battery need to change, no matter what. It is dead. 2 of your cells are totally gone - shorted. Each cell is 2V. 6 cells is 12V. Jump-start will not work... but..er..push-start should still work. Even if we start the bike, your battery still must change.

How come you cannot use wet-cell battery? Get those that maintenance-free sealed lead-acid batteries - they do not need distilled water topping-up, and cheaper.

Posted

Uncle francis, actually wet cell battery is better and longer lasting...

But u must maintain it... but if u lazy to maintain, get dry cell, maintenience free...............

Jilleen, go change ur batt la.....

Who what where when?

Agreed. Wet-cell better. $60 compared to $180, straightaway better:lol:   .
