Note: i will estimate the cost at a high side

Petrol Cost

GP -- Thai Border (RM 1.92/Litres)

4 Petrol Stop in NSHW (Coffee break after exit 214)

- Start at GP

- Ayer keroh Petronas (est 210km) ======== RM 36.50

- Exit 214 MacDonald Rest Petronas (est 135km) ===== RM 21.00

- Sg Perak Petronas (est 216km) ================== RM 28.00

- Bkt Kayu Hitam Petronas (est 240km). ================ RM 37.00

Total Set aside RM 150 x 2 = RM 300 - 350 (Go & Return)

Hatyai ---- Samui (est 35 - 40 Baht/litres )

(est 380km)

1st Petrol Stop (est stop over at 220km) = est use up 15 litres= 600 Baht

2nd Petrol Stop near Donsak Pier = est use up 10 litres= 400 Baht

Total Set aside Baht 1000 x 2 = 2000- 2500 Baht (Go & Return)

Might be cheaper, on the way back might pump once only.

AT KL Stay (17 July)

Hotel Stay in KL (Settle thru credit card)

Expenses/ R&R = RM150-200

At Hatyai Stay (12 July, 15 & 16 July)

Base on Hatyai Grand Central = 890 Baht x 3 Day stay = 2670 Baht

(Note: Twin Sharing will half the cost of hotel stay)

At Samui Stay (13 & 14 July)

Budget GuestHouse Stay (600 - 800 Baht) = 800 Baht x 2 Day = 1600 Baht

(Note: Twin Sharing will half the cost of hotel stay)

Ferry to Samui (est 150 - 200 Baht ) = 2x 200 = 400 Baht (Go & Return)

Bike Rental (est 250 - 400 Baht) plus petrol = 400 + 100 Baht = 500 Baht

Expenses/ R&R = $150 - $200 sin = 4700 Baht

http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi

Ok...So let me do the estimated sum up for this trip

In Rinngit === RM 550

Petrol RM 350

R&R/Expenses RM 200

Hotel Stay in KL (Settle thru credit card) est. Sin 50-58 (we try Ancasa Hotel)

In Baht ==== 12,370 Baht = est sin $526 & sin $435 with twin sharing room

http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi

Petrol = 2500 baht

Hotel Stay = 2670 + 1600 = 4270 baht (Note: Twin Sharing will half the cost of hotel stay)

Bike Rental = 500 Baht

Ferry = 400 baht

R&R/Expenses = $150 - $200 sin = 4700 Baht

Note:

I'm planning at slightly high side, cost will be cheaper on that day due to hotel stay. Pls let me know if i have left out anything....

As request, for those who like to enquire the estimate cost again for this coming trip.

Maybe we shall set a closing date for those who interested for this coming Samui Trip 2008.

darn tt makes it harder to make a decision..

i'm 1.71m and 66kg so actually im quite afraid i wun be able to handle a vara esp with full tank..

Dinie > U dun have to be a bodybuilder to handle a Vara or Vstrom. It's all abt technique and getting used to. Vara dry wt is 220kg (25L tank size) while Vstrom is 208kg (22L size). Just a mere 12kg diff.

For Vstrom if too high, there's such thing as lowering links or change the entire seat with a 650cc model to lower the seat height.

I rode a Vara b4 n now a Vstrom. What I can tell u is Vara n Vstrom are like 2 diff sexy babes. They both give u diff pleasures. If i could, I wanna own both so I can have a 3-some anytime, anywhere i want to. :cheeky:

If you wish to find out more abt these 2 bikes, join the next Vara gang kopi session. They are 1 hell of a gang. :thumb: Then we can sit and talk in great details abt these 2 great tourers. Too lenghty for us to discuss this over here.

Dinie >>> it's not about the physical size of the rider...it's the heart...

just ride the bike that u love...eventually u'll get used to the weight and height and the handling ur handling will be no problem already....

i am as tall as you and i'm more than 10kg lighter than you but riding a strom instead....i always get 'the look' from other people when they see me riding the strom...they'll probably thinking why this small fellow torture himself riding such a big bike...

i even manage to bring up my fully loaded strom with 2 side boxes alone when i drop the bike in one of the the petrol stops...it's about ur will to ride...

U should meet up with the Vara guys. They will be more than happy to guide you on the bikes info.

Just ride the bike that you love :thumb:

Hi bro, how are you? You dun really have to ride a Varadero or in fact any Class 2 bike to meet up with us. VARA is really about a bunch of Varadero enthusiasts. People who like it, love it and as long as you are an enthusiast, we welcome you with open arms during our meet ups. I think the rest of the brudders will agree with me. Above all, its about the love for motorcycling/biking/riding.

I suggest you come meet us before your test so that you can see and feel for yourself what awaits you when you pass. Just to entice you with our jokes and laughs so that you will remember to pass on test day. All the best.

I hope any of these responses answers your query :-

1) the trip to the seafood place going into some rather 'off-road' terrain. i'm not sure what bike you riding now bt if ur ride can take it, what the heck! Live the VARA code.."ADventuuurrrreeee!"... if not, you are more than welcome to tagg along as per recommended...

2) Same reply to still_knight by VARA8212; have a 'sneak peak' how our VARA brudders are.. experience the jokes, fun and especially the food.. the seafood is darn great...

3) My ride been kinda rough lately.. time to tune it up a bit. maybe EO change.. other stuffs.. Dun wana risk riding it to Rakit if its going the way it is right now!..

Bro,

I've sat on the MotoGuzzi's Stelvio at bike Asia and i've to admit that it feels very much like a GS.. Awesome bike lah.. Good stuff.. Anyways, MotoGuzzi is italian and so be prepared to pay italian prices... hehehe.

the route is 95% normal road condition. but the last 5% we gonna cut tru sumtin like a jungle reserve. the road consists of uneven tarmac & about 200m of gravel-road.. dats where the adventure part is... will test your plank-balancing skills... khe khe.. i might be hitchin a ride with Zazin, former VARA owner via his motorcar, who is also bringin his wife. I think shouldn't be a problem if u wana tag along.. still got one seat to spare i think... in the meantime, pls come dwn during ad hoc meetups during weekdays.. PM ur handphone number so we can activate you! Ha Ha...

Guys >>

i going to go there with Zazin unless my ride can be serviced on time.. my consumption dropped quite lot when hit reserve.. ard 325km amber lite blink oredi. Normally, blink at 350-360km plus.. ride quite not smooth either.. need to let my mech check wat 'sakit' my bike having now.. feel guilty now whack till 205km/h during the ride to KL/Colmar.. khe khe.. but judging from my mileage, i think itz time oredi ar... full-servicing i suppose...

Yeah bro, have to admit, the stelvio is realy something, shaft driven, adjustable screen, adjustable seat, lightweight lace wheels that run tubeless, amazing dynamics, styling and design.

Its true italian, Amazing indeed and all that for 30k........Phew, Sweat.

Hey bro, might wanna get the mechanics to check out your fuel line and stuff on your bike. Carb settings as well, Maybe a service of the carbs? I mean usually, there should not be a problem even after short blasts of 205 kmph.

Its an old bike now so remember the saying made famous by our Mr KC,,, "ITS NOT MEANT TO GO FAST"This upcoming trip to Koh Samui, lets do the suggested 150-160 kmph ATwin suggested. It will help the vara lasts a few more years.

I am sorry to say this dude, but 10k also better buy car mah? 15k also better buy car mah? 20k also better buy car mah? Why you wasting your money and nites sleep ride bike? Isnt it true?

Go sgcarmart find a CIVIC lah, 14k can drive for 4 years. Got aircon, got radio, can install DVD player somemore, can even up your sound system and play sound. Some even come with aftermarket sunroof.

Vara is a brotherhood now, We have come pretty far and have become close in the last 6-8 months. Its a brotherhood of bikers. For ppl to experience Adventure and Bikes. The Guzzi is a hell of a bike, specs are close to the GS for a fraction of the price. I rather you say i like japanese bikes than to say "better buy car".

Sorry bro, just my two cents worth, talking about myself, i love the wind in my face, i love the sun on my skin, no matter how hot. I will ***** but after a drink, i will praise lord for the sun. I love the smells and scents i experience, be it good or bad. I love everything bikes have to offer. I am a Biker, thats me, thats us, We are the reason why there is a singapore bike forum.

Not becos we could drive with our money, but cos we choose to RIDE.

No offence, change that mentality. Peace.

ADVENTURE!!!!
